Chapter 78 Cooking skills are hard to trust.
"What's wrong?"
Xiang Yun strode to the kitchen doorway, looking at her anxiously.
Xu Songning's face was still showing shock, and his hand, which had just popped out of his pocket, was still trembling slightly.
A mouse!
In her apron pocket!
But her house had never had rats or cockroaches. Thinking about the unreal feeling she had just experienced, she found a clue.
I bought a toy mouse for Sanhua before, but she kept carrying it around and I don't know where she put it. I haven't seen it at home.
It turns out that Sanhua had picked it up and tossed it into her apron pocket!
But the apron was always hanging on the wall, so how did Sanhua manage to throw it in?
A wicked thought crossed Xu Songning's mind. He said, "Brother Yun, I forgot where I put my phone. Can you check inside my apron to see if it's there?"
"Okay." Xiang Yun breathed a sigh of relief, thinking something had happened to her.
Xu Songning stood in front of the pot, stirring the beef, showing no intention of turning around.
Xiang Yun stood beside her, his hand slipping under her arm. The pocket in the middle of her apron was a large, open pocket, quite deep, so that you couldn't see what was inside unless you opened it.
He intently reached in to touch his phone.
His fingers touched something furry; the fur was stiff, and the prickly whiskers pricked the back of his hand.
Xu Songning suddenly grabbed his hand through the pocket.
"Squeak!"
His hand was squeezed, pressed completely against a strange, furry thing, not like a living creature, devoid of any warmth. His thumb, through two layers of fabric, rested on her flat stomach, his fingers just there, motionless.
Their current posture resembled Xiang Yun embracing her from behind.
"Should I make a sound in response?" Xiang Yun chuckled softly.
"Aren't you scared?" Xu Songning was greatly disappointed and let go of her hand.
Xiang Yun pinched the thing's tail and pulled it out of his pocket.
A lifelike mouse hung upside down between his fingers, its two innocent, bean-like eyes staring at the two of them, its body swaying back and forth in the air.
The mouse is relatively small, and its light brown fur makes it look more like a hamster, not as scary as a real mouse. Its limbs feel just like a real mouse, making it difficult to tell the difference at first touch.
This must be the thing that scared Xu Songning earlier, and now she's using it to scare herself again.
“Every pilot training program is more terrifying than this.” Xiang Yun held the mouse in his palm, pinched its belly, and it made a squeaking sound. He praised, “The craftsmanship is not bad.”
"Alright, alright, I know you pilots are amazing. Amazing pilot, help Sister Xu chop some scallions, stop playing with those things, I'll never buy these kinds of realistic toys again, why is Sanhua leaving her toys lying around?" Xu Songning handed him a bunch of scallions.
"Sanhua added it?"
“Actually, I suspect that Ms. Xu simply threw the toys into the bib while tidying up,” Xu Songning sighed.
Xiang Yun tossed the mouse to Sanhua, then skillfully took out a vegetable washing basin and put the scallions in to rinse.
Sanhua followed in carrying a mouse in her mouth, her cute round face looking adorably at the busy humans.
Xiang Yun nudged it with his foot, "Go out and play."
Sanhua couldn't understand, and with the mouse in her mouth, she tried to nudge Xu Songning's bare calves.
"Don't go to your mother's side." Xiang Yun's hands were wet, but he didn't care about anything else and scooped up Sanhua.
Xiang Yun tossed Sanhua back into its cat bed and stroked its fur against the grain with his wet hands. Now Sanhua was busy grooming itself.
"Meow!" The calico grumbled as it licked its own fur, oblivious to the busy humans.
Busy Chef Xu finally served up his masterpiece – stir-fried braised beef with cilantro.
Ms. Xu's braised beef was very fragrant. She only needed to sprinkle a couple of sprigs of cilantro before it was ready to serve. Xu Songning scooped out the last two slices from the pot, washed her hands, and took a bite with her fingers.
It's bursting with the flavor of braised meat, a truly authentic Ms. Xu's style.
"Brother Yun, try some."
Xu Songning picked up another piece and held it to Xiang Yun's lips.
He was washing scallions, and since his hands were not free, he used her hand to hold the beef in his mouth.
"How is it? Is it delicious?" Xu Songning asked.
Xiang Yun expressed his approval, "Delicious! Chef Xu's skills have improved."
"Haha, actually it was my mom who made the braised beef. Sister Xu's cooking skills are probably unlikely to improve anytime soon."
After finishing the dish, she poured in some oil, cracked in a few eggs, and instructed Xiang Yun to cut the scallions into the desired length.
Xiang Yun watched her cook, and she was clearly working very hard, so how could the food not taste good? Ah, it wasn't that it was bad, it was somewhere between delicious and bad.
She sprinkled a few grains of salt on the pan, added a little too much soy sauce, and then prepared to take it off the heat.
Xiang Yun seemed to have found the problem, but his cooking skills were equally poor, not good enough to instruct Xu Songning, and he dared not speak up easily.
"I'll also stir-fry some blanched lettuce."
Xu Songning looked at him in surprise, not wanting to discourage him, after all, he had made a dark mess last time. "Ah, okay."
Faced with Xu Songning's distrust, Xiang Yun was helpless.
Both of them are trustworthy when it comes to directing and flying airplanes, but when it comes to cooking, neither of them can trust the other at all.
After spending these days together, they are no longer as reserved as they were the first time they cooked at her house.
There was only one apron. When Xu Songning took it off, it was still warm from her touch. It was a little small for Xiang Yun, but she could barely put it on, which made her even more adorable.
Xu Songning sat cross-legged in the living room, facing the kitchen door, watching Captain Xiang cook.
The man rolls up his sleeves, his back is always ramrod straight, and his posture is elegant. The way he stands solemnly washing vegetables is captivating.
Those hands, meant for gripping airplane control sticks and pressing countless precision instruments, are now washing her hands and cooking for her.
Xu Songning thought to himself, if he makes another dark, messy thing, he'll just comfort him and force himself to eat a bite.
The moment Xu Songning saw Xiang Yun, the depression in his heart lessened considerably.
She picked up her phone and saw the notification that the group admin had rejected her friend request.
Could it be that the group owner knows Song Qing'an? Did Song Qing'an inform him beforehand not to include him in the friend list?
She had no choice but to message Lu Xiaomeng, "Xiaomeng, the group admin refused to add me."
Lu Xiaomeng had been lurking in the group. There were hundreds of people in the group joking around, and the news about Xu Songning was quickly overshadowed. She clicked on the group owner's message history and found that the group owner was a lurker who rarely spoke.
"Sister Xu, I don't have him as a friend either. Let me try adding him."
If the group admin doesn't let her in, Xu Songning will have to use someone else's account to clarify. Even in the small group "Blue Sky Guide," people are asking about this, which shows that gossip in the circle can spread far and wide in less than half a day.
Xiang Yun seems unaware of this. He doesn't fly to East China before, so he probably doesn't know about the civil aviation network in East China.
Xu Songning frowned, feeling irritated. Song Qing'an really knew how to stir up trouble! He could even come up with something as unethical as spreading rumors.
Soon, Lu Xiaomeng sent a message, accompanied by a crying emoji.
"Sister Xu, the group admin rejected me too."
