Chapter 28: Troubles
"Han Que, I just want to ask, were you with Gu Ningwei that night?"
The call went through, and Lu Xiaoping mustered up the courage to say what was on his mind.
Han frowned, holding the phone and remained silent.
On the other end of the phone, there was Lu Xiaoping's heavy breathing and the crackling sound of electricity.
Han glanced at Yu Xiaoli beside him, biting his lip and considering.
Yu Xiaoli also heard their conversation. She unconsciously moved to the side, looking embarrassed and trying to make her presence disappear.
Han glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. Although she was not looking away, she was actually listening carefully.
So she evaded the main point and said, "Lu Xiaoping, do you know what you're talking about? Gu Ningwei is also your friend. He just dropped me off on the way home that day." After thinking for a moment, she reminded him, "I'm with some colleagues from the company right now, so I won't say much to you. Let's talk about it when we meet sometime. We can't explain it clearly right away."
Lu Xiaoping continued to ask, "So you're saying this never happened?"
His voice trembled slightly, unable to suppress the panic that showed through his voice.
Han, however, was moved by sympathy and softened his voice and said softly, "No."
Lu Xiaoping pressed again, "Do you promise?"
Han frowned. She didn't like being questioned like that. She lowered her voice and said, "I promise."
Lu Xiaoping didn't notice the change in her tone. He sighed and said, "Okay, let's meet and talk. I'll be back tomorrow."
"Yeah." Han said lightly and hung up the phone.
After a moment of silence, Yu Xiaoli smiled awkwardly, "Sister Han Que, I didn't mean to hear that. What I just said was..."
Han, however, managed a forced smile, "Yeah, it's okay, boyfriend, something went wrong."
Yu Xiaoli said "oh" and then asked tentatively, "Is it serious?"
Han nodded thoughtfully and sighed slightly, "It's pretty serious."
Yu Xiaoli comforted him, "If there's a misunderstanding, just explain it clearly. It won't be that serious."
Han smiled faintly, paused, and shook her head: "It's not because of a misunderstanding, and it's hard to explain..."
Yu Xiaoli nodded and asked, "Sister Han Que, is my Gang'er related to the Chunyi Company we just visited?"
Han pondered and did not answer.
Yu Xiaoli quickly explained, "Oh, I just heard Manager Chen vaguely mention it in the purchasing department... He was scolded by General Manager Xu for buying our goods, and he said he wanted to return them."
Han simply admitted: "Chunyi Company was introduced by my boyfriend. He is Xu Chun's godson. Now that my relationship with him has problems, it will naturally be affected. I may have to return the company."
Yu Xiaoli hummed and said regretfully, "Oh, that's quite troublesome. It will affect our department's performance."
She is a sales assistant and her bonus is based on the department's sales performance. If the products are really returned, her income will be affected, which makes her very worried.
Han, however, knew what was going on. She consoled him, "It has nothing to do with you. This happened before you were transferred to the sales department. Even if their bonus is deducted, it will be mine, not yours. Don't worry."
Yu Xiaoli finally breathed a sigh of relief, feeling relieved. However, she didn't want Han Que to notice, so she quickly smiled to hide her feelings. "Sister Han Que, I feel it's a pity for you too. You worked so hard to achieve your goals, but now this has happened. All your hard work has been wasted, and the bonus you received has even been deducted. Sigh..."
Han immediately said, "So, people can't take shortcuts. What's owed must be repaid."
A hint of disapproval flashed across Yu Xiaoli's eyes, but a smile appeared on her face and she nodded obediently in agreement.
Han saw it clearly and suddenly felt that it was very troublesome to bring an assistant with him. Not only would he have to follow him around to discuss big and small things, but he might even take the opportunity to gossip.
She couldn't help but start to weigh Jiang Jin's intentions in her heart.
She simply stopped talking and closed her eyes to pretend to be asleep.
After a while, the phone in her hand started vibrating again. She opened her eyes and saw the message from Gu Ningwei, asking her why she hadn't come back yet.
Han glanced at Yu Xiaoli beside him again and saw that she was also chatting on her phone, with an upturned corner of her mouth and an unconcealable excitement in her eyes.
Han felt annoyed and didn't reply.
Anyway, WeChat doesn’t have a read function, so Gu Ningwei didn’t know that she had already read it.
Unexpectedly, not long after, Gu Ningwei called directly and persistently on WeChat, his tone still nonchalant: "Han Que, why didn't you reply to my message? I wanted to ask what time you can arrive at the company?"
Han looked at Yu Xiaoli beside him and said helplessly, "We're almost there, about ten minutes left."
"Well, when you get there, tell me I'm in President Jiang's office," said Gu Ningwei.
"Okay." Han replied indifferently.
Gu Ningwei said with a smile, "Come back quickly! I'm almost fed up with your leader. Why is he so nagging and annoying? Haven't you noticed it before?"
Han was about to answer, but suddenly felt something was wrong and changed the subject, saying, "I don't know Mr. Jiang."
Gu Ningwei chuckled and didn't say anything else, but just told her to come back quickly.
After putting down the phone, Han was a little dazed. She didn't know what Gu Ningwei meant by that sudden question. Did he see through her previous relationship with Jiang Jin?
