Six Days in a Deserted Village (Part 7)
As the old man shouted, there were knocks on the windows all around, the door bolts clicked into place, and the gavels banged like a warning to drive away the strangers who were still lingering outside.
The sky seemed to be in fast forward. The setting sun moved westward and soon sank into the horizon. The darkness was thick and the pale moon appeared from the clouds.
Dark night has fallen.
Lu Fanye grabbed Xu Wei and walked quickly towards his residence.
Xu Wei did not resist. He followed him back along the cobblestone road, his eyes sweeping across the houses where the light was gradually dimming, and fixed on the white lanterns hanging from the eaves.
At some point, every household had hung up white lanterns, some corridors even had white gauze draped over them, a circle of crystal salt was sprinkled around the doors and windows, and the densely hung tablets of gods jingled in the wind.
"call out--"
The night wind swayed the white gauze, the candle in the lantern flickered, and the light was dim and unclear.
The candles in the lanterns of the houses they passed were all extinguished.
Lu Fanye vigilantly pulled Xu Wei to his side and paid attention to the noises around him.
“Ding-ling-ling——”
The clear sound of the bells was extremely ethereal in the empty and deserted night, the wooden poles collided with each other, the sound of uniform footsteps came from the front, and even the friction of the clothes was extremely uniform.
Xu Wei leaned over and looked.
A red and white sedan chair appeared on the narrow stone road. The red curtain facing it fluttered gently. Bearers in white clothes and white hair were carrying wooden poles in front, behind, and on both sides of the sedan chair. They walked in even steps, pausing after each step, as if they were walking on strange musical notes.
“Tick-tick.”
“Tick-tick.”
“Tick-tick.”
In the blink of an eye, they took three steps forward, one at a time.
Getting closer.
Xu Wei estimated the width of the village road and realized that unless the nearby houses opened the doors to let them in, they would definitely come face to face with the sedan bearers.
Lu Fanye had obviously thought of this as well. He pulled Xu Wei over the fence and stood in a small open space in front of the house, waiting silently for the sedan chair to approach.
“Tick-tick.”
“Tick-tick.”
“Tick-tick.”
The first sedan bearer brushed past them, and the horizontal wooden pole almost poked Xu Wei's neck.
The red and white sedan chair was shaking, and the red curtain was lifted a little, allowing the darkness inside to leak out, and a dark yellow corner of clothing flashed faintly.
“Tick-tick.”
The second sedan bearer came over. His hair was as stiff as a hemp rope, he had a typical smile on his face, and his hands were light as he lifted the sedan.
“Tick-tick.”
The third sedan bearer stared straight ahead without blinking, only his legs moved with his steps.
“Ss ...
A hand suddenly reached out, grabbed the sedan bearer's head and pulled it hard.
"!" Lu Fanye quickly pulled people behind him, tensed his body and ready to fight at any time.
Xu Wei held the light piece of paper in his hand, crumpled it, and threw it away.
She rested her chin on Lu Fanye's shoulder and looked at the paper man who looked up: "What are you looking at? If you look again, I will tear you all apart."
Lu Fanye: “?”
The sedan chair stopped, and the paper man puffed and turned around, with the door facing the two of them.
There was a rustling noise, and all the paper figures knelt down towards the sedan door.
The red curtain opened a gap, revealing a swaying figure inside, and a pair of red and green shoes embroidered with peony flowers stepped out.
Xu Wei was impatient: "Playing tricks and taking your time."
The Peony Shoes paused visibly.
The bright red curtain was quickly opened, and a figure stood in front of her in a few steps. He raised the folding fan in his hand and tapped it lightly in the air.
The dark yellow ancient robe dragged to his feet, with a white cross-collared right-fronted gown underneath, and a belt tied loosely around his waist. Just looking at the whole outfit, he looked somewhat ethereal, but it was a pity that the red and green peony shoes on his feet were too unsightly, making his face look a bit vulgar.
Xu Wei stared at the person's high ponytail tied with a rubber band for a long time.
The fox fairy raised her wrist again and pointed at her with the tip of the fan.
"Why are you stealing rubber bands?" Xu Wei frowned. "Don't you know that the village is already poor enough? I will report you to the village committee if you do this."
Lu Fanye and the fox fairy in front of him froze at the same time.
Xu Wei broke free from Lu Fanye, walked up to the fox fairy, and grabbed its two small ears that were exposed on the top of its head.
"You must be kidding. How can a fox's ears be so small? And they're yellow. Are you a weasel?"
The fox fairy screamed in pain, covered her ears and bared her teeth before biting.
Xu Wei instinctively grabbed its arm and threw it to its back.
"Bang!"
She looked at her hands in confusion, remembering that she had never learned how to fight in the village.
"My face!" The fox fairy's head hit the ground, and the fan fell out of his hand with a snap. He looked incredulous, "How could this be? How could it be - like this? Why didn't you fall for my spell?"
Xu Wei grabbed its hands and pressed them down behind its back, making it lie prone on the ground with its waist bent, looking as if it had been arrested on the spot.
“Great Immortal, Great Immortal! Ahhhh——” Its tail slipped out from its wide robe in pain and swung left and right on the ground, “Please spare me, please spare me!”
Xu Wei glanced at the not-so-furry tail and held its head down: "Tell me! Are you a fox or not?"
“I am! I am ah ah ah – I am not, Great Immortal, please spare me, spare me!”
"what do you?"
"I am Kitsune... Weasel-kun."
