Chapter 523 But I've Fallen in Love with You, Shen Li
Yang Yi curled his lips into a smile. "Chen Li, we've been at odds for a long time."
Shen Li: ...
She was speechless, so she simply turned her head away and ignored him.
After the car came to a stop, Shen Li didn't wait for him. She opened the car door, got out, and quickly walked into the brightly lit mansion.
Yang Yi followed behind her, leading her upstairs to the second floor and pushing open a door next to the master bedroom.
"You'll stay in this room."
The room was large, decorated in a minimalist black, white and gray color scheme, and featured a spacious and soft king-size bed.
"Okay." She nodded, wanting to end the conversation with him as soon as possible.
He added, "If you're scared, I can stay with you."
Blatant flirting.
She glanced at him expressionlessly, ignored him, and closed the door.
It was late at night, but Chen Li was wide awake.
She opened the French windows, walked onto the balcony, and took out a women's cigarette from her bag and lit it.
The evening breeze ruffled her long hair, and the red dot on her fingertip flickered in the night.
She was thinking about many things, recalling everything about them, and wondering what she was, a complete mess.
On the other balcony, Yang Yi leaned against the railing, silently watching her.
Her slender figure appeared particularly lonely in the night wind, and that tiny point of light was her only companion.
He longed to go to her, to hold her in his arms, and to tell her how much he missed her.
But he knew that if he went over there now, it would only make her raise even sharper thorns.
He clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white, and could only watch from afar.
After finishing a cigarette, Shen Li's irritability only increased, and her throat felt dry and tight.
She opened the door and went downstairs to get a glass of water.
There was only a dim wall lamp on in the living room. She groped her way downstairs, and just as she reached the corner of the stairs, she bumped into a warm, hard wall of flesh.
She was startled, and before she could back away, a pair of strong arms hugged her tightly.
"Pear..."
Yang Yi buried his head in the crook of her neck, his voice terribly hoarse.
Shen Li froze, then began to struggle violently.
"Get away!"
But his arm was like an iron band, completely immobile.
He held her even tighter, as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones.
"Lili, I miss you so much. Please come back to me."
"Yang Yi!"
Shen Li's resistance was completely ignited by him, and she yelled at him, her voice trembling with tears.
"It's impossible for us!"
"Just like you and Nan Wan, there's no possibility for us anymore!"
"I shouldn't have messed with you in the first place! I was a fool! I deserve what I got!"
"But on what grounds?"
Her tears flowed freely, and all the pent-up grievances burst forth at that moment.
Why should I be her substitute? Is that fair?
"I have given you everything! My body, my heart, I have given you everything! Now I have nothing left, I have nothing more to give you!"
She cried bitterly, her body trembling violently in his arms, as she screamed out all the bitterness in her heart.
Yang Yi was completely dumbfounded.
A body double? Nanwan?
He held her shoulders, forcing her to look at him.
"Who told you I like Miss Nan?"
Shen Li stared at him with red eyes, her vision blurred by tears.
"If not, would my brother have gone to such lengths to put you by my side in the first place?"
"If you don't like her, why is she the first person you look for when you wake up?"
"Yang Yi, stop pretending! In the end, the one you're thinking about and longing for is her!"
"I'm nothing but a backup plan! A backup plan that can be summoned and dismissed at will!"
"Even a backup plan has dignity!"
Yang Yi finally understood where the root of all her inner conflicts lay.
So it was jealousy.
This realization made his heart both ache and soften.
"Lili, you've misunderstood me." He wanted to reach out and hug her, to wipe away her tears.
She suddenly dodged away, as if avoiding something dirty.
"Yang Yi, it's over for us."
She spoke those words with all her might, each one filled with determination.
“I disagree,” he replied firmly.
"But I don't love you anymore." These words made the air freeze instantly.
Yang Yi stared intently at her, his chest heaving violently. After several seconds, he finally managed to squeeze out a sentence through gritted teeth.
"But I've fallen in love with you, Shen Li."
She was stunned, and even forgot to cry.
Tears still clung to her eyelashes as she stared blankly at him.
What did he say? He said he fell in love with me? How could that be? For the past three years, he'd been as cold as ice. We'd only been intimate twice, and he'd just walked away.
How could he possibly love her?
But his eyes held a seriousness and pleading she had never seen before.
"Lili, don't avoid me, okay?" he said again, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
"Let me take care of you."
Shen Li's heart was pounding wildly, but her reason was screaming at her.
impossible.
She wouldn't let him fool her a third time.
This time, she was determined to extricate herself and never repeat the same mistake.
She shoved him away abruptly and ran upstairs.
The next day, Shen Li got up very early.
She changed into casual clothes, carried a camera and held a mobile phone, and went straight downstairs.
Yang Yi was already sitting at the dining table. When he saw her come down, he pointed to the breakfast on the table.
"Eat before you leave."
She didn't say anything, sat down, picked up the sandwich, mechanically took two bites, drank two sips of milk, and then put the cup down.
He pushed a bowl of steaming hot meat porridge in front of her, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Drink this, or you won't be able to get out of this door."
She picked up the spoon, ate a few bites with little appetite, and then stopped eating.
I'm full.
He looked at the half-bowl of porridge left in the bowl, said nothing, took the bowl, picked up her spoon, and finished the rest in a few gulps.
Shen Li was shocked.
This man, who casually throws away 100 million, can't bear to throw away the half-bowl of porridge she left over.
She was truly impressed.
Yang Yi found the half bowl of porridge particularly fragrant because it was something she had eaten before.
After breakfast, the two arrived at the pier.
The docks in Kangcheng were larger than those in Yancheng, and the air was filled with the salty smell of the sea.
Shen Li took out her camera and started taking pictures of the ships and buildings in the harbor, choosing several different angles.
A bodyguard quickly walked over and respectfully said to Yang Yi, "Brother Yi, the boat is ready."
Yang Yi's gaze fell on Shen Li, who was focused on taking pictures not far away, and he said, "Come on, I'll take you out to sea for a ride."
She said nothing, simply put away her camera in silence, and followed him onto a speedboat.
The speedboat cut through the waves and sped forward.
Shen Li sat on the side of the boat, the sea breeze making her hair dance wildly, but she was too lazy to fix it.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
Three graceful figures leaped up from the azure sea not far away—they were dolphins!
The speedboat was chasing them at a distance that wasn't too close.
She immediately raised her camera and frantically pressed the shutter button on the adorable creatures, finally revealing a long-lost smile on her face.
Just as she leaned forward to take a clearer picture, a large hand suddenly wrapped around her waist and pulled her closer.
"Be careful, if you fall in, you won't be able to get out."
His warm breath brushed against the back of her ear.
Shen Li turned to look at him, her smile instantly freezing. She reached out and forcefully pried open his large hand that was wrapped around her waist.
"I can do it myself."
The moment the words were spoken, the speedboat made a sharp turn, generating a tremendous centrifugal force.
She swayed and, caught off guard, fell straight into his arms.
A soft, warm touch came from the corner of my lips.
She kissed the corner of his lips.
Shen Li was startled.
