Chapter 69 Response

Chapter 69 Response

Gu Ningwei heard the movement behind him and turned around. Seeing that it was Han Que, he was slightly startled, then smiled and said, "Didn't you ask for leave? Why are you here again?"

Han frowned and said nothing. The room was filled with smoke, which made it choking. He really didn't know how much they had smoked.

She walked to the window and opened it for ventilation. A gust of wind blew in, dispersing the smoke in the conference room and blowing the documents on the table all over the floor.

She bent down to pick up the scattered papers, took a look at them, clipped them together, neatly arranged them in a folder, and pressed them down with an ashtray.

"How's Mom?" Gu Ningwei walked over from the window and put out his cigarette in the ashtray. "Did the paperwork go smoothly today?"

Han was slightly startled, looked up at him in confusion, and asked, "Hey? How did you know that I went to handle the paperwork for my mother today? I don't think I told you."

Gu Ningwei realized he had let something slip, and he put his hollow fist against his jaw, smiling and covering it up. "Why would a workaholic like you need to take time off? It's all for your mother. I heard you went to the hospital."

Han nodded, "I was transferred to the rehabilitation center today."

"Is everything going well?"

Han nodded: "Forget it."

Gu Ningwei walked towards her, put his arm around her waist, and rubbed his eyebrows with his other hand.

"Will it go badly?" Han glanced at his slightly furrowed brows and asked in a low voice.

Gu Ningwei had his back to the setting sun, which shone in from the window behind him, outlining his tall and straight figure and half-concealing the expression in his eyes and eyebrows.

Gu Ningwei responded calmly, rubbing his brows, and said, "Wang Jianan refused to admit his mistake and threatened to take everyone in the R&D department away."

"Did he really say that?" Han scoffed. "It's not certain that anyone would be willing to follow him. Everyone in the R&D department knows his character. Who would be willing to follow a boss like that?"

Gu Ningwei was silent and thoughtful for a long time, then shook his head gently, "Not necessarily."

"Why not?" Han hurried to comfort him, "You don't know what Mr. Wang is like. Even though he's been in charge of the R&D department for many years, no one in the department has a good word for him. He's always mean to his subordinates, and everyone has said bad things about him behind his back. It won't be easy for him to take people away."

"Many people in the workplace are driven by profit." Gu Ningwei smiled suddenly and looked at Han Que and said, "Although Wang Jianan's character is not good, he has been working in the R&D department of Zhening Biotechnology Company for many years. He has been controlling the company for so long and has been planning this day for a long time. He won't rashly turn against us until the time is right. After all, he graduated from Tsinghua University and is not a fool."

"So what if he graduated from Tsinghua University? His stuff is out of date now." Han muttered.

She has recently read a lot of the latest literature and can evaluate the company's R&D results from a professional perspective.

Gu Ningwei pursed his lips and said nothing.

Wang Jianan had seized the opportunity. Chengguang Group was now in financial trouble, struggling to cope. The Gu family was considering a marriage alliance to help them out, but they were unaware of Gu Ningwei's alleged support for Han Que. With the prospect of a potential business marriage on the verge of collapse, Chengguang's impending collapse made Gu Ningwei's original promise to take Zhening public, which he had promised at the time of the acquisition, seem impossible. If he didn't act now, would he wait for Gu Ningwei to discover the situation and deprive him of control over the R&D department?

Gu Ningwei certainly knew what Wang Jianan was thinking. Moreover, others could not see the significance of him transferring Han Que to his side, but Wang Jianan must have understood it. He was very sensitive to matters involving his profession, and he was also aware that Han Que was studying biology.

Gu Ningwei pondered for a moment, paused, and then said, "It's my fault. I started preparing too late."

He pulled Han Que over, reached out and gently brushed her scattered hair, and tapped her nose: "It's also your fault. You dilly-dallyed and didn't even want to come to my side at that time, wasting time."

"You are really a weirdo. What does it have to do with me?" Han Que scolded him, but she understood a little in her heart. It turned out that Jiang Jin was eager to transfer her to the R&D department, which might actually be Gu Ningwei's idea, but later he gave up the possibility of adjusting her from within the R&D department.

"Was it your idea when Jiang Jin wanted to transfer me to the R&D department at that time?" Han Que asked Gu Ningwei again.

She was trying to prove something, but she couldn't really explain it.

"Do you think you wronged Jiang Jin at that time?" Gu Ningwei glanced at her and said with a smile, "Well, I had such an idea at that time. I wanted to transfer you to the R&D department and train you slowly. But on the one hand, you didn't want to. On the other hand, I also felt that based on your position in the company at that time, you were no match for Wang Jianan. Not only would you be useless if you went there, but you would also be bullied by him. With your temper, you might resign in anger. Then I would lose more than I gain." Gu Ningwei smiled.

Han felt relieved, but snorted in mock anger, "It's good that you know. It's a pity that you didn't force me to transfer over there. If you did, I might have quit immediately."

"That's why I don't dare. You can stay wherever you want, as long as you don't slip away from under my nose." Gu Ningwei pinched her cheek and threatened her half-jokingly and half-seriously: "Do you hear me? No matter what happens, don't disappear from my sight."

After a pause, he lowered his eyes and stared into hers, and said solemnly, "You have to believe me, there will always be a way to solve the problem."