"I knew it," Xu Wei proudly grabbed its tail and rubbed it in his hand, "I have lived in this village for hundreds of years, and there is nothing I don't know."
The fox fairy who felt humiliated but dared not move: "..."
"Tell me, why are you pretending to be a fox fairy?"
*
"Weasel?!" Chen Yu pointed at the man in ancient costume who was hunched over and was being held opposite in shock.
"It was it that attacked us yesterday?" Lu Qian was also shocked, "But..."
The thing yesterday had amazing fighting power and made a lot of noise. It was completely different from the cowardly guy in front of him who had his hands tied, lowered his head, and occasionally stole a glance at other people!
“Don’t…” It quickly glanced at the person holding the rope and lowered its voice, “Don’t underestimate me, I don’t appear in the world as a beast!”
Xu Wei: "So did you attack them last night? This will determine whether I should add another charge of assaulting a foreigner to your charges."
The fox fairy shrank her pointed ears: "Yes, but not me..."
"Speak human language."
"The beast body is the will of Lord Yue Zushen..." The fox fairy gathered his wide sleeves, a trace of panic flashed across his face, "I usually show myself as a human when I walk in the world."
Xu Wei understood: "Does the ancestor usually use your body to cause trouble? Yesterday he even came to cause trouble for outsiders in person. He is indeed not a good person."
The fox fairy's eyes widened and she shook her head violently at her.
"What are you afraid of? I am from the village, but that doesn't mean I will blindly follow others." Xu Wei circled the rope with his fingers a few times. "Besides, I always feel that it can't beat me."
The other players stared with wide eyes along with the fox fairy.
Lu Fanye sighed.
Xu Weila sat down on the chair: "Although I have lost my memory, since this man makes me feel very comfortable, I will temporarily believe that I am on your side."
The man who made people feel comfortable sighed again.
"What about you?" Xu Wei pulled the rope.
The fox fairy was pulled forward and shouted: "I am on the same side as the immortal!"
Xu Wei nodded with satisfaction: "Okay, as an application for joining the team, tell me what you know?"
"Speak nicely, if you dare to lie to me..."
The fox fairy was turned into a quail by her stare.
It has been one thousand and fifty years since our ancestor died.
Its body was sealed in the temple, but its soul could move anywhere in the village.
During the Yuezu Festival, its power is at its strongest. It can easily influence reality and punish those who disrespect "God".
After the sacrifice, its power will reach its peak within the next fifty years, and it will bestow blessings on the villagers.
The fox fairy was originally an ordinary weasel. More than ten years ago, he was blessed by the Yue Zu God and has since become intelligent. The price is that he has to serve as the container of Yue Zu God's soul when he needs it, so as to maximize his power.
Xu Wei propped up his chin and looked at it: "Stupid rat."
The fox fairy stammered, "Foxes...foxes can be killed but not humiliated."
"You're still a fox. How can you become stronger if you can't even face yourself?"
Fox Fairy: "No one will worship the Weasel Fairy."
Xu Wei changed the subject: "Have you ever thought about why it chose you as its vessel? Just because you are an intelligent animal?"
The fox fairy raised her face proudly and said, "Of course I am gifted and can withstand the power of Master Yue Zushen."
"But besides you, there must be other people in this village who have benefited from it. Why did you choose it?"
The fox fairy seemed to have never thought about this question and was stunned.
"Then let me ask you a little deeper," Xu Wei asked in a probing tone, "Do you still remember how you were blessed by it? Or, what happened when you first encountered the Yue Zu Shen?"
The fox fairy opened her mouth, but could not say anything.
"I forgot..."
"It's only been a dozen years, have you forgotten it?"
The fox fairy was now completely motionless and stood there blankly.
After a while, its brows furrowed and a faint black light flashed in its eyes.
Xu Wei touched the folding fan in his hand and fell into deep thought.
During this short period of time, part of her memory was restored, and other people also explained to her some information about the players and copies, which just connected the currently known clues together.
The relationship between Yuezu God and the little boy is that they wear similar wooden plaques, while the relationship between him and the fox fairy is that they borrow the body.
The story of the little boy being killed by his grandmother and the fox fairy's wisdom is still unknown.
It loves to give power to future generations, but also demands absolute respect from future generations.
The village chief also hid the life-guarding tablet of Yue Zu Shen.
The people in this village pursue immortality and eternal youth, and even believe that eating human flesh can lead to longevity.
The villagers are indeed very young, much younger than those in remote villages - usually such mountain villages are mostly populated by left-behind elderly and children, while the young and middle-aged people have gone out to work.
The villagers do not like to use electric lights or any other modern equipment. They are superstitious and do not like to go out. If they have to go out during the day, they try to stay in the shade or under the shade of trees.
The time from the death of the ancestor to the present is consistent with the number of cycles of the Yuezu Festival.
Deserted village.
The "copy" they are in is called Six Days in a Deserted Village.
The superficial clues in Xu Wei's mind seemed to have a node and were gradually connecting into a circle.
"I don't know..." The fox fairy covered his head and stepped back in panic, "My memory seems to be confused."
Sun Yi frowned and looked at it: "How about you think about it carefully?"
Xu Wei turned his head to the person next to him and asked: "Tomorrow's program is a parade? The Yuezu Temple will appear?"
Lu Fanye nodded.
"Okay, weasel, no need to recall." After receiving an affirmative answer, Xu Wei tapped the fox fairy's head with his folding fan, causing the latter to look at him blankly.
"Tomorrow we'll wait for its temple to be discovered, and then we'll dig out its corpse and see for ourselves."
