"Oh dear, you'd better hurry up. If we can't buy tickets to the South Island later, we'll have to stay another day and spend more money."
Tang Shengkai and Tang Yue looked toward the source of the voice at the same time and saw Uncle Xu Er leading his grandson Xu Zhiwei toward the exit.
The father and daughter exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with surprise and delight. They hadn't misheard; they had indeed heard each other correctly—they had said they were going to the South Island. What for? To visit them, of course.
The two men called out in unison to the grandfather and grandson, "Second Uncle Xu!"
"Grandpa Xu!"
Uncle Xu and Xu Zhiwei felt as if someone was calling them (his grandfather), but neither of them turned around. It was impossible; this was Kyoto, and they didn't know anyone there. Who would be calling them?
They must have gone to someone else. The two continued walking towards the exit; they needed to hurry and buy tickets, as tickets were incredibly difficult to obtain these days. They weren't even available every day; they'd heard there were tickets available today, but if they missed them, they'd have to wait several more days.
Uncle Xu was very reluctant to part with the little money he had left.
Seeing that the grandfather and grandson showed no signs of stopping, Tang Yue and Tang Shengkai ran straight towards them. Tang Shengkai grabbed Uncle Xu's arm, startling Uncle Xu, who cried out, "Ouch!"
He quickly pulled his arm back, thinking he was being robbed. When he turned around and saw it was Tang Shengkai, the shock on his face was so great that no one could ignore it.
"Victory, Victory?"
"Second Uncle, what brings you to Kyoto?"
The two spoke at the same time, their faces then beaming with delight.
Before the two could continue speaking, Xu Zhiwei and Tang Yue looked at each other at the same time. Xu Zhiwei looked down at Tang Yue and said, "Oh my, you ugly girl seems to have become more beautiful, but why are you still so short?"
Tang Yue...
Her good mood at seeing her hometown relatives vanished instantly. Very well, Xu Zhiwei, she remembered. This wasn't the first time he'd looked down on her like this. Especially since he'd also said she was short.
Uncle Xu slapped Xu Zhiwei on the head and said, "You kid, I really don't know what your mouth is for."
Tang Yue... Hehe, it's the same old formula.
Xu Zhiwei was already used to his grandfather's sharp taps on the head and didn't feel any pain. He even looked at Tang Yue with a grin and said, "Ugly freak, weren't you in the South Island? How come you're in Kyoto?"
"Oh, if that's the case, we'll have to skip several train journeys. I haven't had enough yet."
Tang Yue really didn't know how to describe Xu Zhiwei. That old green train was packed with people, and the smell was unbearable. Yet Xu Zhiwei acted like he'd struck gold.
Tang Shengkai finally managed to get a word in edgewise, "Second Uncle, what brings you all here?"
Uncle Xu had looked Tang Shengkai and Tang Yue over several times. Seeing that the two were in excellent spirits, and that Shengkai looked even younger than when he was at home, he felt relieved.
"Hey, we haven't heard from you since you left, and we don't know how you're doing. We're always thinking about you. Now that the weather's warmer, I was thinking of going to the South Island to visit you."
"It's a good opportunity to bring this brat out to broaden his horizons. I didn't expect you guys to be in Kyoto. What? Didn't you go to the South Island? If so, it's lucky we ran into each other here, otherwise my son and I would have made a wasted trip."
Tang Shengkai had no idea when Uncle Xu had developed such a talkative nature.
"No, Second Uncle, we are indeed in the Southern Island. We came to Kyoto on business..."
Seeing that her father was about to continue chatting with Grandpa Xu, Tang Yue quickly interrupted him.
"Dad, let's take Grandpa Xu home first. We can have a proper chat after he's settled in."
Tang Shengkai then realized, "Haha, that's right, look, I was so excited I forgot. Come on, Second Uncle, you guys come with me first, and we'll go back together when I return to South Island."
Now that he had seen the person, Uncle Xu was no longer in a hurry. He figured he could deal with the rest later and was ready to follow Tang Shengkai.
His hand was held by his grandson, and Uncle Xu looked down and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Grandpa, what about Uncle Qian San?"
Uncle Xu slapped his forehead. "Oh dear, I completely forgot about that."
Uncle Xu looked around and saw Qian Xing standing not far from them, carrying a suitcase and smiling at them. He quickly waved and said, "Hey, Xingzi, come here quickly. Your Tang San brother is here."
Tang Shengkai and Tang Yue then noticed the person standing there. The train station was bustling with people, and Tang Yue usually wouldn't pay much attention to strangers. Besides, she didn't know this Qian Xing at all.
Qian Xing carried his luggage over, smiled at Tang Shengkai, and said, "Third Brother Tang, so you're in the capital."
Tang Shengkai was even more surprised, "Xingzi, why did you come along too?"
Uncle Xu tugged at Tang Shengkai's hand. "Let's go first. I'll talk to you on the way."
Tang Shengkai felt the same way, so he called the group to leave, completely forgetting about Chang Yin's existence.
Once outside the train station, Tang Shengkai suddenly remembered, "Daughter, where's your battalion commander?"
Tang Yue turned around and pointed at Chang Yin. Chang Yin stepped forward, and Tang Shengkai smiled at Chang Yin apologetically, "Second Uncle Xu, Xingzi, I forgot to introduce you. This is Yueyue's battalion commander, Battalion Commander Chang."
Let's go back together.
Before Uncle Xu could even greet him, Xu Zhiwei's voice rose several octaves, "Wow, this battalion commander is really handsome! Are all soldiers this good-looking? I want to join the army too!"
"Uncle Qian, look! You'll become this handsome when you join the army!"
