Chapter 6: Shame

Chapter 6: Shame

Jiang Qingning was surprised and sighed softly, "Thank you, Lord Anping, for speaking up for me. But from now on, you and I will have nothing to do with each other. Tomorrow, Jiang will move out of Lord Anping's residence and restore Qingyi Courtyard to its original state before leaving."

Xun Chen saw Jiang Qingning's series of actions, his face darkened, and he clenched the wolf-hair brush in his hand tightly, and then cut it in half with a "snap".

"Whatever you want! You must never regret it!"

"Regret? Dream on. Shisu, let's go."

Jiang Qingning ignored them and turned away in the incredulous gazes of the three people.

"She's really turned the tables! This is your childhood sweetheart, your wife.

She's not as good as your cousin Qingyi. How much better it would have been if you had listened to your mother and married Qingyi as your concubine, regardless of the rumors!"

"As for Qingyi being married now, she's no longer worthy of your status, so I have to choose a new bride for you? And just now you even contradicted your mother for her!"

Xun Chen echoed angrily, "Jiang is really as plain-looking and vulgar as she was eight years ago!"

Xun Moli was filled with joy.

He slid down from under the legs of the furious Xun Chen, turned around and ran out the door quickly, eager to share this great news with his favorite aunt Qingyi.

When Xun Chen came back to his senses and saw his son leaving, he thought he was leaving heartbroken.

He couldn't help but sigh, "Although Mo Li's words and deeds are inconsistent, he still longs for his mother's care. Jiang Qingning, that vicious woman, is so cruel as to abandon her husband and children!"

"Go tell Qingyi to spend more time with Mo Li these days. Forget it, I'll go in person."

It was almost a final decision, Xun Chen immediately stood up and walked out the door.

The followers at the door looked at each other, finally swallowed the words that were about to come out of their mouths, and walked up to catch up with their parents who provided them with food and clothing.

Old Madam Xun was so angry that she felt dizzy and fainted with her eyes rolled back.

Qingyi Courtyard.

Zi Su's face was filled with sorrow. "Husband, Miss, you've been back to the Jiang Mansion for eight years in a row but couldn't even get through the door. Now you're divorcing your uncle... your ex-uncle. Where else can you go in this capital?"

"What? Madam and son-in-law are divorced? Madam, you are confused. Where can you find such a good husband if you divorce your son-in-law?"

Zi Fu suppressed the excitement in her eyes and walked forward quickly with a worried look on her face.

"Zi Fu, we have been master and servant for many years. Am I good to you?" Jiang Qingning asked with a sidelong glance.

"My lady is naturally very kind to this servant."

Zi Fu suppressed the emotions in her eyes and spoke gently.

"That's good. I've already told Xun Chen that I'll only take my maid and dowry. Zi Fu, are you willing to come with me?"

There was a sneer in Jiang Qingning's eyes. For many years, whenever Xun Chen entered her yard, Zi Fu would always dress up beautifully.

Today is the first day of the new year. If it weren't for this divorce incident, Xun Chen would have been entering her yard regularly.

Zi Fu finished her work early in the morning and immediately went back to her room to change into a new dress.

On their hair were beads wrapped in rice beads and silk thread, specially given to Zi Su and Zi Fu by Jiang Qingning out of sympathy for their hard work. On their ears were a pair of white jade earrings. They looked truly as beautiful as lotus flowers emerging from clear water, naturally without any embellishment.

Jiang Qingning and Li Ding would have nowhere to go. Following her would mean suffering. How could a divorced woman find a good next home?

"Young Master, don't you want it either?" Zi Fu asked tentatively.

"He is Xun Chen's son, but not mine."

The villain outside the yard paused, then turned and ran without hesitation.

Bai Qingyi's eyes flashed with joy, her cheeks flushed as she glanced at Xun Chen shyly. Then, with a look of worry on her face, she whispered comfortingly:

"Brother Chen, my sister must be crazy to not recognize Mo Li. It's all my fault that I volunteered to take care of Mo Li all these years. That's why my sister and the child are separated and she said such heartless words."

"Mo Li must be extremely sad. My heart aches. Qingyi will go find Mo Li right now."

Bai Qingyi had tears in her eyes. She bit her lip stubbornly and turned around, chasing in the direction Xun Moli ran.

Xun Chen stood there, with anger surging in his eyes.

Zi Fu's heart was pounding. "Is the Madam really divorced her son-in-law?"

"Why would Mo Li follow me, a homeless woman? It would be better for him to continue living a life of luxury in the Anping Marquis's mansion. In the future, he can pass the imperial examinations and inherit his father's legacy to ascend to the throne. Your Majesty can allow him to inherit the title, and then he can support me, his biological mother, at that time."

Jiang Qingning spoke with a firm tone and a far-sighted look.

Zi Fu's hesitation flashed across her eyes, and she immediately knelt down and shouted:

"Madam, I am worried that the young master will be left alone in the mansion without anyone to take care of him. I am willing to stay in the mansion alone to take care of the young master and your courtyard, waiting for the day when the son-in-law will take you back."

Jiang Qingning passed her by, seemed to think for a moment, then nodded and said, "You will take care of Mo Li personally in the future. I only have this one son, so you must take good care of him for me."

Zi Fu's eyes sparkled with joy: "Yes, this servant will definitely complete Madam's mission and take good care of the young master!"

As soon as she finished speaking, Zi Fu quickly ran down the stairs and rushed out of the yard, fearing that the people behind her would regret it if she was a step late.

"Why is she being so hypocritical? Does she really think that others can't see through her tricks?!" Zi Su cursed inwardly.

"It doesn't matter. You and I have more important things to do. It's better to reduce the harm from the beginning than to bring someone who may betray you at any time." Jiang Qingning replied indifferently.

In the room.

Zi Su said angrily: "Miss, are you just going to let her go like this?"

Anyone with a discerning eye can see what Zi Fu is thinking, but the young lady still treats her the same as before, which is really disheartening.

"What does it matter if I let it go? What does it matter if I don't? People are made of flesh and blood. I am not a god or Buddha after all. I cannot control how other people's hearts grow."

Jiang Qingning was sorting out clothes and jewelry in her hands. She had been testing his sincerity for the past three months, and the result was that she started to pack her dowry intermittently until she finished it completely yesterday.

She knew it was time to leave.

The door was pushed open from the outside, interrupting Jiang Qingning's thoughts.

"An, Anping Earl." Zi Su's face was pale and he saluted in a low voice.

Xun Chen walked up to Jiang Qingning and looked at her with his eyes lowered.

"You are so anxious to get rid of us and can't wait to end this relationship. Whether you return to the Jiang family or open another mansion, it will take time."

"If you want to stay, Qingyi Courtyard is yours."

Jiang Qingning clenched his hands in his wide sleeves. "Why? Do you want to divorce your original wife and demote her to live in the main courtyard? Or does Earl Anping like to marry another and then favor his concubine over his wife?"

"I am the legitimate daughter of an imperial official. If you try to keep me here by force, I will immediately report you to the authorities for forcing me to stay in your mansion as a concubine."

Xun Chen's expression instantly turned ugly, and he seemed to be gritting his teeth.

"You think I really want to say this, but how should you, a divorced woman, behave outside? Are you going to show up in public all day and bring shame to our Anping Marquis's Mansion?"
