(8 Fresh Coins) Chapter 2 (Part 2) The Worst Situation

Standing by the door, Shao Yang's face was ashen. His gaze darted back and forth between Xu Qi and Si Qiang beside him, his expression one of utter despair, as if the world was about to end. How could he be so unlucky? He almost cried out in despair. His brother would definitely kill him! But…

He had witnessed it firsthand; his brother's condition had been quite poor throughout the year. Although he hadn't contacted Si Qiang, he could imagine that Si Qiang's condition was definitely no better than Xu Qi's. Upon meeting him this time, seeing his brother's excessively pale face, he couldn't help but sigh helplessly. He had intended to bring Si Qiang directly to see Xu Qi, letting the two of them have a proper conversation, which would be better than them torturing themselves there. However, he hadn't expected to encounter such a terrible situation. Just now, when they arrived at the door and saw that it wasn't closed, they went straight in, only to immediately see Xu Qi and Si Qiang arguing, and then heard Xu Qi say "already engaged"—as far as he knew, Xu Qi shouldn't be engaged, but the other party's next words made him unsure whether it was true or not.

While trying to figure out how to break the standoff between the two, he secretly glanced at Si Qiang beside him. Her expression was unbearable to look at, while the two remained completely oblivious, continuing their argument. Shao Yang was frantic, about to do something to alert Xu Qi, when Xu Qi's words, "It has nothing to do with him (Si Qiang)," sank his heart. He then heard Si Qiang slamming her head against the door, and immediately realized the worst was yet to come. Caught off guard, he forgot to react, simply staring blankly at the two.

"Brother, brother..." Merlin's timid voice broke the stiff silence in the room.

Shao Yang reacted immediately, rushed over and grabbed Merlin, while whispering to Xu Qi, "Don't do anything you'll regret." Then, ignoring the boy's protests, he forcibly led him away and cleverly closed the door behind him.

The door was closed, and the two men left in the room stared at each other from a distance of a few meters. The air seemed to become extremely thin, and their increasingly rapid breathing was particularly clear in the quiet room. Their nerves were on edge, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense and cold.

Xu Qi stared at Si Qiang for a while, then finally turned his head, trying his best to maintain a calm tone: "What are you doing here?" Although Si Qiang had heard what he said, he couldn't explain anymore—he forced himself not to hesitate any longer. Only he knew how much he wanted to hold her at that moment, to ease the pain of longing. But life is full of things beyond one's control, and he had never been allowed to be willful, nor would he ever act recklessly according to his true feelings again. Therefore, what he should do was try to curb their relationship. Hesitation would only make him sink deeper and might even delay her.

Si Qiang remained in a backward posture, his back lightly against the door, his thin lips tightly pressed together, not uttering a word. In truth, from the moment he heard those words, almost all the strength had been drained from his body; it was a miracle that he could even stand at this moment.

Her vision was shaking violently, and her heart felt as if it had been crushed. A sharp pain swept through her body, and Si Qiang couldn't help but shiver. A chilling gray mist filled her beautiful eyes, and her whole body swayed slightly, as if it would shatter at any moment.

Xu Qi waited a few seconds but still didn't hear a response. She couldn't help but turn to look at him again. She was instantly terrified by the gray aura surrounding him. Her body seemed to have a mind of its own, and she quickly moved closer to the door and reached out to support the man's body.

The man's strong arms and familiar body temperature made Si Qiang feel dizzy. He leaned closer to the man as if he were cold, and even reached out to wrap his arms around the other's broad shoulders.

The excruciating pain and chill in his heart subsided slightly, and Si Qiang suddenly realized that he had actually sought solace in the arms of the man who had driven him to the brink of madness—how could he be so despicable! He pushed the other man away forcefully, still without uttering a word, but his gaze toward Xu Qi grew even colder.

At this moment, he truly understood what hatred meant. How could this man crush a person's heart and then discard it like trash? Suddenly, he felt that his entire pursuit had been like an unreal illusion, a hazy dream, as if it were something from a past life. A void seemed to fill his chest, and his whole body began to sink.

Suddenly pushed away, Xu Qi felt an emptiness in his arms. He lowered his eyes to avoid the other person's piercing gaze and whispered, "Don't..."

"Enough. I never want to see you again." Si Qiang interrupted him, her face expressionless, then turned to open the door. Fine, since continuing this entanglement would be wrong no matter what, he wouldn't humiliate himself any further. He truly admitted defeat. This unforgettable love had given him a taste of sweetness, but mostly unspeakable bitterness and pain—loving so difficultly had truly exhausted him; he didn't have the strength to torture himself any further. Even if he regretted leaving, at least for now, he had lost the confidence to face men again.

His tone was resolute, unlike anything Xu Qi had ever heard before, like a sharp sword severing the invisible thread between them. Xu Qi felt a sudden tightness in his chest, and in a panic, he pressed his hand against the door, his voice trembling slightly: "You... what do you mean?"

Author's Note:

Damn... why did it turn out like this while I was writing?

After browsing various pirated novel websites online, I discovered that Shao Yang was actually categorized as a "scumbag seme turned loyal dog" character, which immediately made me (⊙o⊙)
