Chapter 16 A Heavy Snowfall (2/2)

"Snow in June? How is that possible!" The officials stared wide-eyed, their faces full of disbelief, some even reaching out to catch the snowflakes.

After confirming it wasn't a hallucination, I couldn't help but mutter "weird" under my breath.

Snowflakes fell to the ground and quickly accumulated into a thin layer of white. The surrounding temperature plummeted, and people who were only wearing light clothing suddenly shivered from the cold.

Shen Qingtang looked at the snow falling all around her and her heart sank – it's here.

It was this sudden heavy snow in their past life that plunged the exiled group into dire straits.

At that time, she didn't have much money, but she gritted her teeth and bought thick clothes for Lu Jin and Jiao Jiao.

I was so cold that I curled up in a ball, and my hands were covered in chilblains.

She assumed the Lu family was in dire straits, just like hers.

It wasn't until later that they discovered Lu's mother had been secretly hiding a large sum of money and was living a more comfortable life than anyone else.

Her older brothers, seeing how pitifully cold she was, gave her their few cotton-padded coats and jackets, while they themselves endured the cold in only thin clothes. Even their grandfather suffered from the cold and hunger...

Thinking of this, Shen Qingtang's eyes turned cold.

The snow fell heavier and heavier, and the cold wind swirled the snowflakes, seeping into people's bones.

Lu Jiaojiao's lips turned purple from the cold, and her teeth chattered, but she still couldn't change her bossy nature.

She yelled at Shen Qingtang, "Shen Qingtang! Can't you see I'm freezing? Get me some clothes! Hurry up!"

In her opinion, it was only natural for Shen Qingtang to find her clothes, just like countless times before.

Shen Qingtang's face hardened, her eyes turning icy: "Who do you think you are, to order me around?"

"Wah—" Lu Jiaojiao was startled by her cold tone, and then burst into tears, tears and snot streaming down her face.

That pitiful look on her face had a touch of Lin Peirou's usual endearing charm.

"You're my mother! How could you treat me like this? You won't give me clothes, are you trying to freeze me to death? Waaah... What kind of heartless mother is you..."

Her crying immediately caused those around her who were already prejudiced against Shen Qingtang to start whispering among themselves.

Madam Qin curled her lip and said sarcastically, "That's right, she's still my own daughter, how can I just watch her freeze?"

Madam Qin nodded in agreement: "Yes, this mother is too cruel, no wonder..."

He glanced at Lu Jin halfway through his sentence, leaving much to the imagination.

Mother Lu went even further, yelling, "Shen Qingtang, you vicious woman! Our Lu family was blind to have married you! You don't even care about your own daughter, are you even human?"

Immediately, accusations arose one after another, as if Shen Qingtang had truly become an unforgivable stepmother.

Shen Qingtang stood in the snow.

He listened to these foul words, but his face remained expressionless.

She knew these people's true colors all too well—she was one of them in her past life, enjoying her sacrifices while stabbing her in the back.

This is nothing more than repeating the same old tricks.

She couldn't be bothered to argue with them, and only glanced coldly at Lu Jiaojiao, who was still wailing: "If you want clothes, go find them yourself. Otherwise, just freeze."

After saying that, she turned around and went back to her own team. She took out a thick blanket from her spatial storage and covered her grandfather's legs with it, ignoring the farce behind her.

The snow was still falling, and the sounds of their conversation gradually faded into the wind and snow.

Shen Qingtang knew that this was just the beginning.

The real test is yet to come. Shen Qingtang called to her two older brothers, "Let's go find something to keep warm."

Just as she turned around, she saw Pei Nian'an following her, her little face covered in snowflakes, but her eyes were clear and calm. She looked up and said, "Auntie, I'll go with you too."