Han, however, felt guilty. She lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly. She turned her face away from his gaze and changed the subject, "What are you going to do about Teacher Wang?"

"Let's take legal action if necessary. What else can we do? As for the staffing of the R&D department, some turmoil is inevitable at this stage." Gu Ningwei released his hand and slowly paced around the room.

He smiled helplessly, but Han was unaware that Xiao Mei had arrived just half an hour before her, bearing seven or eight resignation letters from R&D staff. These were all senior researchers who had worked with Wang Jianan for years, key members of the R&D department. Each of them held significant unfinished projects funded by the company. The basic status of these projects, as well as their subsequent development progress, were in the hands of the individuals involved and Wang Jianan, leaving them completely unaware. If they were taken away for further development, the legal ownership would be unclear, and Zhening would be unable to sue, so he could only consider himself unlucky.

Li Zhekai was so angry that he gritted his teeth and cursed Wang Jianan as an ungrateful villain. Gu Ningwei didn't say anything.

Because it was too late to say anything, and Xiao Mei had found out the news.

"Director Xiao, have you interviewed these people? What are the reasons for their resignation?" Gu Ningwei asked Xiao Mei calmly.

Xiao Mei sighed and said with embarrassment, "Oh, Mr. Gu, I've talked to them one by one, but I can't persuade them. Some say they want to go back to their hometown to work, some say their parents are in poor health and they need to go back to take care of them, and some say they have been separated for a long time and want to go back to have children. What can I say about these reasons? I can't just stop couples from reuniting and having children, right?"

As she spoke, she laughed again, a smug look flashing in her eyes.

Gu Ningwei continued, "Oh, then you didn't ask them if they were going to go out with Wang Jianan?"

"Ah? Teacher Wang is leaving?" Xiao Mei's eyes widened in feigned surprise, then she gave Gu Ningwei a charming smile: "Is this true? Teacher Wang has been in the company for so many years and is a veteran. How could he just leave like that? I can't believe it."

"Yes, Mr. Wang is one of the company's shareholders and holds the company's core R&D secrets. His position in the company is unmatched. I can't understand why he suddenly wants to leave." Gu Ningwei smiled slightly and looked at Xiao Mei. "Does Director Xiao know what's going on?"

"Me? You're asking me?" Xiao Mei was stunned for a moment, looking embarrassed. She forced a smile and mumbled, "How would I know what's going on? I'm not very familiar with Teacher Wang."

"Oh, so you are not familiar with Wang Jianan." Gu Ningwei acted as if he suddenly realized something. He looked at Xiao Mei, raised his eyebrows slightly, and nodded.

"Well, we don't have any business overlap, so we're not very familiar with each other." Xiao Mei knew there was something else behind his words, so she quickly stood up and prepared to slip away. "If Mr. Gu and Mr. Li don't have anything else to say, I'll go downstairs first. You could leave these resignation letters with me first. I'll talk to them one by one and try to persuade them to stay."

"Yes, just do the work if you can. They are all talents and backbones cultivated by the company over the years. We can't let them go like this." Li Zhekai nodded.

"Okay, I'll go talk to her again." Xiao Mei nodded and walked to the door.

"Wait." Gu Ningwei stopped her and held out his hand: "Give it to me."

"What?" Xiao Mei was puzzled.

"Resignation report."

"Huh?" Xiao Mei looked at Li Zhekai in confusion, but involuntarily handed the resignation reports in her hand to Gu Ningwei.

Gu Ningwei took it and quickly glanced through it. He picked up the pen on the table and quickly signed the report. Then he handed it to Xiao Mei, "You arrange for them to complete the handover procedures. The sooner the better."

"Ah? Mr. Gu, what are you doing?" Xiao Mei widened her eyes in surprise. She was ordered by Wang Jianan to test Gu Ningwei's attitude and see if he was really as tough as he appeared. Wang Jianan said that since he was such an uneducated playboy, he was a bit harsh in his words, but seeing that the R&D department was about to become an empty shell, he would have thought about it. Who knew that he signed the contract on the spot without saying a word.

"Please notify the R&D department that from today onwards, if you want to resign, please complete the formalities as soon as possible and complete the handover within a week. I will send someone to hand over." Gu Ningwei said calmly.

Xiao Mei stared at him in astonishment, caught off guard by his instructions. She turned back to look at Li Zhekai: "Boss Li, what about me?"

"Boss Gu, what are you doing?" Li Zhekai looked at Gu Ningwei in surprise. Gu Ningwei gave him a calming look. Li Zhekai understood what was going on and nodded. "Then let's do as Boss Gu wishes. If you want to leave, go ahead. You can't stop someone who's determined to leave."

Xiao Mei nodded and walked out of the meeting room. The moment she closed the door, she snorted coldly, walked away in her high heels with her back straight, and even ignored Director Pan who greeted her.

"So you're letting everyone go?" Seeing Gu Ningwei nod, Han asked again, "Who will take over the daily work of the R&D department? And what about those ongoing projects? They refuse to hand them over properly. What are you going to do?"

"You. I just need you." Gu Ningwei tapped her nose. "With you here, what do I have to fear?"

"Me?" Han's eyes widened in surprise. "Are you kidding me?"

"Yes, you." Gu Ningwei said firmly: "I'm not kidding."
