Chapter 63 Driving Away the "Peach Blossoms"
Xu Songning turned around, and a Border Collie came over first, sniffed her trouser leg, and after confirming her scent, happily raised its paw.
Xiang Yun pulled her behind him, placing her between the Border Collie and her, his brows furrowing.
"snowflake?"
Xu Songning didn't remember the girl walking the dog in front of her very clearly, but she did remember the Border Collie.
He once pounced on her, almost causing her to strain her back.
"It's snowflakes," the girl replied with a smile, her gaze falling on Xiang Yun with a hint of shyness. "Are you picking up a package? Cat litter? Do you have that cat?"
“Yes, we haven’t found an owner yet, and we don’t want it to be a stray, so we decided to keep it for a while. We’ve already found it a home. If you have any information about its owner, you can let me know,” Xu Songning said.
The girl shook her head. "We haven't heard from it. Judging from its leg injury, it might have been abused. It's lucky to have met you all. By the way, who's taking care of the cat now?"
The scrutinizing gaze shifted from Xiang Yun to Xu Songning, but ultimately, it lingered on Xiang Yun with reluctance.
How could Xu Songning not understand a girl's yearning for love? Judging from her age, she was probably only in her early twenties. For many people, a man with such an outstanding appearance as Xiang Yun was simply irresistible, and the same was true for Xu Songning. After all, wasn't it his good looks that attracted her in the first place?
“We raised them together.” Xu Songning smiled and took Xiang Yun’s arm.
Xiang Yun turned his head to look at her, and she looked up at him with a smile, without a trace of panic.
"Oh, I see, haha." The girl chuckled awkwardly, her face pale. She pulled Snowflake along and walked in the opposite direction. "I'm going to walk the dog now. Goodbye."
"Goodbye." Xu Songning waved.
As Xu Songning watched the girl leave, he naturally let go of her hand, but Xiang Yun grabbed it.
The two hands were at different temperatures, one slightly cool and the other warm, and the place where they clasped felt as if it were burning.
"Brother Yun, you..."
"Your hands are cold."
Xiang Yun released her hand without mentioning why he had grabbed her hand earlier or why she had suddenly taken his arm.
“It’s like this all year round, maybe I’m just prone to feeling cold,” Xu Songning said, rubbing his palms together in an attempt to raise their temperature, but to little avail.
As the two walked back, Xiang Yun didn't ask why, which made Xu Songning uncomfortable. How could Xiang Yun be so calm? His tolerance for her overstepping boundaries was also increasing.
"Brother Yun, why don't you ask me why I held your arm just now? You... you're not mad at me? I chased away your suitors." Xu Songning couldn't help but ask.
Xiang Yun glanced at her and said calmly, "I know you want the owner of the snowflake to back down."
Xu Songning laughed frankly, "To be honest, if she were a bit older, I wouldn't stop her. I just think that girl in her early twenties isn't suitable for you. At such a good age, it would be so much better to find a boy around your age to date. If there's too much of an age gap, you'll find that you don't share many ideas and have different life goals. It would just be a waste of time."
Xiang Yun chuckled and pressed the elevator button. "If I didn't know you meant no harm, I would have thought you were saying I'm old."
“Brother Yun, where are you old? That’s not what I meant, don’t misunderstand. Among captains, you’re considered quite young, young and promising.” Xu Songning winked.
Xiang Yun was pleased with himself and shook his head with a smile, dutifully carrying the cat litter into the house for her.
When I entered the house, Sanhua was already asleep, lying comfortably in her cat bed with her cute little face resting on her paws, without a trace of worry.
The litter box has been washed clean and placed next to the cat tree, with a layer of clean cat litter sprinkled on it.
Xu Songning then placed clean water and cat food in the bowl before clapping his hands in satisfaction.
When she turned around, Xiang Yun was cleaning up the trash in the house, sealing the cat litter and cat food and placing them in a conspicuous spot.
"Alright, feel free to contact me if you have any questions." Xiang Yun tapped his watch; it was getting late, almost eleven o'clock after being busy for so long.
"Okay, you should go back and rest." Xu Songning saw him to the door. Actually, it was such a short distance, there was no need to see him off, but she followed him and didn't close the door until Xiang Yun closed it.
Her mother sent her a message saying she wouldn't be coming home tonight and was resting at a friend's house. She didn't see it until she washed her hands and replied to her mother.
The living room had already been tidied up by Xiang Yun, so there was almost nothing left for her to clean. She washed herself, tucked herself into the blankets, and was already drowsy.
morning.
A sound of a cat scratching at the door woke Xu Songning up, accompanied by a few meows.
Xu Songning buried her head in the blanket, covered her ears, and refused to open her eyes.
My eyes were so sleepy, they looked like they were glued shut.
But the scratching at the door didn't stop for a second, and the meows grew more and more shrill. Xu Songning's sleepiness vanished. Could something have happened to Sanhua? She had no choice but to pull herself out of bed.
"So early in the morning..."
Xu Songning, still grumpy from waking up, opened the door, her sleepy eyes meeting those of Sanhua, who was screaming from the early morning.
Those round eyes were so clear. Sanhua let out a howl, showing no trace of the pitiful look she had when she was locked out. She was all sticky and clingy, which softened her heart.
"Alright, alright, it's not your fault. What are you doing?" Xu Songning squatted down and patted Sanhua's back. Sanhua limped under her hand and walked towards the living room, meowing as she went, signaling the human to follow.
Xu Songning walked into the living room and found that the water she had added last night was almost gone. Xu Songning had deliberately not added too much water, fearing that Sanhua wouldn't use the litter box and would urinate everywhere if she drank too much water.
When she came back after adding water, she glanced into the litter box and saw that there were already several small hard lumps inside. It seemed that the calico cat was a house cat that could use the toilet, but she didn't know why it had been abandoned.
"Good girl."
Xu Songning scooped the cat back up, feeling a little sorry for it, and stroked its chin a few times.
Sanhua buried her head and drank a few sips of water, then lay back down at Xu Songning's feet. The soft cat lay there obediently, and no one could resist touching it. While petting the cat, she took out her phone to take pictures.
First, send it to Ms. Xu: "Mom, look at your little granddaughter."
Then she posted it in her group chat with her best friends, "I have a cat now too."
As the only one in the trio with a cat, Xu Songning was in a very good mood. Zhou Qiao didn't like keeping furry animals and only kept cats virtually on her phone. Lu Xiaomeng liked cats but couldn't keep one herself, so she had already made a promise with her to come and pet the cat!
At seven o'clock, Zhou Qiao didn't respond. Lu Xiaomeng, probably getting ready to go to work, immediately replied to her message.
"Wow! We finally brought her home? She's so cute! Does she have a name?"
Xu Songning happily typed, "Yes, Sanhua."
