Chapter 17: Keemun Black Tea

Gu Yanchen's perspective

It has been almost a year since Shen Qingci left.

Gu Yanchen's cultural tourism complex project was progressing smoothly, and the tea culture experience area had been initially built according to his original vision. However, this place, which once carried the hopes of him and Shen Qingci, was now only occupied by him.

There was a dedicated tea room within the experience area, its decor somewhat similar to that of the Evening Fragrance Tea House. Gu Yanchen rarely went there unless there were important guests. He feared the sight would bring back memories, that the familiar atmosphere would cause him to relapse into longing for Shen Qingci.

That day, an important partner came to visit and specifically asked to have tea in that teahouse. Gu Yanchen had no choice but to accompany him.

The tea master in the teahouse expertly brewed tea, and the air was filled with a rich aroma. It was the aroma of Keemun black tea, mellow and sweet, with a unique "Keemen fragrance".

Gu Yanchen picked up the teacup but didn't drink. He looked at the amber tea in the cup, and Shen Qingci's figure appeared before his eyes. He remembered the first time they drank Keemun black tea together, and her shy smile at that time.

Just then, the assistant hurried in and whispered in his ear, "Mr. Gu, there's news from the Evening Fragrance Tea House that Granny Zhang has suddenly fallen ill. There's no one to take care of the tea house now, so it might have to close temporarily."

Gu Yanchen's heart sank. Granny Zhang had watched Shen Qingci grow up and had always been kind to him. He immediately stood up, apologized to his partner, and hurried to Chayun Street.

Arriving at the entrance of the Evening Fragrance Tea House, he saw a sign saying "Closed." A neighbor told Gu Yanchen that Granny Zhang had suffered a heart attack and had been rushed to the hospital.

Gu Yanchen rushed to the hospital and saw Grandpa Chen standing outside the operating room with a pale face.

"Grandpa Chen, how is Granny Zhang?"

"He's still being treated. The doctor says his condition isn't good." Grandpa Chen sighed. "Qingci isn't around anymore. What should we do?"

The mention of Shen Qingci made Gu Yanchen's heart pierce like a needle. He pulled out his phone and found the number he had long blocked. After hesitating for a long time, he ultimately didn't call. He knew that even if he could get in touch with Shen Qingci, she might not come back. Furthermore, he didn't know how to tell her the news.

He paced back and forth in the corridor outside the operating room, feeling restless. He remembered how Shen Qingci had entrusted the teahouse to Granny Zhang and Grandpa Chen before his departure. He couldn't let "Wanxiang Teahouse" close like this, couldn't let Shen Qingci's hard work go to waste.

After the operation, the doctor said that Grandma Zhang was out of danger for the time being, but she needed a long period of rest and could not overwork herself.

Gu Yanchen made a decision. He hired a professional tea artist and several waiters to temporarily take over the management of the "Wanxiang Tea House." He also personally established a strict management system to ensure the tea house could operate normally.

He would take time out every week to visit the teahouse, check the quality of the tea, and instruct the waiters on their service. He guarded the "Evening Fragrance Teahouse" like a precious treasure.

He didn't know why he did this, perhaps for Shen Qingci, or perhaps for the time he could never go back to. He only knew that as long as the "Evening Fragrance Tea House" was still there, there would still be a faint connection between him and Shen Qingci.
