Chapter 30 The out-of-control sports car No one responded to her
This house was left over from more than ten years ago.
The rust marks remaining on the door handles all exude a strong sense of age.
Liang Jun reached out and placed her hand on the door, then slowly opened it.
But the area outside wasn't the college dormitory.
That was the stairwell she knew all too well, and now it had been cleaned spotlessly.
There used to be an old broom at the corner of the stairs, behind which was the spider's nest. But now, the broom is gone, and even the spider webs in the corner have been swept away.
There were several pots of Phalaenopsis orchids on the windowsill, the flowers that Grandma downstairs grew. Liang Jun remembered that those Phalaenopsis orchids were always wilted, but now they were full of vitality, and even sprouted a few more new shoots.
She's back.
Liang Jun chose to accept this reality.
She went back to her room, locked the door again, and then, exhausted, lay down on the sofa.
Liang Yan was bounced a few times by the sofa.
This sense of security, which she usually takes for granted, made Liang Jun cherish it all the more at this moment.
If her guess is correct, players will be automatically expelled from the instance when the game time ends.
Regardless of which door a player opens—such as the dormitory door they themselves open—they will be teleported back to their respective game login point.
This is the rental room we have now.
Liang Xun rolled over on the sofa, the soft, enveloping feeling gradually making her feel at ease.
Staying away from games is certainly a good thing, but in doing so, she also lost contact with Gu Keke and Luo Chuange.
I wonder how they are doing now?
Just as Liang Jun was drifting off to sleep, a gentle breeze suddenly blew by.
The air vent was pointing directly at where she was lying. Just a gust of wind, and she felt a headache coming on.
Liang Jun got up from the sofa, dragged her feet to the window, and closed the small crack in the window tightly.
Just as she was about to curl up back on the sofa, she suddenly noticed something strange about it.
A few scattered patches of maroon hue adorned the khaki fabric.
But she had no recollection of having this decoration on her sofa.
Liang Jun cautiously moved forward, but observed that the maroon area was gradually expanding along the fabric fibers.
Is this blood?!
Liang Jun immediately realized something was wrong and began to quickly check her body.
The blood was seeping from his own wounds.
These injuries were sustained just a few days before the game started, and now, so much time has passed, they had already scabbed over back in the dorm.
But now, these wounds show no signs of healing; in fact, they are even deeper than the injuries sustained in the game.
Bright red flesh could be seen on Liang Jun's arms and chin, and even the abrasions on her knees had worsened, with blood slowly seeping out.
She needed to bandage her wound as soon as possible.
This belated pain prompted Liang Yan to start scavenging for any usable medications in her home.
There wasn't much storage space. Liang Jun turned the cabinets and drawers upside down before she could barely find two packets of cold medicine and an unopened box of stomach medicine.
They're all expired.
She didn't have essential first-aid supplies like alcohol wipes, iodine, and gauze at home.
The wound is bleeding profusely, and it's absolutely necessary to bandage it.
Liang Xuan returned to the bedroom and found her phone on the desk.
After pressing and holding the lock screen button, the phone screen lit up again—Liang Jun breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, there was still power.
During gameplay, mobile phones and similar communication devices are essentially useless, unable to even be turned on normally.
However, outside of the game, all functions of the communication tools work normally.
Liang Jun opened her navigation app and began searching for the nearest large pharmacy.
There isn't one within 100 meters. The navigation shows the nearest pharmacy is several kilometers away.
Liang Xun skillfully opened the transportation page, ready to see which bus routes she could take to reach her destination.
However, the page was completely blank, with the words "No buses are currently running in the city" prominently displayed at the top.
Liang Xuan silently exited the page.
This may mean that some industries that require specific personnel to operate have come to a complete standstill.
There are many more tragic stories behind this, but she doesn't want to think about those things that make her feel even worse.
Liang Jun put her phone away and left the rented room.
It's not just a simple staircase or passageway.
Liang Jun discovered that every space she walked through was spotless.
The smooth cement road in the community is free of pebbles; the community trash cans have been washed clean, and the accumulated garbage inside has long since disappeared.
Even the greenery lining both sides of the road has been trimmed into uniform shapes. Looking around, it resembles…
It looks like a template from a game.
Despite the pain from the friction of her wound, Liang Xun quickly walked out of the community gate.
She originally intended to use the walking navigation to walk directly to the pharmacy, but she hadn't walked more than a few steps before the burning sensation stopped her in her tracks.
Public transportation is out of service, and walking is not practical.
As Liang Jun lingered at the entrance of the residential area, she suddenly caught a glimpse of the parking lot next to her.
The road infrastructure in this community is quite poor, and there's simply no space to designate parking spaces. Even if cars were to drive in, they would completely block the main roads.
Therefore, they set up a separate parking area in the courtyard next to the residential area, where all the vehicles in the residential area will be parked.
The gate to the parking lot was not locked.
Liang Jun swayed twice, then pushed open the door and went in.
The scene before her eyes left Liang Jun somewhat stunned.
Vehicles of all shapes and sizes are neatly arranged in a parking lot shaped like a mahjong table, like mahjong tiles.
Every car fit perfectly into its parking space, as if an invisible hand was neatly placing them in place where Liang Jun couldn't see.
Liang Jun discovered something even stranger—
The car key is attached to the driver's side door handle of each vehicle.
She didn't dare touch it, feeling that some doubts hadn't been resolved.
Who owns these vehicles?
