Chapter 42 Holding Tight
"Uncle, is that your car?"
"It's now self-driving."
What's the next step?
"You'll find out soon enough."
Su Xi then noticed that the man had a hiking backpack on his back.
Feng Jue took out a protective vest and, with the woman's cooperation, quickly and neatly put it on her, then hastily put one on himself as well.
Then the man pushed open the passenger seat, took out a series of tools from his backpack, and began operating them at Su Xi's feet.
The man looked up and breathed a sigh of relief, only to hear a woman's terrified voice above him, "The steering wheel seems to be malfunctioning too."
As she got closer and closer to the car in front, and the steering wheel and brakes failed at the same time, Su Xi closed her eyes in despair. She honked the horn and glanced at the man in the rearview mirror. Her pupils trembled, but her tone was calm. "Uncle, jump out of the car. Don't worry about me."
"Stop talking nonsense."
When Feng Jinchen called, Su Xi hung up immediately.
"Step on the brake, step on it slowly, and only step on it once. The brakes are not very responsive or stable right now."
"good."
The car was about to rear-end another vehicle, but the man's words gave her courage. Su Xi held her breath and gently stepped on the brakes, and the car indeed slowed down.
The car in front, upon hearing the horn, quickly accelerated and increased the distance.
Su Xi breathed a long sigh of relief.
"Don't step on the brakes unless absolutely necessary. Let me check the steering wheel."
"good."
The phone rang again; it was Feng Jinchen again. Su Xi immediately blocked him.
When the phone went unanswered or even blocked, Feng Jinchen's handsome face turned green with rage, a storm brewing on his cheeks.
Feng Jue quickly operated the tools for a while, then finally put them down and slowly exhaled a breath of stale air.
Su Xi glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and was shocked to find a bloodstain on the man's cheek, a cut on his wrist bone that she couldn't tell where it was from, and the screen of the expensive watch on his wrist was shattered.
Her heart skipped a beat, and the inexplicable emotions welling up inside her were stronger than ever before.
"Are you done?"
"That's half done. Hand the steering wheel to me, I'll drive." Feng Jue gripped the steering wheel, and Su Xi slipped out of his arms. The two worked together seamlessly and smoothly handed over the driver's seat.
The brake pads and steering wheel are only temporarily connected; it's good if they can perform at half their capacity. You need excellent skills to operate them.
Moreover, whether the car can stop smoothly in the end also depends on some luck.
The man carefully maneuvered the car, his deep, captivating eyes fixed on the road ahead. His voice was clear yet serious, "Listen to me later, I might make you jump out of the car. Now I'll teach you some techniques for avoiding collisions when jumping out of a moving vehicle..."
"No need." Su Xi straightened her back, her voice as serious and cold as the man's just now, "And don't waste your breath."
For a moment, the man was stunned, his eyes rippling as if a stone had been thrown into a deep pool.
After the ripples subsided, his dark eyes grew even deeper, and his handsome face became increasingly cold and solemn. "If things don't go well, you can jump out of the car, and then I can jump out too."
Why can't they jump at the same time?
"I think you're too slow."
"Uncle, I'm not a three-year-old. If you don't jump, I won't jump; if you jump, I'll jump."
Watching the ground recede into the distance, Su Xi unconsciously placed her hands on her stomach. Even with the protective vest, she would still be injured to some extent, and she would definitely lose the baby.
If she loses the baby, she might not even have the courage to live. Her uncle was dragged into this for no reason; he is the most innocent one.
"Uncle, let me drive."
Feng Jue gave her a deep look, his dark eyes softening for the first time, his deep voice carrying a seductive yet soul-soothing quality, "Sit still, trust me."
The car had already left the main road, and ahead was a wide dirt road. The dirt road was straight, and Su Xi, with her good eyesight, could see a cliff in the distance.
"Uncle," the woman whispered, her breathing becoming heavier with tension.
"I know. We're about to stop. Sit tight, this is our chance."
Unable to reach Su Xi by phone, Feng Jinchen called Feng Jue without much thought. A man's intuition is often accurate; his grip on the phone tightened.
In such a thrilling moment, Feng Jinchen seemed to be haunting her. Not wanting to distract her uncle, Su Xi took his phone to hang up, but accidentally answered it.
The tires seemed to have hit a rock, and the car lurched.
Su Xi swayed, involuntarily letting out a gasp, "Ah!"
The man opposite him was struck dumb, and his phone fell to the ground with a thud.
Feng Jinchen quickly made a phone call, "I need to know where Su Xi and Feng Jue are within ten minutes."
After settling in, Su Xi hung up the phone and gripped the handrails tightly. Watching the cliff draw ever closer, she bit her lower lip hard.
The man driving had eyes as black as obsidian, his expression focused intently on the road ahead, unfazed even by a collapsing mountain before him, not even raising an eyebrow. If there were a blade of grass, he would surely be leisurely munching on it.
Between life and death, couldn't she be willful just this once? Su Xi simply looked at the man's profile, scrutinizing him closely and sketching him in her mind.
A smile unconsciously crept onto her lips as her gaze slowly slid from the man's eyebrows to his high nose, thin lips, firm jawline, and sexy Adam's apple... She looked him up and down before finally fixing her gaze on his eyes.
His eyes were bright and deep, capable of captivating a person with just one glance, enticing them to explore their secrets.
The car jolted suddenly and seemed to come to a stop.
Overjoyed, Su Xi tried to look ahead, but the man's deep eyes met hers, unconsciously drawing her gaze back.
Feng Jue said nothing, and as he leaned in, he unfastened the safety buckle.
His thin lips almost brushed against Su Xi's earlobe as he quickly unfastened the woman's safety buckle and pushed open the door.
Before Su Xi could react, the man pulled her into his arms. A slight dizziness, like floating on clouds, washed over her as the man jumped out of the car and landed on the grass.
As she swayed, Su Xi instinctively wrapped her arms around the man's neck. Following his gaze, her pupils dilated violently.
Her SUV, with its front end already over the cliff, was bouncing up and down. The next second, the front end plunged down, and the entire vehicle rolled off the cliff, accompanied by a series of violent impacts.
Su Xi's heart pounded, and she unconsciously hugged the man's neck even tighter.
The heat from the man's neck traveled through her wrists, and Su Xi snapped back to her senses. She looked up and met the man's eyes, and her body trembled slightly.
Feng Jue put Su Xi down and slowly helped her sit up. "How are you? Are you alright?"
"No," Su Xi's gaze was fixed on the man's face and the wristwatch on his left hand. The color of the blood made the cold man look somewhat alluring.
"Uncle, you're injured."
"It's just a minor injury." The man's expression was indifferent, and Su Xi felt even more guilty.
The ambulance arrived quickly. The ground was uneven, and Su Xi stumbled. The man grabbed her wrist and then lifted her up in his arms.
Meeting the man's unquestionable gaze, Su Xi swallowed back the words she was about to say.
As soon as Feng Jinchen got out of the car, he saw his wife being held in his brother-in-law's arms.
He took a deep breath, his expression icy as he stepped forward, extending his hand, his voice filled with barely suppressed anger, "Uncle, let me hug you."
Upon seeing Feng Jinchen, Feng Jue slowly narrowed his eyes.
