Led by Uncle Ping, the three of them walked towards the other side of the castle.
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che knew in their hearts that this was not the place they really wanted to go, but in order to temporarily cover up their actions, they had to go along.
Uncle Ping did not ask any further questions, while Su Huaiyue and Wei Che were discussing countermeasures tacitly in their hearts.
Not long after, they walked back to the hall, but unexpectedly Zhang Guzi appeared halfway and blocked their way back.
"What are you doing? Why don't you rest at this late hour?"
Zhang Guzi narrowed his eyes slightly, his tone revealing undisguised suspicion.
Uncle Ping saw this and immediately stood in front of them, smiling naturally: "Sir, these two just went to the toilet and now they need to go back to rest."
Zhang Guzi continued to look at the two men suspiciously, but he didn't question them further. He just smiled meaningfully, "Really? I really was drunk."
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che's hearts were hanging in the air. Although Zhang Guzi did not ask too many questions for the time being, they knew very well that the seeds of doubt had been planted in his heart.
Under Zhang Guzi's gaze, Su Huaiyue and Wei Che understood each other's worries with just a glance.
At this moment, a messenger in black appeared silently beside Zhang Guzi and whispered a few words.
Zhang Guzi's expression instantly became serious. Without saying another word to the two of them, he turned around and left quickly.
"Something must have happened."
Su Huaiyue whispered to Wei Che.
"Do you want to go and take a look?" Wei Che whispered to her.
However, just as they were about to set off and catch up during the chaos, Uncle Ping keenly sensed their intentions and stood in front of the two men.
"You two, it's better not to wander around tonight."
His voice was still gentle, but it revealed an unquestionable firmness.
"Uncle Ping, we just—"
Su Huaiyue tried to explain, but was interrupted by Uncle Ping before she could say anything.
"This castle is not peaceful at night. I have to make sure every room is locked."
After saying that, Uncle Ping calmly took out a bunch of keys from his arms and checked and locked each room along the corridor.
This unusual behavior made Su Huaiyue and Wei Che even more confused.
Su Huaiyue couldn't help but ask: "Why is it locked?"
Uncle Ping did not answer, but just glanced at the two of them. After locking them back in the house, his expression became a little complicated, and then he turned and walked in the direction Zhang Guzi left.
"What should we do?"
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che's eyes were fixed on the direction leading to the corridor.
Their hearts seemed to be tightened with uncontrollable curiosity and worry, and they knew that things were much more complicated than they seemed.
"I have to see if there's any chance. If the truth doesn't surface on its own, we have to take the initiative to uncover it. Staying here is just a waste of time.
Su Huaiyue stood up quietly, staring at the door locks outside, and quickly analyzing in his mind what method could be used to unlock them quickly.
Then she took out a hairpin from her pocket, poked through the paper on the door with her hands, found the keyhole, and twisted it quickly. Her movements were as smooth as flowing water, and after a few seconds, she heard a slight "click" sound from the door lock.
She looked at Wei Che with a smile, as if to say: Done.
The two of them tiptoed towards the direction where Zhang Guzi and Uncle Ping had left. There was a small door at the end of the corridor.
The door was gently pushed open and they stepped into a path leading to the back mountain.
The path was lined with tall trees on both sides, and the gentle night wind brought subtle sounds from afar from time to time.
The two of them deliberately walked lightly and carefully went deeper into the mountains.
Not far away, they stopped.
Through the night, you can vaguely see the dark cave entrance.
Zhang Guzi and Uncle Ping were talking in low voices, seemingly discussing something important.
The nearby black-clad messengers stood around the cave like silent shadows, ready for battle.
"What the hell are they doing?"
Wei Che lowered his voice and frowned.
Su Huaiyue gently covered her lips with her hand, "Shh."
She listened with bated breath, trying to catch any possible clue.
Unfortunately, the night wind cut the sound into pieces and nothing could be heard.
However, the scene at the cave entrance made them uneasy: several men were suppressed by black-clothed messengers, and from their clothes they could be roughly judged to be villagers from nearby.
Each of those black-clad messengers had a weapon in his hand. Wei Che and Su Huaiyue adjusted their breathing and decided not to approach the cave rashly.
At this moment, the night seems particularly solemn.
Su Huaiyue whispered, "Let's go back first. It's too dangerous to attack here."
Wei Che nodded, a trace of unwillingness flashing across his eyes, "It seems that we can only retreat temporarily, they are watching us too closely."
The two of them quickly took a detour back, not daring to stay too long.
After returning to the room safely, Su Huaiyue locked the door, and the two finally leaned back on the big bunk bed, looking a little tired.
Outside the window, the night wind gently hit the window frame. A nightingale called out in the distance, and then everything fell silent again.
"Those people really want to make a big fuss."
Su Huaiyue pursed her lips, her eyes deep, and continued, "There must be some conspiracy hidden in this."
Wei Che exhaled lightly and turned sideways to look at her: "Are you sorting out the clues? Do you have any ideas?"
"A little bit, but I need some time."
Su Huaiyue gave a meaningful smile, stopped talking, pretended to be sleepy and lay down to sleep.
After Wei Che fell asleep, Su Huaiyue quietly walked to the side and slipped into the space.
She took out a slightly yellowed ancient book from under the bookshelf in the space, and carefully read it page by page under the light.
