Chapter 165 Interlude

The morning sun streamed down the city streets as Jiang Zhi and Shen Qingchen walked hand in hand along the bustling sidewalks. Today was their rare day off, and they had planned to visit a long-awaited exhibition at an art gallery downtown. Jiang Zhi wore a pale blue dress, the hem of which swayed gently with her steps, like a flower blooming in the morning breeze. Shen Qingchen, dressed in a casual suit, looked handsome yet elegant. He held Jiang Zhi's hand tightly, as if afraid she would disappear if he let go.

They were immersed in the joy of seeing those exquisite paintings when suddenly, a dark shadow flashed past them. Before Jiang Zhi could react, the bag on her shoulder was pulled away by a strong force. Jiang Zhi was startled by this sudden change and her body involuntarily leaned forward. Shen Qingchen reacted extremely quickly, almost instantly letting go of Jiang Zhi's hand and chasing after the dark shadow.

The thief was a young man wearing shabby clothes and ran very fast. He skillfully shuttled through the crowd, and from time to time he looked back at Shen Qingchen who was chasing him. Shen Qingchen was filled with anger. He would never let this thief get away like this. Not only would he hurt Jiang Zhi, he couldn't stand someone doing such a thing in front of him. His eyes were full of determination, and his steps became bigger and faster, completely ignoring the strange looks from those around him.

During the chase, the streets became increasingly crowded, with various small vendors setting up shop on the roadside and some passersby strolling around. In order to get away from Shen Qingchen, the thief deliberately ran towards the stalls filled with goods, trying to use obstacles to block Shen Qingchen. As Shen Qingchen chased him, he shouted, "Stop him, he's a thief!" But most of the people around him just looked on in astonishment, and no one really offered a helping hand.

Just as the thief was about to run to the entrance of a narrow alley, Shen Qingchen seized the opportunity and accelerated forward. His hand almost grabbed the corner of the thief's clothes, but the thief dodged sideways into the alley. Shen Qingchen didn't have time to brake, and his body hit the wall next to him. His forehead was scraped and his arm was in great pain, but he didn't care about it. He gritted his teeth and rushed into the alley again.

The alley was dark and damp, filled with a pungent smell. Shen Qingchen saw the thief not far ahead, trying to climb over a low wall. He rushed over with all his strength, and just when one of the thief's legs had already stepped over the wall, Shen Qingchen pounced on him and hugged the thief's leg. The thief struggled hard and tried to kick Shen Qingchen with his feet, but Shen Qingchen held on tightly.

The two of them wrestled on the ground. Although Shen Qingchen was usually pampered, he also burst out with amazing strength for Jiang Zhi's bag. However, the thief was often on the streets after all, and was more flexible. He took advantage of Shen Qingchen's inattention, broke free from his restraints, and then picked up a stone and threw it at Shen Qingchen. Shen Qingchen couldn't dodge in time, and the stone hit his shoulder, and he groaned in pain.

But Shen Qingchen did not retreat, he pounced on the thief again, this time he successfully pinned the thief to the ground and took back Jiang Zhi's bag. He stood up, panting, his face covered with sweat and dirt, the wound on his forehead was still bleeding, and his clothes became dirty.

At the other end of the street, Jiang Zhi waited anxiously. Her heart was in her throat, and her eyes were fixed on the direction where Shen Qingchen disappeared. Various bad images kept appearing in her mind, and she was worried that Shen Qingchen would be in danger. She paced back and forth in place, and the people around her looked at her curiously, but she didn't care about it at all.

Finally, she saw Shen Qingchen limping back. His appearance made Jiang Zhi feel distressed. She hurried over, her eyes full of worry and distress. "How are you? Are you hurt?" Jiang Zhi asked anxiously, her voice trembling a little. Shen Qingchen forced a smile and said, "It's okay, just a little scrape, the bag is back."

Jiang Zhi took the bag, then helped Shen Qingchen walk to a bench by the roadside and sat down. She carefully examined Shen Qingchen's wounds, and seeing the scratches on his forehead and bruises on his shoulders, tears couldn't help but well up in her eyes. "Why are you so stupid? For a bag, what if something happens to you?" Jiang Zhi said with a hint of complaint.

Shen Qingchen gently wiped away the tears from the corners of Jiang Zhi's eyes and said softly: "This bag is very important to you, and how can I let that guy run away like this? I have to protect you." A warm current surged in Jiang Zhi's heart. She knew that Shen Qingchen really cared about her and was willing to do anything for her.

She took out a handkerchief from her bag and carefully wiped the wound on Shen Qingchen's forehead. Shen Qingchen looked at Jiang Zhi's focused look, and his heart was full of emotion. At this moment, he felt that all the pain was worth it. The world around them seemed to be quiet. There were only the two of them, in this bustling city street, enjoying the deep love between them.

After Jiang Zhi bandaged the wound, they decided not to go to the exhibition, but to go home and rest. On the way home, Jiang Zhi held Shen Qingchen's arm tightly, and her steps became very slow and light, for fear of touching Shen Qingchen's wound. Shen Qingchen looked down at Jiang Zhi from time to time, her eyes full of pampering.

After returning home, Jiang Zhi asked Shen Qingchen to sit on the sofa, and then she went to the kitchen to make a cup of hot tea. She brought the tea to Shen Qingchen and said, "Drink some tea to warm your body." Shen Qingchen took the tea and took a sip. The warm tea flowed down his throat into his stomach, making him feel much more comfortable.

Jiang Zhi sat next to Shen Qingchen, still looking at him with some worry. Shen Qingchen smiled and said, "I'm really fine, don't worry so much." Jiang Zhi gently leaned on Shen Qingchen's shoulder and said, "You know what? When you went to chase the thief, I was really scared. I was afraid of losing you." Shen Qingchen hugged Jiang Zhi in his arms and said, "I won't let you lose me. I will always be by your side to protect you."

They cuddled together quietly, savoring this moment of peace. Although this little episode brought some shock and pain, it also made them feel their love for each other even more deeply. They knew that they were the most important people in the world, and no matter what difficulties they encountered, they would face them together.
