Chapter 479 Bronze "David"

"David" occupies the most important position in Michelangelo's life, and it is also the fundamental reason why he became one of the "Three Masters of the Post-Renaissance". It is conceivable how high the artistic value of this sculpture is.

Perhaps the value of "David" is not as high as "Venus de Milo", the treasure of the Louvre Museum in Paris, but it is definitely not lower. Both are comparable in terms of artistic quality and value.

How much does "Venus de Milo" cost?

I'm afraid no one knows this. It's like asking how much "Mona Lisa's Smile" costs. There is no definite answer at all. The only answer is - priceless.

The statue that appeared before my eyes was a statue of David, a dark blue statue of David.

This is certainly not the white marble David statue housed in the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, nor is it the two replicas standing in the center of Piazzale Michelangelo and in front of the Florence City Government. This is a bronze David sculpture.

The authentic "David" statue is nearly four meters tall and weighs six tons, but the bronze statue in front of us is only about 15 meters tall. Except for the wrong color and much smaller size, it is no different from the real "David" statue in every other aspect.

At first, Yang Jing thought that this sculpture was a replica. However, after he used his identification skills to authenticate it, he was overjoyed to learn that this bronze "David" sculpture was actually also created by Michelangelo!

As long as Yang Jing is willing, he can use the identification skill to identify the items that he has stored in the storage space without touching the items.

But he really never expected that this bronze sculpture was not a replica, but was actually created by Michelangelo. This surprise came so unexpectedly!

If you hadn't seen it with your own eyes, I'm afraid no one would have thought that Michelangelo would actually create such a bronze "David" sculpture? Moreover, there is no record in history of Michelangelo making a bronze "David" sculpture. If Yang Jing didn't know that the identification skills could not be wrong, even he would not dare to believe that this bronze "David" was made by Michelangelo.

However, if you think about it, it is inevitable that David is definitely Michelangelo's masterpiece in every aspect, even though Michelangelo was only 26 years old when he created this sculpture. But who can deny the excellence of David?

How could Michelangelo not like such a masterpiece?

You should know that Michelangelo had carefully made a model of the David before he carved it. After the statue was completed, the model was carefully kept by Michelangelo. If he didn't like the sculpture very much, how could he have kept the model of David?

However, after "David" was created, it belonged to Florence and not to him personally, so Michelangelo could only collect the model of "David".

Since he even treasured the model of David, why couldn't Michelangelo make a bronze David himself? It is definitely possible.

Michelangelo was not only good at stone sculpture, he was also very good at bronze sculpture.

In 2015, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, England, exhibited a pair of bronze sculptures, which depicted two handsome and masculine men majestically riding on ferocious leopards.

This pair of bronze statues was collected by a British collector and caused a sensation as soon as they were exhibited.

A Swiss research institute conducted further research using neutron scanning and determined that the bronze sculpture was made in the early 16th century. Peter Abraham, professor of clinical anatomy at the University of Warwick in the UK, suggested that every detail of the sculpture is standard Michelangelo - from the strong abdominal muscles to the navel, which is exactly the same as the marble sculpture "David".

In addition, Michelangelo's paintings of human figures in the Sistine Chapel also bear a strong resemblance to the sculptures. Ultimately, the pair of bronze sculptures were proven to have been created by Michelangelo between 1506 and 1508, when the artist was 30 years old and hungry for success.

This pair of bronze sculptures is also recognized as the only pair of Michelangelo's bronze sculptures remaining in the world so far.

But are those bronze sculptures really the only bronze sculptures of Michelangelo left in the world? If they are the only ones left, then what is this bronze sculpture in front of us?

And just now, through the appraisal of identification skills, it was found that this bronze "David" sculpture was created by Michelangelo in 1605 and completed in 1606. Judging from this time, the creation of the pair of bronze leopard-riding warriors was started only after the creation of the bronze "David".

Yang Jing had no doubt that once this bronze "David" sculpture was unveiled, the sensation it would cause would definitely not be comparable to that of the pair of men riding leopards. After all, this was a bronze "David"!

The marble sculpture of David is well known, but have you heard of the bronze David, also created by Michelangelo? Have you seen it?

ps: I bow to thank "孤独的垌心" for the reward of 100.
