Chapter 19 Visiting Kogoro Mouri

At noon, without Shinichi Kudo as a third wheel, Ran, Sonoko, and Kusunoki sat together under the big, thick tree for lunch, just like yesterday.

Sonoko's bento box was exceptionally lavish today, much more than usual. Then, Sonoko kept stuffing all sorts of delicious food into Hanyu Nan's lunchbox. When she realized that her own bento box was almost empty, Sonoko didn't hesitate to turn her evil clutches towards Ran.

"The garden!"

Xiaolan exclaimed in surprise as she dodged the chopsticks that Yuanzi reached out to her.

Seeing that there was no hope of getting food, Sonoko simply leaped forward and pounced on Ran, hugging her tightly and pleading with a smile on her face:

"Oh, Xiaolan, give me a little bit to eat, just a tiny bit. Can you really bear to see your best friend go hungry?"

Faced with Sonoko's shameless behavior, Ran was helpless. She gently tapped Sonoko's forehead, and as the latter pretended to be in pain and clutched her head, Ran then gave her some of her bento box.

Having received the food, Sonoko immediately sat back down contentedly and proudly showed off to Hanyu Nan:

"Ta-da! Nan, look! This is a bento box made by Xiaolan herself! It looks and smells delicious!" She said, winking at Xiaolan.

Seeing Yuzuru eating his bento box and watching the two of them bickering with a big smile, Ran smiled shyly and then shared some of her bento box with Yuzuru.

Yuzuru accepted the offer without hesitation.

Yuzuru knew that if he wanted Ran to leave Shinichi Kudo, the first task was to make Ran feel disappointed in Shinichi Kudo.

However, achieving this goal will not be easy; it will require time and a series of disappointments for Xiaolan.

Yuzuru was pondering these questions in his heart, while handing the bento that Sonoko had shared with him to the two of them.

The three sat together, eating and chatting, their laughter filling the air.

...

"Xiao Lan, Nan, see you tomorrow!"

As soon as the school bell rang, Yuanzi slowly packed her schoolbag and prepared to go home.

The Suzuki family held a family gathering today, so Sonoko had to go home early. She reluctantly said goodbye to the two of them and promised to go out together tomorrow.

After watching Sonoko leave, only Ran and Yuzuru walked side by side on their way home.

Yuzuru noticed that Ran seemed to be in a low mood since the afternoon, so he took the initiative to ask her:

"What's wrong, Xiaolan? I noticed you've been in a bad mood ever since you went out to take a phone call this afternoon. Did something happen?"

Upon hearing Yuzuru's words, Xiaolan simply lowered her head, shook it slightly, and said softly, "It's nothing." Her voice was somewhat downcast, as if she didn't want to talk about it further.

With his arms crossed behind his head, Yuzuru walked side by side with Ran. Turning his head to look at Ran, he said earnestly:

"If you're unhappy about anything, just say it. We're friends, after all. You should learn to confide in your friends, whether it's something happy or sad. If we face it together, we can always find a solution."

Hearing Yuzuru's words, Ran seemed to have found an outlet. She stopped, looked up into the distance, and said in a low voice:

"Shinichi called me this afternoon. He said someone asked him to handle a very difficult matter, and he can't come back until it's finished." Xiaolan's eyes revealed a hint of worry and disappointment.

"Shinichi has no idea how worried I am about him! Why couldn't he tell me if something happened? At least let me know if he's safe..."

Xiaolan became more and more agitated as she spoke, her voice unconsciously rising several octaves. She clenched her fists and waved them a few times, as if she wanted to vent all her dissatisfaction.

Yuzuru listened silently to Ran's story, then gently patted her shoulder to comfort her.

"Kudo-kun, what you did was really too much! No matter what happened, as long as you are safe, you should let everyone know that you are safe. How could you let your childhood friend worry about you?"

After saying that, Yuzuru turned to Ran and said, "Ran, don't worry. When Kudo-kun comes back, I'll teach him a lesson for you!"

However, Shinichi Kudo may never come back... But it's okay, there's still Conan. Conan can take his place. Anyway, they are the same person, so there's no difference.

"Forget it, I don't want to deal with him anymore. Shinichi is always like this!" Ran said indignantly.

"Ran, don't be too angry. I'm going to visit Uncle Mori later to learn from the famous detective. I hope to taste your cooking skills then."

"Ah, Nan, you're coming to visit Dad? I need to go back and tell him so he can make preparations."

"No need for that. I mainly wanted to try your cooking, Xiaolan, since your bento boxes are always so delicious."

"Hehe, not at all, just average."

...

Since we're going to visit the Mouri Detective Agency, we should definitely prepare some gifts for Kogoro Mouri to leave a good impression.

After selecting a few bottles of good wine from the supermarket, since Kogoro's favorite thing is to drink, Hanyu Nan picked out the gifts and then went to the Mouri Detective Agency with them.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

People knock three times, ghosts knock four times. After knocking three times, Yu Shengnan said, "Excuse me," and stood quietly at the door waiting.

"Wait a minute, Dad, we have a guest. Go open the door quickly."

From inside came Xiaolan's voice urging her father to open the door.

Kogoro Mori lay sprawled on the sofa in his room, a beer in his hand, his eyes glazed over as he watched the horse race on the television screen. He sipped his beer slowly, listlessly flipping through channels, seemingly uninterested in anything.

Hearing Ran's anxious calls, Kogoro Mouri reluctantly sat up, staggered towards the door, and muttered to himself:

"Okay, okay, I'm coming..."

When he opened the door, a handsome man with a smile on his face, carrying things in both hands, was standing straight in the doorway.

Kogoro Mouri narrowed his eyes, looking the strange man up and down, and felt inexplicably displeased.

Kogoro Mouri muttered to himself, "Hmph, these pretty boys are the best at pleasing women. They're so annoying."

"Hello, Uncle Mori!" Yuzuru greeted politely.

"I am Ran and Sonoko's classmate. I have long admired your name and know that you are a famous detective. I have come here today to pay you a visit. This is a small gift, please do not refuse it."

Yuzuru bowed slightly and handed the gift he had prepared to Kogoro Mouri.

Kogoro Mouri's gaze was instantly drawn to the gift in Nanami Hanyu's hand. A glint flashed in his eyes, and his previous dissatisfaction with Nanami Hanyu vanished without a trace. The young man in front of him suddenly became much more pleasing to the eye.

"Oh, so you're Xiaolan's classmate! No wonder you're so handsome. Haha, you're too kind. It's good that you came, why did you bring a gift?"

Kogoro Mouri smiled broadly and was very polite, but his hands didn't stop moving. He quickly took the items and didn't forget to praise Kusunoki Hanyu a few times.
