Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The dinner was very sumptuous, and Zhang Song kept eating. Mao Jianming's performance was beyond my expectation. He usually kept a low profile, but I didn't expect him to be able to chat with them.

He quoted from classics and was clearly very familiar with Taoist culture. This doctorate wasn't for nothing. I was impressed by him.

Actually, I went back to the Tianshi Mansion this time because I had another question: whether I was seeing things that night. This matter is like a nail in my heart, lingering. I want to come back and ask for a talisman to give me peace of mind. But now, in this situation, it's not appropriate to talk about this.

When Erma and I went to bed at night, I secretly told her about this.

When she heard about this, she patted her chest and said, "Sister, leave it to me."

Then she ran out of the house and didn't come back until half a day later.

She handed me a wooden bead with an intricate cloud pattern carved into it.

"What is this?" I asked her as I took the wooden beads.

"This is the evil-repelling bead I made myself. Now you don't have to worry. Remember not to get it wet, otherwise it will easily rot." she said.

"You are really my good sister." Although Erma was criticized by Master Zhang, her abilities were real. Don't look at what Master Zhang said about her, maybe it contains the feeling of "hoping his daughter will become a phoenix".

We originally wanted to stay for two more days, but the next day, Mao Jianming received a call, and then he excitedly told us that the project he applied for was approved and he had to go back to school.

I had no choice but to drive him back to school.

Before leaving, Erma pestered me to take her down the mountain to play. Finally, Li Danyang came out and scolded her, and she reluctantly went back.

On the way back to the city, I curiously asked Mao Jianming what the project was.

He said that he was going to Yunnan to look for a plant. He talked a lot and I just remembered that the plant had been extinct for a long time. But he still wanted to look for it in the primeval forests of Yunnan. Finally, he asked Zhang Song and I if we wanted to go.

"I'm fine, where's Brother Song?" I asked him.

"Then let's go." Zhang Song said.

"That's great. I'll get a certificate for you two when I get back." Mao Jianming said excitedly.

After sending him all the way to their school, Wang Song got out of the car and said, "I'll go get ready too. We'll call each other when the time comes."

And so, the three of us separated temporarily.

I drove home bored, and I needed to prepare some things. To this end, I even looked up the necessary items for the wild on the Internet, and then drove to supermarkets and stores. This shopping took me a whole day, and by the time I finished shopping, it was already dark.

I hurried to the store again and told Xiaorong that I would be going on a long trip soon and asked her to look after the store and contact me anytime if anything happened.

I looked at the full trunk and was looking forward to this journey.

After parking my car in the underground parking lot, I prepared to head home. But then I saw a woman with long hair and a red dress standing in the corner of the parking lot. I couldn't see her face clearly, but I knew her well. She was the one we'd seen in the alley that night when we were drinking and returning home. At the time, I thought I was just drunk, but now it seems that wasn't the case.

"Who?" I shouted.

Then she disappeared in the blink of an eye.

I knew I had encountered something unclean, and I was so scared that I ran into the elevator quickly. The house I rented was on the fifth floor. After pressing "5", I pressed the door closing button frantically.

"Ding." The elevator door finally began to close, but at the moment it closed, the female ghost in red suddenly appeared in front of the elevator, and a terrifying face was revealed outside the gap of the elevator door.

I was so scared that I jumped back and bumped into the back of the elevator. Fortunately, the elevator had already closed completely and started to rise.

B2, B1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4…

The elevator's display kept scrolling "4" in a loop, but it was clearly going up.

"Ding." The elevator door opened. The voice-activated lights in the hallway dimmed, especially the green light indicating the emergency exit on the staircase. It was particularly eerie to me. But my only thought was to get home quickly, as if returning home would bring me safety. I mustered my courage and ran to the staircase, starting to run to the fifth floor.

My heart began to beat wildly, and a sense of danger came from above my head. When I looked up, a drop of blood fell on my face, and I saw the ghost girl's long hair hanging down on it. She was holding the handrail of the stairs, looking at me from above.

Her face was bruised and bleeding. Her neck was twisted at an angle, likely broken. Her limbs were also misaligned, looking like they were fractured.

Thinking that the blood on my face was dripping from her face, the fear in my heart rose rapidly.

"Ah!" I screamed and started running back in panic.

The lights in the hallway began to flicker, and I saw the ghost approaching me as the lights flickered. She limped, leaving a trail of blood in her wake. Terrified, I huddled in a corner, not daring to look at her. Looking down, I suddenly remembered the warding beads Erma had given me. I frantically searched my pockets until I finally found them.

I quickly took out the beads and held them against my chest.

The evil-repelling beads really worked. The ghost vanished instantly upon seeing them. I stood up, terrified, and scanned the corridor. The flickering lights returned to normal, the ghost gone, and the blood on the floor gone. Everything seemed as if nothing had happened. It's possible I was drunk that night, but what happened tonight was definitely not an illusion.

I didn’t dare to walk up the stairs anymore, so I had to walk to the elevator. At this time, the elevator display screen clearly showed “11”.

I pressed the button and the elevator doors opened. This time, nothing unexpected happened, and I made it all the way to the fifth floor. Before the elevator doors opened, I carefully glanced around the corridor, making sure everything was in order before exiting.

Then I ran to the front door, took out my key and opened it. Once inside, I panicked and turned on the light, then slammed the door shut and locked it. I leaned against the wall, gasping for breath. I was almost scared to death.

After calming down for a while, I turned on all the lights in the house, but I still felt a little uneasy.

I walked into the bedroom and tried to close the curtains. Then I saw the same place where I had first encountered the red-dressed ghost. A gray-haired old woman was burning paper next to a telephone pole. The flames shone on her face, making it appear sallow.

She seemed to feel that I was looking at her and turned her head to look at me.

I quickly drew the curtains to block her view.

Terrified, I hid under the covers. I wanted to call Xiaorong and ask her to come stay with me, but the thought of her being in danger again prevented me from calling. I didn't dare sleep that night until I saw the sunlight filtering through the curtains and realized it was daybreak. My mind was in a trance, and the sight of the sunlight was like a lifesaver.

I opened the curtains and the sunlight came in, bringing a sense of security.
