Chapter 12: Girl's Heart

The annual autumn sports meeting was approaching. The sports committee member took the registration form and asked everyone's intentions one by one.

The sports meet is a good opportunity to relax because there are no classes for those two days, but conversely, it is also a very tiring activity, so there are very few people in the class who sign up.

Yancuo's athletic ability wasn't well developed, so she wasn't planning on participating in this kind of activity. Facing the sports committee member's pleading, she said a little embarrassedly, "I'm sorry, I haven't had any athletic ability since I was a child, so forget about this kind of activity."

The sports committee member left, feeling somewhat discouraged. After a round of discussions around the class, I found only a handful of people participating. With the deadline for submitting registration forms drawing near, even the homeroom teacher had joined the lobbying effort.

"Classmates, the point of the sports meet is to exercise your bodies, and you can also experience fun beyond just studying. The school requires a certain number of participants for each sport. Just treat it as entertainment and exercise. The results aren't important; the process is what's most important, right?"

The students below were all complaining, and the sports committee member took the small notebook and asked them one by one. Some students filled in their names reluctantly.

By the time Yan Cuo arrived, the only remaining spot for the girls was the long-distance race. Between the 800m and the 3,000m, Yan Cuo chose the 800m.

I have no athletic talent, so 3,000 meters is almost impossible for me. 800 meters, if I grit my teeth, I should be able to persevere.

Su He also chose the 800-meter race like Yan Cuo. Resigned to their fate, they went to the playground to run after school. At first, both ran very slowly, becoming breathless and stopping and starting soon after.

The weather was still incredibly hot, and after running a few laps, they were covered in sweat, which stuck to their backs and was extremely uncomfortable. They continued running for a while, then returned to the dormitory.

It had been too long since they'd exercised, and both of them were suffering from back pain. After washing up, they lay in bed in a mess.

The muscles in his legs were extremely sore, and Yan Cuo suddenly remembered the stretching exercises his physical education teacher had taught him, so he pulled Su He along and started doing them. After a while, they finally felt a little better, and they both climbed into bed, both sleeping soundly.

When he woke up the next day, his muscles were still a little sore. Su He complained bitterly and refused to go running in the evening no matter how much he was persuaded.

Yan Cuo had no choice but to go to the playground alone. The playground was cool and breezy at night. Groups of people were walking around, and some, like Yan Cuo, were practicing running.

Yancuo took a breath and started running. After running a few laps, he still felt extremely tired and out of breath.

After standing there and resting for a while, he suddenly saw a figure walking towards him. He stopped in front of her and looked at her: "What's wrong? Are you tired of running?"

Yan Cuo said sheepishly, "Yeah, no one in our class signed up for the long-distance running, but the school required that we fill the quota, so I had no choice but to be dragged along. I had no idea what to do, as I've never been very athletic, so I was definitely at the bottom. I ran out of energy after just a few laps."

Yu Muyang looked at her serious expression and laughed inwardly. "When running, you have to learn to adjust your breathing. You can't maintain a constant speed for long distances. You can maintain your stamina and run at a steady pace in the early stages, then sprint when others are exhausted."

Yan Cuo took notes seriously, looking at him with bright eyes: "You know so much, are you good at running?" He shook his head, "I'm just average, but definitely much better than you. Let me take you running." After that, he started running out. Yan Cuo hurried to catch up.

He kept running at a steady pace, and Yan Cuo followed his instructions to adjust his breathing. The night wind was a little cool, and his breath was around him, a pleasant and refreshing smell.

It was completely dark, and she could only make out his outline. The young man, with a smile on his face, slowly ran with her. His tall figure, seen from behind, was particularly eye-catching. Yan Cuo stared blankly for a moment, realizing he had fallen far behind. He hurriedly sped up to catch up.

After running an unknown number of laps, the boy looked at her and said, "It's time to speed up now. Start running three laps from here. You need to adjust your breathing and don't run too fast. Remember to follow me. I will wait for you at the finish line." Then he ran out.

Yancuo tried hard to follow his footsteps, and soon he was out of breath. Seeing that figure getting farther and farther away, Yancuo was a little anxious, and tried hard to adjust his breathing and keep up.

The boy soon reached the finish line and stood there waiting for her. Yan Cuo looked at his figure and seemed to have endless strength, running towards him with all her might.

When running towards the finish line, Yan Cuo's legs could hardly stop, and her body rushed forward habitually. He hurriedly grabbed her, and she fell into his arms.

The night breeze blew, and he saw the girl's slightly red face, her mouth slightly open, and a trace of sweat on her face. He was a little moved, and just stared at her steadily. Yancuo saw that he didn't move for a long time, and embarrassedly stood up and prepared to leave.

The boy finally realized what was happening, and the two of them just stood there, neither of them saying anything. After a while, Yu Muyang said, "We just finished running, let's walk a few laps before going back." Yan Cuo blankly replied, "Okay." The two of them walked around in silence, and Yan Cuo felt a little annoyed.

They had already expressed their feelings to each other. Although he was obviously happy, he still blushed easily at the slightest touch. The atmosphere was a bit awkward now. Yancuo was about to say something when he heard his voice faintly carried by the night wind: "Don't be nervous. I was the first to say that I liked you. I like you no matter what you look like. You never need to feel pressured. Instead, I should be the one feeling pressured. My girl is getting better and better, more and more beautiful. I should be worried about losing you. Those who are favored are always fearless. You are the one who is favored, Yanyan."
