Chapter 92 Heartache

The already noisy night became even more lively because of Su He's arrival. They played for a while, and then Zhong Hongmei came back from outside.

Su He hurried forward and said obediently, "Aunt, Happy New Year. I came to play with Yan Cuo."

Zhong Hongmei nodded and invited her in to eat. "I bought a lot of snacks. Take a look and see if there's anything you like. Have some. I'm going to bed first. I'm old and can't hold on any longer."

As he spoke, he yawned a few times, "Yancuo, you play with Su He, I'm going to sleep first, please keep your voices down."

They all agreed and squatted down. Su He carefully took out a piece of cake from her pocket and stuffed it into her mouth. Yan Cuo looked at her wolfing down the food and found it a little funny. "Aren't you full from the New Year's Eve dinner?"

She shook her head and said quite naturally, "It's been a long time since the New Year's Eve dinner. I'm already hungry. Can you help me get some more food? I'm sorry."

Yan Cuo looked at her helplessly, then stood up and said, "Wait."

She stared at Yan Cuo's departing figure, and only stood up when the figure started to walk back, looking a little anxious.

Yancuo took a handful of snacks and placed them in her hands, watching her eat them slowly like a little hamster, chewing non-stop and stuffing more into her mouth while eating. Soon her mouth became round and bulging. Yancuo went to get her a bottle of drink, opened it and handed it to her.

"Eat slowly, no one will snatch it from you."

Su He seemed to be choked. He drank a big mouthful of the drink in one breath. It took him a while to come to his senses. "Oh my god, I choked to death. Fortunately, you brought the drink. You are the best."

Yan Cuo looked at her teasingly, "I'm the best, what about Gu Xuran?"

Su He looked a little angry, as if she didn't want to mention him. "Don't say it, he really pissed me off. Today is New Year's Eve, and there's not a single phone call or text message."

"Maybe you're busy at home. I'll contact you later. Did you bring your phone? I'll call and ask."

Su He still looked annoyed. "I didn't bring my phone with me. Let him worry about it. He didn't even bother to contact me, leaving me to worry alone."

Yan Cuo looked at her helplessly, "My aunt, what if he looks for you again? Won't you make him worry? Maybe he'll rush over to look for you if he can't get through on the phone."

Su He still said stubbornly, "Then let him come." But his expression was no longer as angry as before. His face had recovered a little, and there was even some worry in it.

"If I can't get through to you, I'll probably call you. Do you have any missed calls on your phone?"

Yan Cuo walked into the house. His phone lay quietly on the table, with no missed calls. Su He felt even more disappointed, his face falling. "I knew he wasn't worried about me at all."

Yan Cuo was about to say a few words of comfort when Yu Muyang's phone suddenly rang. They all looked at him with anticipation. He picked up the phone, looked at the name on the screen, smiled at them, and then picked up the phone.

"You finally called. Do you know that Su He is extremely worried? I haven't contacted her all day. What have you been busy with?"

When Gu Xuran heard him say this, he knew that Su He was with them, and he felt relieved. His voice was a little hoarse, and he felt very tired. "My mother is sick. My father came today, and they had another quarrel. My mother went on a hunger strike all night. No matter how I tried to persuade her, it was useless. She fell asleep at night. I called Su He as soon as I had time, but no one answered her call. So I called you to try my luck."

Yu Muyang understood and laughed, "I'll give her the phone. You can talk to her. She was extremely anxious just now."

Gu Xuran thought about Su He's appearance at the moment, feeling both distressed and relieved. "Okay, give her the phone."

Yu Muyang handed the phone to Su He, but Su He was still a little uncomfortable and didn't want to answer it. "I don't want to answer his call. I don't care what he does."

Yan Cuo put the phone to her ear. She only heard his low voice coming from the other end of the line. It was a little hoarse and seemed full of fatigue. "Su Su."

He only said these two words, but they were enough to make her collapse. All her persistence and stubbornness disappeared at this moment, and she only remembered to care about the person in front of her.

"What's wrong with you? Why is your voice so hoarse? Do you have a cold?"

Listening to the girl's caring words, he smiled and said, "It's okay, I'm just a little tired and wanted to hear your voice. My mother is sick and I took care of her all day. She had a fight with my father today and is very fragile now. I'm worried about her, so I've been taking care of her all the time. I didn't mean to not contact you, don't be angry, okay?"

He explained quickly, as if he was afraid that the person on the other end of the phone would be angry. His voice was low and a little gentle, trying to soothe the girl's impatience at the moment.

Listening to his explanation, Su He no longer had any anger in her heart. She only felt distressed. She felt distressed for his filial piety and his difficulties. His family was special. His parents' countless quarrels hurt him.

And now he has to be responsible for comforting his fragile mother, which is too much on his shoulders.

"Have you had dinner?" After thinking it over, she finally asked this question. Hearing his hoarse voice, she couldn't help but feel anxious. She wanted to go to his side to see him and care about him more.

"I've eaten. I'm not hungry. Everything is fine. I don't feel uncomfortable." He said slowly with a smile.

"I just miss you." After a while, I only heard him whisper, his voice lingering, "I really miss you."

Su He had long been completely immersed in his gentle voice. "It's very late today. You should rest early. You still have to take care of Auntie tomorrow. Don't make yourself too tired. By the way, where is your family's previous housekeeper?"

"Give her a holiday during the Chinese New Year and let her go back."

She asked cautiously, "Gu Xuran, what's wrong with Auntie?"

Gu Xuran paused for a moment, so long that Su He thought he wouldn't answer. "If you don't want to talk about it, then I won't ask. I'm just asking casually. Don't think too much about it."

"Depression." His voice came from the other end of the phone. She felt her heart startled. His voice sounded helpless and sad.

"Is it serious?" She couldn't help but ask. Although she couldn't really help him, she still wanted to know more, at least to have one more person to give her advice.

"It's quite serious. She's been seeing many doctors and taking medication all the time. The cause of her illness is Gu Yao, my father. She was heartbroken by him, but she still loves him. Whether it was the obsession of her youth or the unrequited love of her middle age, she never stopped loving him. But how could she, such a proud person, let him see that? Her illness always only occurs after he's gone."
