As he spoke, he angrily rolled over on the bed, forcefully pulled the blanket over most of his body.
Seemingly still not satisfied, Ke Qiangbang snorted coldly, his voice squeezed out from deep within his nasal cavity, full of disdain: "Hmph, she must be hiding in a very secluded place, just in case we find her."
I think she's just getting senile. Even at this age, she's still clinging to those things. Doesn't she realize that her husband isn't home? Can she really keep them all by herself?
It would have been better to take it out sooner so that our sons could enjoy some comfort. But instead, she treats us like thieves, guarding against us like that. It's infuriating!
As he spoke, he slammed his hand on the bedside table, causing the teacups on it to rattle and make a crisp sound.
Li Ruyun gently patted Ke Qiangbang on the back, "It's alright, don't be angry. You're the second child anyway, so you're not valued at home. Now that we both know that, why are you still angry?"
Do you think it's possible that the old lady actually divided those things among the first and third wives a long time ago?
Ke Qiangbang sat up abruptly, his gaze fixed on Li Ruyun in the darkness. "Are you telling the truth? If so, I'll definitely kill the old lady."
Li Ruyun sat up as well. "Why are you so angry? I was just saying. But actually, it's possible. After all, the old lady always feels indebted to the eldest son, and the third son is the youngest. The older generation always favors the younger ones."
In the end, it's those of us who are stuck in the middle who suffer the most.
Ke Qiangbang immediately got up to put on his clothes. "No, I have to go to the eldest son's house and ask the old lady right now. What if she really did that?"
“No, you can’t go. We absolutely cannot let the old lady come here,” Li Ruyun replied, her voice still gentle, yet filled with unwavering resolve.
Seemingly realizing she had said something inappropriate, she slightly adjusted her body, pulled the blanket up to cover her knees, and wore a helpless yet aggrieved expression.
"Bangzi, don't misunderstand. I didn't mean anything by it. Besides, we're only guessing where the thing is right now. We don't have any evidence, do we? If you go over there, you'll just alert them."
Speaking of Mom, if she comes, she'll eat our food, use our things, and we'll have to serve her. Do you think anyone in our family is free? We don't have that much free time to waste serving her.
Besides, what if she takes the things out one day and gives them all to the eldest and third sons? In the end, we won't get anything and we'll be the ones serving her. We'll be at a huge loss. I mean, you'll suffer all the injustices.
You say we went through so much trouble to find those things, why do they get all the benefits in the end?
So, no, we absolutely can't let the old lady move in. Bangzi, you have to be careful, we can't let her take advantage of us, can we?
She gently tugged at Ke Qiangbang's arm, her eyes filled with anticipation for his response.
Ke Qiangbang lay back and looked at the ceiling. He sighed on the bed, his tone hesitant: "Sigh, I don't want her to come either, but she is my mother after all. If we really ignore her, people will gossip about us."
How can we hold our heads high in this workplace? Our colleagues will be gossiping behind our backs, and we'll lose face."
He frowned, crossed his hands behind his head, and his eyes revealed a hint of struggle.
"It shouldn't be anything, right?" Li Ruyun said dismissively, a cold smile appearing on her face. However, the cold smile was fleeting, and she quickly put on her gentle expression again.
She leaned closer to Ke Qiangbang and whispered, "They say a kind father breeds filial sons. Tell me, which of your three sons did the old lady treat the worst? The neighbors all saw it. You can't just take the old lady's word for everything, can you?"
Besides, she's comfortable staying at the eldest son's house; she probably wouldn't even think of coming here. If she did come, it would definitely be to exploit us. Bangzi, raising three children is already difficult enough.
"If the old lady comes here, we'll really have no way to make ends meet." As she spoke, she gently traced Ke Qiangbang's chest with her finger, trying to persuade him.
Ke Qiangbang, perhaps unable to resist the temptation, lowered his voice, "Don't worry, I will absolutely not let her come to live with us. She doesn't even think about giving me her things, so why should she come and make me support her? I'd be merciful if I didn't kill her."
Upon hearing this, Liu Ting's body trembled violently, and tears streamed down her face like a burst dam.
She never imagined that the son she had raised with such hardship would now scheme against her with his wife. Those seemingly gentle but cold and piercing words were like sharp knives, stabbing straight into her heart.
Tang Yue's eyes grew even colder; she had never been so angry before. She clenched her fists tightly, her knuckles turning white from the force, feeling utterly contemptuous of the couple's behavior.
Liu Ting took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. Suppressing her grief, she gently pushed Tang Yue's hand away and said in a trembling voice:
"Child, let's go, I've heard enough."
Tang Yue felt a pang of pain in her heart when she saw Liu Ting's heartbroken appearance. She nodded, her eyes full of sympathy, and slowly led Liu Ting away from this chilling place.
Liu Ting walked the street like a zombie. The precious girl she held in her hands had now uttered such cold words as threatening to kill her, sending chills down her spine. She realized the depths of human evil. She was, after all, his own mother who had given him life and raised him; how could he say such a thing?
