Chapter 98 You're So Bad
Xu Songning wondered, "Could it be that something bad happened?"
Xiang Yun glanced around, then drank his tea and looked down at his phone.
Gu Xingcai, who was supposed to liven up the atmosphere at the dinner table, fell silent upon hearing her question, turning the conversation into a private one between her and Luo Xiao.
"Haha, of course, I'm just concerned about my colleagues." Xu Songning chuckled dryly. He had only meant to find a topic to talk about, but his good intentions backfired, and he ended up touching on someone's sore spot.
Luo Xiao smiled and shook his head. "Thank you for your kindness, but it's alright for you to ask. My brother is just recuperating in China. He already has his own plans. Even if he can't fly, he won't be defeated by reality."
“Yes, your brother is an optimistic person, so don’t worry about him too much. Since he’s in China, I’ll visit him often.” Gu Xing patted Luo Xiao on the shoulder.
Xu Songning then relaxed. "Yes, there is never just one road to Rome. As long as you cheer up and take other paths, you can still achieve your goals."
"Yes, thank you for your comfort," Luo Xiao said.
"Excuse me, the food is ready!"
The boss's son interrupted their conversation, striding in carrying a rectangular wooden tray.
The aroma of chicken filled the private room, whetting everyone's appetite.
Xu Songning and Xiang Yun arrived late and sat near the door.
The young owner brought in the dishes and stood between the two of them, arranging them as he spoke. "The chicken soup is made from home-raised chickens; the meat is incredibly tender. You two eat first, the other dishes will be here shortly."
Xiang Yun watched as the chicken soup was placed on the table, the surface swaying precariously, yet not a single drop spilled. But if even a single drop had gotten on her, her skin would have been scalded and turned red.
"Let's change seats." Xiang Yun stood up, facing Xu Songning, his direction clear.
"Huh?" Xu Songning looked at him in confusion. What's wrong?
"The vegetables pass through your area," Xiang Yun explained.
"Why don't you come and sit here, Miss Xu? It's a bit dangerous for anyone to sit there," Luo Xiao suggested.
There happened to be an empty seat next to Luo Xiao. If Xu Songning sat there, the distance between him and Xiang Yun would increase by two body lengths, while he would be sitting right next to Luo Xiao.
His suggestion sounded impeccable. If Xiang Yun insisted on changing seats, or if Xu Songning disagreed, it would seem like the two of them were being a bit deliberate. Sitting next to him was indeed the best option.
Seeing that the group was frozen in place, Gu Xing quickly spoke up, "That spot isn't good! Miss Xu is wearing white clothes, and it'll get dirty later. Luo Xiao, why don't you move over a bit, and the rest of you can move over here."
"But..." Luo Xiao wanted to say something, but Gu Xing had already moved his chair over and looked at him with a smile, "Okay, squeeze in."
Luo Xiao then pulled away a chair, moved over himself, and Gu Xing sat down next to him.
The chair was already quite large, so four people sitting near the round table wouldn't feel cramped, but it looked a bit awkward, as if the table had been enclosed in a semi-circle.
Xiang Yun moved the chairs for the two of them, sat down next to Gu Xing, and gestured for Xu Songning to sit next to him.
"Thank you, Brother Yun." Xu Songning blinked.
Brother Yun, Captain Luo, Captain Gu, there are still some differences, right?
Xiang Yun felt inexplicably better.
Now, Gu Xing started talking, becoming the conversation lubricant for the group. He mainly talked with Luo Xiao and Xu Songning, while Xiang Yun was occasionally mentioned and would reply a few words.
Xiang Yun picked up a soup ladle, scooped a bowl full of chicken soup, topped it with a chicken leg, and placed it in front of Xu Songning under Gu Xing's intense gaze, which he was intentionally or unintentionally looking over.
"Brother Yun, I want to eat chicken and drink chicken soup too, please help me." Gu Xing grinned, showing his big teeth, and stretched out his bowl.
Xiang Yun ignored his request, "Are your arms short?"
Gu Xing: "?"
"If your arms aren't too short, you should be able to scoop up the chicken soup." Xiang Yun slowly took a sip of tea. None of the three captains ordered alcohol.
It is said that this tea is grown by the owner himself, and it is indeed more fragrant than tea from other places.
Xiang, Xu, and Gu were all quite close to the chicken soup, while Luo Xiao was relatively far away.
Upon hearing this, Luo Xiao stood up to ladle out the soup, saying, "Brother Gu, let me help you."
"Hey, see that? That's what a gentleman is! Xiang Yun, you're no good. You'll need ten more years to become like that. No, you'll never become a gentleman. You're too wicked." Gu Xing shook his finger, looking accusatory.
Luo Xiao served soup to himself and Gu Xing. When he saw the empty bowl in front of Xiang Yun, he made a gesture to reach out. Xiang Yun covered the bowl and shook his head.
“Captain Luo, please sit down and rest. Brother Yun doesn’t like drinking soup before meals. As for Captain Gu, he’s always making a fuss. If you don’t serve him soup, he’ll happily serve himself later,” Xu Songning said.
Gu Xing sighed, "Miss Xu, your bias is quite obvious. Do you remember who helped you get in touch with Luo Xiao?"
"Also, why is Xiang Yun called Brother Yun? Aren't we all your brothers in terms of age?"
Xu Songning lowered his head and ate his chicken leg, pretending not to hear.
"Alright, eat your food, stop talking so much nonsense." Xiang Yun said rudely, reaching into the pot with his chopsticks and picking up a chicken's head.
He put it in Gu Xing's bowl, "Eat more, it'll help you recover."
"It's not just one person who's siding with outsiders," Gu Xing sighed.
Luo Xiao smiled and silently drank his soup. He didn't like chicken, so he only served himself half a bowl of soup.
When the young owner came in to deliver vegetables again, he was surprised by their semi-enclosed seating arrangement. "Bosses, isn't it cramped sitting like this?"
"No, no, we like to talk like this. We can hear each other very clearly." Gu Xing raised his eyebrows, looking smug and extremely satisfied with his arrangement.
The young owner didn't understand their tastes. Seeing the lady sitting on the far side, he didn't say anything. Let the men squeeze in if they want; he'd seen it all before. He calmly put the dishes down.
"Stir-fried water spinach, spiced pork trotters, spicy shrimp, lamb skewers, and stir-fried beef with cilantro. All the dishes are served. Please call me if you need anything else."
The young boss slipped away as fast as he could.
Gu Xing and Luo Xiao chatted about international flight destinations and salaries. Qatar Airways truly lived up to its reputation as a luxury airline, making even Xu Songning, an air traffic controller, extremely envious.
Wearing gloves, Xiang Yun silently peeled shrimp. He peeled the shrimp quickly, his fingers flying, and the shrimp meat was peeled off intact and placed on the plate in front of him.
While the other two weren't paying attention, Xiang Yun pushed the plate towards Xu Songning's position.
"Is this shrimp for me?" Xu Songning asked deliberately.
"Don't let Gu Xing see this, or he'll try to take it from you," Xiang Yun whispered.
Xu Songning quietly took away half of the shrimp, scooped out the last big chicken leg from the chicken soup, and put it into Xiang Yun's bowl.
"Hey, someone seems to be making some underhanded moves." Gu Xing had incredibly sharp eyes and immediately caught sight of the two secretly "colluding" out of the corner of his eye.
They were peeling shrimp and adding chicken legs.
He really didn't understand. When he asked Xiang Yun about the 747 airplane model before, Xiang Yun didn't give him a clear answer. What exactly was the relationship between the two of them?
