Chapter 234 An Encounter with Lai Xiang

Tang Yue planned to visit Lai Xiang at the department store after finding a place to live; they hadn't seen each other in a long time. Now that she was in Beijing, she was definitely going to have a good chat with Lai Xiang.

After mailing her letter, Lai Xiang left the post office, intending to grab a bite to eat before heading back to work at the department store. Just as she passed a small alley, two figures, one tall and one short, emerged from it. Lai Xiang, not initially paying attention, was about to walk past them.

"Sister Lai?"

The soft, sweet voice stirred up Lai Xiang's memories. She turned her head in surprise and saw Tang Shengkai holding Tang Yue's hand and walking towards her.

"Little Yueyue? Uncle Tang? What are you doing here?"

Lai Xiang was overjoyed, her face beaming with smiles. She quickly walked a few steps into the alley, took Tang Yue's small hand, and Tang Yue quickly returned the gesture by squeezing Lai Xiang's hands in return.

"Sister Lai, aren't you at work today? I was planning to go to the department store to find you later."

Lai Xiang was even happier to hear that. "Sure, but since Xiao Yueyue is here, I'll go back and ask for leave in a bit. Xiao Yueyue has finally come to the capital, so I'll definitely show you around."

Tang Yue smiled, "Sister Lai, no need. I'm happy just to see you. But Dad and I have things to do this afternoon, so you can go to work. Is it your break time now? Sister Lai, let me treat you to lunch."

"Haha, okay. Come on, Yueyue, there's a nice state-run restaurant up ahead. Let's go eat there."

Tang Shengkai was completely relegated to the background. But his daughter's happiness made him happy too. It was rare to see his daughter smile so joyfully. Sigh, it was all because of his family that his daughter was being dragged down.

The food at the state-run restaurant was quite good today; there was braised pork, stir-fried eggplant, and cold shredded potato salad. Lai Xiang ordered two servings of each, and then it was time to pay.

Several grain coupons and money were extended from her lower right side.

"Sister Lai, you promised to treat me to dinner today."

Lai Xiang... "Hehe, Little Yueyue, you've come to the capital. How can I let you pay? Here's what we'll do: you treat, and I'll pay."

Tang Yue shook her head; her small hands were surprisingly strong, and Lai Xiang couldn't push her away.

The waiter at the state-run restaurant was getting impatient and snatched the tickets and money from Tang Yue's hand. "It doesn't matter who pays. Just come back next time."

After finishing speaking and giving the change, he handed it to Tang Yue. Tang Yue smiled. Lai Xiang was quite helpless.

She wanted to give the money and tickets to Tang Yue, but she was afraid that Tang Yue would be angry.

Tang Shengkai and Lai Xiang placed the food on a table, and the group sat down.

"Sister Lai, let me tell you, I'm a company commander now, and I get a salary every month."

Lai Xiang knew she had a salary, but Xiao Yueyue was still just a child. "Okay, I know. Xiao Yueyue, why did you and Uncle Tang come to Beijing?"

As Lai Xiang was asking her questions, two more people entered through the door. Seeing Lai Xiang smiling and talking to a little girl, the newcomers exclaimed in surprise, "Lai Xiang!"