Why are they here?
Having a car key means you can drive the vehicle directly – is this a new game trap?
Liang Jun walked around the parking lot for a while until her eyes fell on a familiar van.
She recognized the license plate; the last four digits were 567. It belonged to the gatekeeper.
Grandpa once told her that his son had chosen this license plate for him. He said that someone had his father's fortune told, and these three numbers were his lucky numbers, so he used them on the license plate.
The gatekeeper grandpa has a habit of collecting recyclables. When he's not on duty, he drives his van to sell the recyclables.
Liang Jun walked to the driver's side of the van. A black car key, suspended by a red rope, hung on the somewhat worn door handle.
As the wind blew by, the light car key swung and tapped against the dented car door, making a crisp metallic sound.
The gatekeeper was dead; I had witnessed his death firsthand.
But his car showed up here.
Liang Jun looked around at the parking lot, which was completely packed, and felt a pang of sadness.
The owners of these cars have probably all passed away.
Could these unclaimed vehicles parked here be items provided to players by the system?
Liang Jun felt she should ask the system, "Can I drive these cars?"
The system didn't respond for a long time. Perhaps it hadn't touched on the keywords, so Liang Jun decided to try a different approach.
"If I want to drive a car here, do I need to use points to redeem them?"
In-game items and shop items can only be obtained by redeeming them with points.
Liang Jun felt that the system wouldn't kindly give players items; she might have to give something in return.
A few seconds later, the system's voice blew by along with the sound of the wind.
Surviving players can freely use resources within the world without any restrictions.
Hearing this reply, Liang Jun was temporarily relieved.
She took off the car keys and then climbed into the car.
The interior of the vehicle was also cleaned spotlessly, with not a trace of waste left behind.
After adjusting the seat, Liang Jun started the car.
The engine roared in the deserted parking lot, the car shook violently twice, and then returned to calm.
Liang Jun pressed the clutch, shifted gears with her right hand, and slowly and steadily drove the van out of the parking lot.
She obtained her driver's license during university, but that was all she got. After leaving driving school, Leung Yung never touched a steering wheel again.
This can be considered her first real "journey".
Liang Jun opened the navigation on her phone and placed it horizontally on the dashboard.
She operated the vehicle with extreme care and caution. Every gear shift was strictly controlled according to the gear range.
A few kilometers isn't too far.
Liang Jun maintained a speed of about 40 miles per hour, and after about five minutes, she had driven to the last intersection.
The navigation showed that she needed to turn left here and then go straight for 100 meters to reach her destination.
Although she didn't see any other vehicles along the way, the traffic lights at the intersection were still functioning normally.
Just to be on the safe side, Leung Yung decided to follow the traffic light signals and turn.
After the red light for left turns flashes five times, it turns green, symbolizing safety.
Liang Yan shifted gears again, easily disengaging the clutch, and the van emitted a series of screeching sounds as if it were falling apart.
The pointer on the dashboard slowly rose to the number ten.
The start was very smooth.
Liang Jun tried her best to control the car's speed; she didn't want to go too fast when turning.
The car had just crossed the stop line when Liang Jun caught an extremely loud engine roar, along with the screeching sound of rubber scraping against the pavement at high speed—
They were all coming from ahead of me.
Liang Jun looked across the road and saw a red convertible sports car approaching her at an extremely high speed.
Seemingly out of control, or perhaps due to a problem with the driver, the sports car hurtled straight toward Leung Yung's driver's seat.
Liang Jun was eager to accelerate, but the amount of throttle she pressed was completely unsuitable for the current low gear.
After the van shook violently like a rocking horse, it was announced that it should be shut down on the spot.
The red sports car rapidly approached, and Liang Jun had the idea of jumping out of the car.
Just as she quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and prepared to push open the car door and jump with her eyes closed, her car shook violently once again.
Through the windshield, Leung Yung noticed that the sports car was no more than ten meters away from her.
At this speed, Liang Xun could be sent flying in the blink of an eye.
But she didn't.
Two plumes of black and white mist appeared out of nowhere, moving faster than the car itself, and enveloped the entire sports car before it could move.
The fog intervened, slowing the car's out-of-control speed. In Liang Jun's eyes, the red sports car suddenly began to slow down.
Then, she watched helplessly as the sports car's trajectory was gradually shifted until the direction in which the car was pointing was completely out of the van's range.
The fog dissipated.
The moment the sports car was unleashed, the familiar sound of a Mercedes engine rang out behind Liang Yun.
Liang Yan wanted to start the car first.
Parking across the middle of the road will only create greater safety hazards for yourself.
After the van was moved with difficulty to the side of the road, Leung Yung pulled the handbrake and looked at the back of the van.
Two wisps of black and white mist are now suspended where the gatekeeper used to collect recyclables.
"Zhu Shengqing! Zhu Bieming!" Liang Xun greeted excitedly, "Long time no see!"
She clung to her seat and looked back, saying, "Thank you for saving my life!"
After all, jumping out of a moving vehicle doesn't guarantee survival, and Liang Jun was still somewhat shaken.
But the familiar voice did not ring out.
The excitement in Liang Xuan's eyes quickly dissipated.
The black and white mist did not take on a human form as it had the first time; instead, it curled up into a small ball.
The surrounding air waves trembled, appearing very unstable.
Liang Jun's heart clenched. "Zhu Shengqing? Zhu Bieming?"
No one responded to her.
