Chapter 239 Discovering the Secret

Chapter 239 Discovering the Secret

Xiang Yun glanced at the master bedroom. The door to the master bedroom was closed, and Xu Songning should be combing her hair in the bathroom. She couldn't hear any movement from the living room.

"Song Ning may be a little afraid of getting married."

Ms. Xu was slightly surprised, but she quickly regained her composure and nodded. "She didn't tell you about our family's situation, did she?"

“I haven’t asked either,” Xiang Yun replied.

Ms. Xu chuckled and patted the back of his hand. "You're a good boy. I'm very relieved to entrust Songning to you. Since she hasn't mentioned it, let me talk to you about it."

"As soon as you said she was scared, I knew why. It all started with my failed marriage with her father."

Her father and I fell in love at first sight in college and naturally got married.

I used to be very busy with work, and her father had a lot of free time but didn't like taking care of the children, so he always neglected her. She probably realized the unreliability of this marriage even earlier than I did.

"The year she took the college entrance exam, I fell seriously ill. She was terrified of losing me, and at the same time, her irresponsible father was of no help whatsoever."

After I recovered from my illness, I promptly got a divorce. Less than a year later, her father remarried. His careless attitude towards marriage was truly heartbreaking.

Perhaps I should have divorced sooner; it might have been better for Songning, preventing her from becoming disillusioned with the marriage.

“Auntie, this isn’t your fault. Everyone has the right to start their life anew, and no matter when, don’t doubt your decision. Songning’s disappointment stems from her irresponsible father, not from you,” Xiang Yun comforted her.

Ms. Xu was heartbroken. "Before she started dating you, Song Ning was actually reluctant to let me introduce her to people. Maybe she hadn't resolved her inner conflict and trapped herself in it."

Xiao Xiang, what I'm about to say might be a little selfish, but I hope you can wait for Song Ning. Song Ning likes you very much, and I also hope that you two can be together forever, supporting each other for a lifetime.

Xiang Yun nodded, his resolve never wavering. He loved Xu Songning, and regardless of whether she moved on to the next stage with him, he would choose to stay by her side. He knew that Xu Songning loved him in the same way; they couldn't live without each other and would never leave.

"Auntie, don't worry, I've never thought about giving up on this relationship."

Ms. Xu finally felt relieved. In this life, the kind of people you meet depends entirely on luck.

Some people meet the right person at first sight, some only realize halfway through that the other person isn't right for them, and some endure the stones on the soles of their shoes and keep going down the wrong path.

Ms. Xu only hopes that her daughter will not trap herself in her parents' failed marriage. She deserves better, and a better person is right in front of her.

After returning to China, Ms. Xu did not disturb her two children's lives. She had her own life to live, and now that she was back in China, she had time to get together with other friends.

Ms. Xu took the key to the house across the street because she didn't want to live in the same house as her child; it would be very inconvenient for them to disturb each other.

Of course, the most urgent task is to meet with Ms. Cui.

The two mothers met at the law firm without informing their children. They had a pleasant conversation and found common ground in many things. When the topic turned to their children's future, the mothers tacitly agreed not to continue the discussion and simply said, "Let them be."

Xu Songning was unaware of all the things that had happened behind the scenes. She was busy with work and life, and before she knew it, the cold wind had swept through and covered Shanghai.

Every passenger was wearing a thick cotton-padded coat, and Xu Songning was also wearing a thick overcoat. A cold wind was blowing outside the airport. She held a hot coffee in her hand and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, where planes were landing one after another.

Winter reminded her of many things that happened last year.

Her meeting with Xiang Yun took place on such a cold winter day.

She took a sip of hot coffee, her eyelashes trembling; it was so cold.

Someone put their arm around her waist, their warm breath enveloping her. "Why were you waiting for me here? Aren't you cold?"

"It's cold." Xu Songning turned around and took Xiang Yun's hand.

Even though the air conditioning in the terminal was on full blast, her hands were still a little cold. Xiang Yun took her hands and rubbed them. "Let's go home."

Winter was too cold, so during their time off, the two of them would stay at home and play two-player games.

Ms. Xu lives in her own house and occasionally goes shopping or plays cards with Ms. Cui. The two have become good friends, and Cui Yuyue is responsible for carrying bags for the two mothers.

"What do you want to eat today?" Xiang Yun put down the game controller, glanced at the weather outside. It wasn't raining, so they could go out and buy some fresh vegetables.

"I want to eat hot pot. Hot pot goes perfectly with winter." Xu Songning nestled on the sofa, manipulating the little figure to jump up and down.

When they got together last time, they bought an electric hot pot cooker and left it at Xu Songning's house. It's a good opportunity to take it out and use it again.

"Okay, I'll go buy the groceries. Find the leftover broth from the last hot pot."

Xiang Yun put on his down jacket and the cashmere gloves that Xu Songning had bought for him.

Xu Songning wandered around the kitchen. "Where do we store the hot pot base?"

"It's in the cabinet, look for it." Xiang Yun said, then closed the door.

Xu Songning started rummaging through the kitchen. She didn't come to the kitchen often and had no idea where things were stored.

After searching the kitchen, she checked the refrigerator, but couldn't find the hot pot base in either place.

She called Xiang Yun, "Brother Yun, I can't find it in the kitchen."

"Didn't find it? I think I moved some of the stuff to the storage cabinet on the balcony last time. Go check it out." It was noisy on Xiang Yun's end, and the supermarket's announcements were very loud, so the two of them could hardly hear each other.

Xu Songning hung up the phone and went to the balcony to search. Sure enough, he found a cardboard box in the storage cabinet, which was full of unopened spices.

She took the cardboard box out, and her gaze suddenly stopped as she was drawn to something deep inside the locker.

Behind the cardboard box, there was a small box hidden.

The dark green, square little box sat there, like Pandora's box, beckoning her to open it.

"Click".

The box was opened, and inside lay a diamond ring shaped like a four-pointed star.

The four-pointed star represents the button that Xiang Yun once had pulled off, and it is also the promise Xiang Yun wants to give her now.

She gently covered her lips, her breathing becoming lighter.

She dared not imagine how Xiang Yun had secretly commissioned this ring all these days, waiting for her silently in a place she didn't know.

To verify her claim, she slipped the ring onto her middle finger; it fit perfectly, it was her size.

The cool ring warmed her heart.

Xiang Yun knew how she felt. He knew she was afraid to move to the next stage, and he knew her every hint that she didn't want to propose. So he kept waiting for her.

A series of hurried footsteps came from outside the door, and Xu Songning immediately realized that Xiang Yun had returned.
