Chapter 235 Lai Xiang is misunderstood

235

Wu Jinghui didn't go to work today. Nie Qianwen went out for a stroll for half the morning and came home at noon. "Mom, I heard that the state-run restaurant is having braised pork for lunch today. Shall we go and eat it? We can also bring some back for Dad to eat tonight."

"You, all you ever think about is food."

Nie Qianwen went over and acted coquettishly, pulling on Wu Jinghui's arm and shaking it repeatedly, "Mom, let's go!"

Wu Jinghui had no choice but to agree after being pestered by her daughter.

As soon as the two entered, they saw Lai Xiang chatting enthusiastically with a young girl, next to whom sat a handsome-looking man. Wu Jinghui frowned. Lai Xiang was already 19 years old, and she had introduced her to several potential partners, but Lai Xiang always made excuses not to go.

Could it be that she's taken a fancy to this divorced man?

Wu Jinghui was immediately displeased. After all, Lai Xiang was her niece, and her family background was quite good. She couldn't let this divorced man take a liking to her. Seeing that the man was wearing a green military uniform, she figured he knew Lai Xiang's identity and was deliberately trying to curry favor with her.

When she got angry, she spoke harshly, "Lai Xiang!"

Lai Xiang was excitedly asking Tang Yue why she had come to Beijing when she heard someone angrily calling her name. Looking up, she saw her aunt and cousin standing at the restaurant entrance, staring at her.

The aunt's anger was impossible to hide, while Nie Qianwen looked at Xiao Yueyue and Uncle Tang with some curiosity.

Lai Xiang stood up. "Auntie, Wenwen, come and eat too."

Wu Jinghui walked to the table. "If I hadn't come out today, I wouldn't have known what you were doing."

Lai Xiang was completely confused. "Auntie, what are you talking about? I don't understand. What did I do?"

When Wu Jinghui saw that Lai Xiang still refused to admit it, she became even angrier. However, this was a state-run restaurant, and there were many people talking. After all, her family was a respectable family, and she couldn't let others laugh at her.

"Come out with me."

Lai Xiang glanced at Wu Jinghui, then at Tang Yue, gave Tang Yue a reassuring look, and followed her out.

After leaving the restaurant, we found an empty space where no one was around. "Lai Xiang, no wonder you didn't like any of the men I introduced you to. What? You've taken a fancy to a divorced man with a child?"

Lai Xiang's eyes widened in shock. Just as she opened her mouth, Wu Jinghui continued, "Lai Xiang, let me tell you, I don't agree. Not to mention me, even your mother wouldn't agree."

Lai Xiang, you grew up in a military compound, how can your judgment be so poor? Who could fool you with just a few kind words? You really are…”

"Enough!"

Lai Xiang couldn't bear to listen anymore, a wave of sorrow washing over her. If this were her own mother, would she so readily and indiscriminately accuse her daughter of wrongdoing?

It seems she really can't stay at her aunt's house any longer.

Seeing Lai Xiang's somewhat angry rebuke, Wu Jinghui's anger flared even more. "What? Am I wrong for doing this for your own good? I'll support you..."

"Auntie, you want to support me? I give you money every month, and my mom gives you 500 yuan every year. Auntie, do you think I can live off 500 yuan a year? Also, Auntie, have you asked me who lives in my house?"

You started by randomly labeling me; have you ever respected me?

Wu Jinghui had never seen Lai Xiang like this before. It was as if her obedient and well-behaved niece had suddenly disappeared. The girl in front of her was sharp and ruthless, with cold eyes, as if she could see right through her.

“Auntie, the people inside are Xiaoyueyue and her father. I just met them on the street and we didn’t even exchange a few words. But in your eyes, it’s like I’m going to marry them.”

Wu Jinghui's eyes widened, and she felt a little guilty. She hadn't expected it to be like this, but she couldn't bring herself to apologize to a junior.

"Cousin, how can you talk to my mom like that? My mom is only doing this for your own good. She's afraid you might make a mistake. What did my mom do wrong? Why are you talking to her like that?"

Lai Xiang didn't want to deal with the mother and daughter right now. "Auntie, I'll go back now if there's nothing else."

After finishing her speech, she went straight into the restaurant. Tang Yue sat in a chair inside and watched the entire conversation. She never expected that she and her father would cause trouble for Sister Lai.

Lai Xiang composed herself and sat down. "Xiao Yueyue, Uncle Tang, let's eat. It won't taste good if it gets cold."

Tang Yue smiled and nodded. They chatted for a few more minutes, but Lai Xiang was clearly upset. After the meal, Tang Yue excused herself, saying she had something to do, and parted ways with Lai Xiang. However, Tang Yue promised Lai Xiang that she would come to visit her again in a few days.

Tang Shengkai had good hearing, but the state-run restaurant was too noisy, so he didn't hear what Lai Xiang and Wu Jinghui were talking about outside. However, he could tell that the girl was unhappy when she came back.

"Honey, have we caused trouble for your friend?"

Tang Yue thought about it and realized it was true. But Lai's aunt really had a vivid imagination; her father must be at least 30 years old, right?

Tang Yue looked up at her father. Huh? How come her father looks so young now, like a young man in his mid-twenties? Ah, no wonder. Tang Yue shook her head.

"Okay, Dad, I'll go out by myself next time. There aren't many benefits to bringing Dad along."

Tang Shengkai objected, "Hey? You little brat, are you looking down on your old man?" He then bent down and scratched Tang Yue's armpit.

Tang Yue was indeed ticklish. "Haha, Dad, no, no." She said, taking a few steps forward to distance herself from Tang Shengkai.

She didn't mention Wu Jinghui's misunderstanding, to avoid embarrassment for her father and Sister Lai when they met later. She had observed that people of this generation were generally quite simple and honest, especially when it came to relationships between men and women, they were very cautious.
