Chapter 20 Okino Yoko

"Dad! Nan is my classmate, how could you do this?"

Ran, carrying a carefully prepared meal, walked out of the kitchen and happened to witness this scene. She gave Yuzuru an awkward smile, feeling helpless.

"I'm sorry, Nan, my father is just sometimes reckless, please don't take it to heart."

Yuzuru's lips curled up slightly: "It's alright, Ran. This gift was specially prepared for Uncle Mori. By the way, I can smell the aroma. Can we eat now?"

Yu Shengnan's gaze fell on Xiao Lan. Xiao Lan, wearing an apron, looked less lively and playful than usual, but more gentle and charming.

"Please wait a moment, Nan, the food will be ready soon. Please sit with your father for a while."

Ran blushed and smiled shyly, gently placing the food in her hand on the table. As she turned around, she caught a glimpse of Kogoro Mouri already eagerly unwrapping his gift.

"Dad! Could you please look after Nan for me?"

"Okay, okay, I got it, hahaha, I usually wouldn't dare to drink such good wine!"

Xiaolan could only shake her head helplessly, then called out to Yusheng Nan before continuing to cook in the kitchen.

"Nan, please sit down for a while."

"Yusuke, right? I'll call you Yusuke from now on. Come on, sit down here. We're going to have a good drink tonight!"

Kogoro Mouri warmly pulled Kusunoki Hanyu to sit at the table, then picked out two bottles of wine from a pile of gifts and placed them on the table.

"Yuzuru, are you thinking of pursuing Ran? I'd give you my full support! You're way better than that brat who's always buried in deductions!"

Kogoro Mouri gulped down a large mouthful of sake, his face full of admiration. Clearly, Kogoro Mouri was extremely fond of Hanyu Nanami, who had been so courteous on his first visit and had brought such a generous gift.

"Dad, please don't talk nonsense! Nan just came to visit you!"

Xiao Lan, who was busy cooking in the kitchen, heard her father talking nonsense again. She was so angry that her face turned red and she couldn't help but shout at him.

Yuzuru inwardly gave the older man a thumbs up, but outwardly maintained a calm smile as he explained:

"Haha, Uncle, you're really joking. Xiaolan and I are just very good friends."

"Oh, alright, alright, since you're just friends... Ran, aren't you really going to reconsider? What's so great about that kid who's a detective? He's always ruining my business and sabotaging my cases!" Kogoro Mouri grumbled on and on.

"dad!"

Kogoro Mouri smacked his lips, took another small sip of his drink, and remained silent. He never objected to any decision Ran made.

Then, Kogoro Mouri turned around, poured a full glass of sake for Kusunoki Hanyu, who was sitting next to him, and earnestly advised him:

"What man can't drink? When you're out and about, you never know when it might come in handy! So, the higher your alcohol tolerance, the better!"

Yuzuru Hanyu wouldn't say he particularly likes drinking, but he certainly doesn't hate it either. And given his alcohol tolerance, he has no need to worry about getting drunk.

...

Ran carried the freshly prepared food out of the kitchen. She saw that Kogoro Mouri was so drunk that he could barely speak, while Kusunoki Hanyu was just sitting beside him with a slightly flushed face.

Xiaolan shook her head helplessly, then placed the prepared dishes on the table one by one, and casually picked up the wine glass in front of Yusheng Nan and put it aside.

"Dad, can you please drink less? Nan, don't you dare follow my dad's example!"

Although she knew in her heart that her father would definitely not take her words seriously, Xiaolan still couldn't help but say a word of advice.

Noticing Ran's concern for him, Yuzuru smiled:

"It's alright, Ran. It's rare for Uncle Mori to be so happy, so it's fine to have a drink with him."

"Haha, yes! Hey, Yuzuru is right, Dad is so happy today! Ran, I still think Yuzuru is much better than that brat."

As Kogoro Mouri spoke, he raised his glass, preparing to drink it all in one gulp, while also giving Kusunoki Hanyu a helping hand.

Xiaolan glared at her father helplessly a few times, then turned to Yu Shengnan with an apologetic smile and said:

"I'm so sorry, Nan. My dad tends to talk nonsense when he drinks. I hope it didn't bother you."

Yuzuru waved his hand and shook his head in response:

"No problem, Uncle Mori's drinking capacity is truly admirable! By the way, I can already smell the aroma of dinner, may we begin?"

Yuzuru first expressed his desire for the food. Then, he turned his gaze to Ran and began to praise her.

Hearing Yuzuru's praise, Ran blushed slightly and replied softly:

"Hehe, sure."

...

After a few rounds of drinks, Kogoro Mouri's face was flushed, and he was slurring his words: "Ran...where did Shinichi go? Haven't you...haven't you been able to contact that kid yet?"

Hearing her father's question, Xiaolan's eyes instantly dimmed. She sighed softly and replied, "Dad, Shinichi said he has a very important case to deal with, and we may not be able to contact him for a while."

Ran's mood would become gloomy whenever Shinichi Kudo was mentioned, and her originally bright eyes would dim.

Kogoro Mouri was furious. He slammed his fist on the table and angrily cursed, "Fine! That brat who only knows how to deduce! You called him so many times, and he just gave you such a perfunctory answer! When he gets back, I'll teach him a lesson and show him that you're my daughter, Kogoro Mouri's daughter!"
