Chapter 64
Last month, a live house called Starry opened less than 5 kilometers from Central Park. As the only large live house in the surrounding area, it invited many well-known domestic and international DJs to perform there, and also hired many internet celebrities to promote it on various platforms. As a result, Starry became an instant hit. What was even more unexpected was that many people from the city came to this live house to dance and watch performances on weekend nights, causing traffic jams in the usually quiet area around Central Park, where even traffic police rarely appear.
"Have you guys been to Starry?" Cheng Shi asked Sun Pengfei and Su Ningna at their weekend card game game. "Was it fun? Why are there so many people here?"
However, Huang Ruoyu preemptively answered before Sun Pengfei and Su Ningna could, "They definitely haven't been there. That place is too chaotic; how could it possibly be fun?"
Upon hearing Huang Ruoyu's words, Sun Pengfei and Su Ningna exchanged glances and gave slightly awkward smiles. In fact, they were both prepared to answer either "fun" or "not fun"—it depended on which answer Cheng Shi and Huang Ruoyu expected. Actually, the older couple preferred to let the younger couple's likes and dislikes dictate their decisions regarding entertainment.
“No, no, I think they’ll find it fun,” Chengshi insisted. “I think they’ll like it there. My colleague Eddie went last week and said it was pretty good. There’s no minimum spend for the booths, and the drinks aren’t expensive. But liking it requires a special…taste, because Starry’s selling point is…it’s so chaotic, that’s what makes it interesting.”
So the two couples decided to visit Starry the following evening to see just how chaotic it could get.
The next evening, after dinner, Huang Ruoyu invited a part-time housekeeper to her home to help take care of Cheng Yushan and Cheng Yusi. After getting ready, before 8:30, she and Cheng Shi drove to pick up Sun Pengfei and Su Ningna and headed to Starry, which is less than 5 kilometers from Central Park.
When they arrived at Starry, it was still early, so the place wasn't too chaotic. They ordered a bottle of liquor, some snacks, and a few glasses of Starry's own craft beer, chatting and listening to music. But soon Starry came alive, and couples joined the revelers on the chaotic dance floor, while the music on stage became much more energetic.
However, the two couples seemed to have no stamina compared to the young people on the dance floor. They would return to their seats after dancing for a short while, and then sit quietly drinking to the lively music, without even chatting—after all, it was impossible to have a conversation in such deafening music.
The atmosphere that night was somewhat awkward, but Cheng Shi felt that the tension and pressure from work and relationships that had been building up for so long had finally vanished. Although Huang Ruoyu was still as aloof and unfathomable as ever, seemingly detached from their little circle of four, the difference was that Cheng Shi didn't want to dwell on those trivial matters anymore. He was no longer willing to try to make Huang Ruoyu happy by making self-deprecating jokes to elicit a smile from her, nor would he feign liveliness and chatter to ease Huang Ruoyu's arrogance and rudeness towards Sun Pengfei and Su Ningna.
Whatever.
As Cheng Shi thought this, he couldn't help but glance coldly at Huang Ruoyu, who was sitting next to him drinking. She still held her swan-like neck ramrod straight, like a drowsy queen sitting among bored commoners. Wasn't that unapproachable air arrogant and disdainful enough? Who did she think she was? Liu Shishi? The problem is, Liu Shishi's neck is being ridiculed now!
So tonight, Cheng Shi sat quietly yet nonchalantly in his booth, tapping one hand to the rhythm of the music while casually glancing at the swaying bodies on the dance floor. He was simply being himself, no longer wanting to deliberately create an atmosphere.
Ha, Cheng Shi thought: My wife's unhappy? How disappointing! But that's her problem; I have my own problems to deal with. She's pregnant and still drinking? Let her drink if she wants to. Anyway, she's not showing, and no one can tell how many months pregnant she is, so no one can accuse him, Cheng Shi, of indulging her recklessness. Besides, shouldn't she be in charge of her own body?
Narumi's idea came cleanly and decisively, without confusion or guilt, but rather made him feel relaxed and happy. Spending another night with Candy had restored Narumi's self-esteem, so he was no longer ashamed to see his reflection in the mirror. The face in the mirror was no longer that of a self-pitying little boy, nor an anxious husband. The face that appeared in the mirror now was mature, composed, and serene—the face of a deep man carrying important matters in his heart. Narumi preferred himself this way.
However, Cheng Shi also knew that he would soon end his affair with Candy with ease, because he had already gotten what he wanted. But he also knew that before it ended, he should savor the emotions and changes this relationship had brought him. Just like right now, he was enjoying it. He was enjoying the DJ's wonderful performance on stage, enjoying the dancing bodies on the dance floor, indulging himself in reminiscing about Candy's beautiful buttocks and rose-like lips, reliving those intimate moments.