Han was still thinking when the online car-hailing vehicle arrived at the company gate. She got off the car while still thinking about this problem. She slipped and almost fell. Fortunately, Yu Xiaoli was quick and caught her.
"Don't think about it, Sister Han Que. At worst, we can just return the goods and find new customers." Yu Xiaoli comforted her.
Han returned to the office and did not rush to send a message to Gu Ningwei. She silently turned on the computer and entered the CR system to check the sales data from a few months ago.
She was calculating how much impact it would have on her performance and bonus if Chunyi Company wanted to return the products.
As a result, I didn’t know until I calculated it. I was still shocked when I did. I really had to pay a lot of money.
If she cannot find new clients in the next few months to fill this hole, she will have to receive basic salary for several months in a row, and the number of clients she has will be of no use at all.
She sighed heavily, dropped the mouse in her hand, leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.
Gu Ningwei was sitting in Jiang Jin's office chatting. The sound of their talking and laughing could be heard faintly from the door, and the laughter was particularly harsh.
"Ning Wei, I'm not saying anything bad about you, but you're wrong," Jiang Jin's voice came from inside. "I think Uncle Gu's idea is not wrong. The He family and yours are old friends, and He Lian and you are childhood sweethearts. It's not like you don't have any emotional foundation. With more interaction, maybe you can really cultivate feelings."
"Jiang Jin, you haven't officially entered our family yet, and you don't fully understand our family situation. Wait until you truly become Gu Ningli's husband and our son-in-law, and truly understand every aspect of this family, then you will be qualified to say these words to me." Gu Ningwei's voice was indifferent, even a little harsh.
The room was filled with smoke. They had been talking for a long time. Gu Ningwei was sitting on the sofa, holding an e-cigarette in his hand, puffing out clouds of smoke.
Jiang Jin sat across from him, his face awkward. He was silent for a long time before he said self-deprecatingly, "Forget it... I know your temper well. It's my own fault. I shouldn't have offended you. Just pretend I never said anything."
Gu Ningwei smiled casually. He knew that what he said just now had touched Jiang Jin's sore spot, but this was exactly his purpose.
He didn't like others pointing fingers at his life, not even Jiang Jin, although he knew that this might not be Jiang Jin's intention, and perhaps his father and uncle were behind it.
But he just felt bored.
"Okay, I won't chat with you anymore. I'll go see if Han Que has come back. I made an appointment with him to have lunch at the restaurant next door." Gu Ningwei patted his pants comfortably, stretched, and stood up.
Jiang Jin frowned, "You came to the company today just to treat Han Que to dinner?"
"Yeah, what else?" Gu Ningwei frowned and looked at him with a smile: "Do you think I came here to check your work and the company's performance? Am I just full and have nothing to do? When have you ever seen me so diligent?"
Jiang Jin lowered his head and said nothing.
Gu Ningwei had already walked to the door, his fingers gripping the door handle. He paused, then released the handle, turned around, and looked at Jiang Jin: "Go ahead, if you have any opinions, just say it. Don't look so stern at me."
Jiang Jin looked up and teased with a smile: "Mr. Gu, Boss Gu, I work for you, how dare I give you a hard time? But I think it's inappropriate for you to pick up girls in the company so blatantly. Rabbits don't eat grass near their burrows."
Gu Ningwei curled his lips and smiled, saying, "You think I'm just picking up girls instead of truly pursuing a girl? Then you're wrong. I think Han Que is quite good. She's beautiful and generous, capable and efficient, neither humble nor overbearing, and knows how to advance and retreat. She has so many advantages, don't you see?"
Jiang Jin: “…”
He was speechless for a moment and said lightly: "I don't know her."
Gu Ningwei stared at him sharply for a while. Jiang Jin felt guilty and tried to remain calm, saying, "Why are you staring at me? I'm not wrong. I've only been in charge of this company for a few days."
Gu Ningwei snorted.
Jiang Jin looked at his expression, said nothing more, and lowered his head to look at his toes.
Gu Ningwei is his friend and also his boss.
Seeing this, Gu Ningwei said with a smile, "Boss Jiang, didn't you just say that I don't care about the work? Well, I'm going to point out your problem now."
"You say." Jiang Jin changed his tone to a respectful one, becoming an obedient subordinate.
"You need to care more about your employees and change your attitude towards them. Don't be condescending. They are living beings, not cold numbers in your investment bank reports."
Seeing this, Jiang Jin knew that he was really angry and quickly admitted his mistake: "Yes, I didn't do my job well, but I also want to be responsible for you, so I advised you this way."
"I don't need you to be responsible. There are too many people responsible for me. You can make a difference." Gu Ningwei still had a smile on his face and turned to leave.
Jiang Jin whispered behind him, "But, for rich and powerful young masters like you, of course you can do whatever you want, but have you ever thought that this fruitless pursuit will ultimately sacrifice the girl's reputation?"
Gu Ningwei's back stiffened slightly and his steps paused, but he still opened the door and walked out without looking back.
As soon as I opened the door, I met Han Que who was holding a notebook and preparing to knock on the door.
