The cold wind from the alley blew past her ears, and Li Susu's fingertips holding the fruit knife trembled slightly.
When she saw clearly that the person standing in the shadow was Bo Junyi, she froze in place.
The sound of the three thugs' footsteps as they fled, tumbling and crawling, gradually faded away.
"Are you hurt?"
Bo Junyi reached out to check her wrist, but she dodged it without leaving a trace.
Li Susu took a half step back, digging her nails into her palms before she could even manage to steady her voice: "I'm fine. Why are you here?"
"What do you think?" Bo Junyi snatched the fruit knife from her hand, folded it and stuffed it into the bag, then held the bag in his hand.
In the warm light of the street lamp, Li Susu looked at him quietly.
His usually neatly combed back hair now had a few strands of hair sticking up, and his tie clip was not in the center position.
She could almost imagine him frantically looking for her all over the world.
In an instant, dull pain flooded over my heart like a tide.
She lowered her head silently, not daring to look him in the eyes.
"Susu, no matter what happens in the future, please don't ignore the phone, okay? Do you know how worried I am about you..."
These words were like a fine needle, piercing her forced composure.
Li Susu suddenly squatted down, hot tears streaming down her face.
"Bo Junyi, I lied to you..." Her voice was broken by sobs. "The baby is gone. I had a heavy hemorrhage the day I ran out of the KTV..."
Memories came flooding back, and she curled up, hugged her knees, and cried and shook all over.
Bo Junyi felt a fire burning in his chest.
His clenched fists trembled slightly and his breathing became rapid, but he could only pretend to be calm and let the heartache spread freely in his blood.
After a while, the crowd of onlookers gradually gathered and discussions arose one after another.
"How dare this young man bully a girl!" came the scolding voice of a middle-aged aunt.
"You're crying with such a handsome boyfriend? I'd have to worship him every day!" The envious teasing made Li Susu's crying pause slightly.
Just as she was about to stand up, she suddenly flew into the air - Bo Junyi tightened his arms and picked her up sideways.
"This young couple looks so good, are they filming an idol drama?" The crowd exclaimed.
Li Susu buried her face deeply in his arms, feeling his strong heartbeat, and her tense nerves gradually relaxed.
The late autumn evening breeze slapped the car window, and Li Susu was steadily carried into the passenger seat by Bo Junyi.
"Are you hungry?" His voice was very soft, and his fingertips unconsciously stroked the back of her cold hand.
Li Susu's stomach rumbled at the right moment, causing Bo Junyi to smile slightly. "I'll take you to eat something."
Silence spread between the two of them, with only the breeze brushing past their ears.
After a long while, Li Susu looked at the neon lights rapidly receding outside the car window and said softly, "Bo Junyi, why don't you just scold me a few words..."
Bo Junyi tightened his grip on the steering wheel slightly.
"Susu, you're already very sad, how can I bear to say anything more to you? Besides, it's not your fault."
"It's my fault." Li Susu's tears rolled down again. "I failed to protect the baby. We were together because of the baby."
Her voice was tearful, yet remarkably calm. "Now that the baby is gone, it's only a matter of time before we separate..."
"Who said that?" Bo Junyi gently stepped on the brakes and the car pulled over.
When he turned around, he looked at Li Susu, with dark currents surging in his eyes.
"Susu, babies are very important to me, but that doesn't mean we have to separate if we lose them. Don't forget, we are already married, we are husband and wife——"
"I'll only be a burden to you!" Li Susu interrupted him, tears welling up in her eyes again. "You're so outstanding, and I can't give you anything. Without the baby, there's no reason for me to stay with you!"
The carriage fell into dead silence, with only her suppressed sobs as the sound.
Bo Junyi stretched out his hand to wipe her tears, but stopped in mid-air.
After a long moment, his Adam's apple rolled, and his voice was so deep that it seemed to come from deep within his chest: "Actually, I need you more."
The warm yellow ceiling light in the car cast a soft glow in Bo Junyi's eyes. His thumb gently stroked Li Susu's white knuckles: "There will be babies in the future."
Li Susu's eyelashes trembled violently and her voice was muffled.
"This pregnancy was an accident. Maybe in the future we will never..." Before she finished speaking, Bo Junyi leaned over and kissed her.
The scent of mint mixed with cedar enveloped her, and the man's warm palm held the back of her head with irresistible tenderness.
"The doctor said my sperm activity is insufficient?" After the kiss, Bo Junyi rested his hand against her forehead, his breath sweeping over her hot cheeks. "But we had twins the first time. This proves that we are a perfect match, destined to be together..."
His thumb gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
Li Susu burst into laughter, but her tears kept falling.
Bo Junyi simply hugged her in his arms, kissed the top of her head, the center of her eyebrows, the tip of her nose, and finally covered her trembling lips, as if he wanted to melt all his heartache into this kiss.
"Don't carry it all on your own anymore." Bo Junyi's voice was muffled in her neck, filled with suppressed tenderness. "And Shen Qingyao, stay away from her. She'll do anything to achieve her goals."
Li Susu raised her tearful eyes to look at him, tears still hanging on her eyelashes: "Could it be that you misunderstood her?"
"You're too kind." Bo Junyi nuzzled her nose, his warm breath brushing against her ear. "Listen to your husband, ok?"
This name made Li Susu's heart tremble. She nodded, and then seemed to remember something: "If Mom knew about the baby... I wouldn't dare face her."
"I'm here." Bo Junyi tightened his arms, holding her tightly in his embrace, his chin resting on the top of her head. "Don't worry about anything, just take good care of yourself. I'll always be by your side."
