(7 Fresh Coins) Chapter 16 (Part 1) Say You Like Me
If anyone were paying attention, they would notice that the scene was slightly eerie. A man strode towards Xu Qi's door, carrying... another man in his arms. Xu Qi was already standing there. Seeing them from afar, he immediately strode over and asked in a low voice, "Where's the little girl?" As he spoke, he quickly took the man from him.
"Don't worry, I've already had someone send that girl to the Yao family." Yan Jun waved his hand, a mocking smile appearing on his handsome face. "Speaking of which, our princess has been a great help this time. I didn't expect the problem to lie with Lian Sheng. It seems you'll be busy for a while."
Xu Qi was silent for a few seconds, then said softly, "Thank you."
Seeing his expression, Yan Jun knew this wasn't the time to discuss these matters. Since meeting Xu Qi, he had never seen the other value anyone so much—of course, that spoiled and willful younger brother didn't count. He and Xu Qi were quite close, but he had no personal relationship with Si Qiang. If Xu Qi hadn't asked for his help, he wouldn't have bothered with this former subordinate who had already left Xu Qi. But this whole commotion had made him realize a bigger problem. This cold, aloof friend had actually fallen into someone's web of emotions, making him sigh at the unpredictability of life.
"He was injected with a lot of anesthetic, he'll probably be asleep for a while." He shook his head, turned and left. "I'm leaving now, don't forget to invite me for tea next time."
Xu Qi didn't try to stop him, but simply turned around and walked towards the bedroom with Si Qiang in his arms. The pale face and slightly furrowed brows of the person in his arms made him extremely anxious, and he had no mind to think about anything else.
Gently placing the person on the bed, Xu Qi slowly sat on the edge and sighed heavily. Why was he always so vulnerable when he came back? Although he had clearly grown, he was still inexperienced, and with this situation now, how could he feel at ease?
What to do… I can’t let go anymore. He reached out and brushed aside the strands of hair that had fallen across Si Qiang’s forehead, his fingers gently stroking her slightly furrowed brows. Gradually, her delicate eyebrows relaxed, and her thick eyelashes trembled slightly, as if constantly plucking at a string in his heart. Xu Qi couldn’t help but lower his head and kiss her smooth forehead, then rubbed his lips against her silky cheeks, finally kissing her rosy, beautiful lips.
With his eyes half-closed, he savored the warmth emanating from the other, a mere fleeting kiss that nearly drowned him completely. He knew, in this situation, that his actions were nothing short of taking advantage of someone in distress, no different in essence from the man he had always despised. Ultimately, he was just a despicable man. Yet, he still craved it. Only in this state could he experience such genuine warmth. Or rather, only now did he have the chance to confront his own feelings without fear of rejection or hurt.
After lingering for a long time, he finally looked up reluctantly at those tightly closed eyes again—as it should have been. However, the reality left him completely frozen.
Si Qiang's eyes were open. Her slightly moist pupils were fixed on him, her lips trembling slightly, but she didn't utter a sound.
Xu Qi stared at him blankly for a while. Wasn't he supposed to have been given anesthesia? Why did he wake up so quickly? No, that's not the point... the point is... he's done for!
He quickly got up, without saying a word, almost as if he wanted to flee.
"Don't go..." Si Qiang's voice was so weak it was almost inaudible, yet it was exceptionally clear in this environment.
Xu Qi slowly withdrew his foot, knowing that the other person was just putting on a brave face. He gritted his teeth, turned to face the other person, and said, "You should rest first. We can talk about it later."
“No…” Si Qiang began with difficulty, “Tell me…why…”
Although he knew he would have to face this problem sooner or later, he simply couldn't deal with it right now. Xu Qi turned his head away, avoiding the other person's gaze, which was utterly intimidating yet impossible for him to meet at this moment.
Her vision blurred, a deafening roar filled her ears, and her body felt weak and limp. Si Qiang struggled desperately to sit up: "Tell...me..."
Catching the other person's movement out of the corner of his eye, Xu Qi reflexively grabbed him: "Don't do anything rash!"
"Why...tell me..." Like a broken tape record, only knowing how to repeat these few words, Si Qiang kept shaking his head, trying to regain his senses. In his not-so-clear mind, only one thought remained: He had to get an answer.
Author's Note:
Finally, I can sit down and write for a while. It took me a long time to get back into the swing of things... I hope you won't think it's too bad.
