Chapter 23 (Part 1) Intertwined

Wei Lan scratched his cheek with some difficulty: "This is not something I can decide. He has been there since I can remember, and sometimes he runs out of control and does all sorts of weird things. But as the dominant personality, I have gradually learned how to coexist peacefully with him. As long as I satisfy his obsession with force, I can live a normal life. We both understand that we cannot cross each other's bottom line, otherwise we will both be hurt—in the end, we are one person. He chose to follow Mr. Xu, mostly for those weapons and ammunition... He would not do anything that would truly endanger the young master, and I am even less likely to do so."

“Regardless, your loyalty is no longer enough for me to trust you.” Xu Qi’s eyes flashed even colder. “I will reconsider our relationship. Now, you can go back.”

Upon seeing Xu Qi's intention to let Wei Lan go, Si Qiang immediately objected, "No, you can't leave." He had gone to great lengths to catch Wei Lan, this big fish. First, he used the Francisco family's power to sweep through the area around New York, then he used his remaining confidants to stir up trouble, and finally, he borrowed the power of Xu Qi and Yan Jun to trap him. Now, he was extremely worried about letting the tiger return to the mountain.

Unexpectedly, Xu Qi immediately turned his attention to him, his eyes filled with hostility: "I said let him go."

Si Qiang felt a tightness in his chest and pursed his lips, remaining silent. He had gone to great lengths, even traveling all the way to Sicily, just to eliminate this major threat to Xu Qi. He had finally returned, and from the moment he saw Xu Qi, his heart had grown increasingly hot, every cell in his body leaping with joy—yet the other party didn't even give him a kind look!

Seeing the situation was turning sour, Wei Lan wisely said, "We'll meet another day," and quickly slipped away. Si Qiang's worries were completely unnecessary. Although he and his other self seemed to serve different masters, Young Master Xu was, after all, the only heir of Old Master Xu. No matter how ruthless or powerful that old man was, he would never harm his own son, and besides, he would never allow it. This matter was also taken very carefully before he acted. Old Master Xu wanted to test his son, so the most suitable candidate was himself. In fact, he never thought that the two of them would fail this test—of course, if they really failed, it wouldn't be Wei Lan's business; they would cause enough trouble on their own—the outcome was inevitable, only the process would be different.

The door closed silently, leaving only two people inside, yet the atmosphere grew increasingly eerie. One stood in the doorway, the other by the sofa, their eyes meeting, but neither uttering a word.

After a few minutes of silence, Si Qiang finally spoke first: "Long time no see."

Xu Qi reflexively reached for a nod, but then choked back his words. He slowly lowered his eyes, his hands clenching tightly, his nails digging into his palms. For months since returning empty-handed from California, he had been imagining seeing Si Qiang again, but he hadn't expected things to turn out this way. An unprecedented anxiety and worry, an unprecedented self-loathing, an unprecedented intense longing—all stemmed from the person before him. When he received a text message from an unknown number, containing only the address of the long-vacant Longming Building, his intuition told him that only that person came to mind. Ignoring the myriad thoughts surging within him, he rushed here with Yan Jun, only to find Si Qiang, in that state, engaged in a one-on-one duel with Wei Lan.

His father's test, Si Qiang's protection, and his own inaction—these things intertwined, turning his mind into a tangled mess, leaving him only able to force himself to maintain a facade of calm.

"Tap, tap, tap..." It was the sound of high heels hitting the ground. Xu Qi looked up and saw Si Qiang standing in front of him, her beautiful eyes, which always appeared in his dreams, staring intently at him. He froze, unable to even look away.

"I heard we passed the test," Si Qiang said quietly, with a hint of self-deprecation. "Although I don't know what the test was, I guess it might be related to our relationship? So, shouldn't we do something to celebrate?"

Looking into his calm yet turbulent eyes, Xu Qi felt an overwhelming urge surge overwhelm his jumbled thoughts. He suddenly relaxed his tense shoulders, a slight smile playing on his lips: "You're right. Let's celebrate."

Si Qiang raised her eyebrows, her eyes filled with obvious amusement: "How shall we celebrate?"

“Yeah… how should we celebrate?” Xu Qi tilted his head as if thinking, then suddenly reached out and grabbed the other’s loose collar, turned his head, and kissed the other’s rose-colored lips deeply.
