Chapter 35

Chapter 35

The eye in the sky blinked a few times before gradually disappearing from the sky. The moon now turned green, and the sky darkened. Illuminated by this moonlight, the village seemed to have entered another world.

I watched the sky cautiously, the strange aura gradually dissipating. I didn't let my guard down until everything returned to normal.

The three of us looked at each other, none of us knowing what these eyes were. Why did they appear in the tree, and why did they fly into the sky? We thought there would be a big battle, but unexpectedly, they disappeared suddenly.

With doubts, we walked out of the village and looked back at the entire mountain village, and found that the village had actually changed.

The black mountain behind was originally in the shape of a coffin lying on the ground, but now one end of the coffin is hanging up.

What on earth was going on? Even the Demon King or the Ghost King couldn't have such great power to relocate a mountain.

But what happened next was even more shocking to the three of us. When we returned to the village, although the fighting wasn't big, it had caused quite a commotion. Strangely, no one came out to investigate. We initially thought they were afraid and didn't dare to come out, but when daybreak arrived, the village chief and others saw us and didn't recognize us.

At first I thought he was playing tricks, but after testing them I found out that they really didn't recognize us.

Ma Ping found the person who had gone to Changbai Mountain to look for him, but he flatly denied that he had ever been out. He didn't look like he was lying, and we were completely bewildered. In desperation, we explained the situation to them, but they didn't believe us at all and, led by the village chief, drove us out of the village.

Sister Ma was very angry and was still cursing when she got back to the car. She was really pissed off about the job Ma Ping had taken on. Since they didn't welcome us, there was no way we could force them to stay.

"Okay, Sister Ma, are we just going to leave like this?" I said.

"Why don't you leave? You clearly invited us here, but now you are doing this to me." Sister Ma said.

I was silent for a moment, then said, "I actually want to see what's going on. Even though the villagers don't recognize us, what we experienced last night should be correct."

"But now they won't let us in at all. Even if we want to find out, we can't," said Sister Ma.

"Don't they come out at night?" I laughed.

After I said this, Ma Ping and Ma Jie understood what I meant. Since every household had their doors locked at night, we could go in and investigate at night, as we couldn't find anything in the village during the day.

"But this goes against our regulations," said Sister Ma.

In the Ma family, if the victim does not come to ask for help, they will not take the initiative to help.

"How about this, you guys go back to fulfill your mission first, and I'll stay and take a look. If I don't find anything, I'll come back to find you," I said.

Sister Ma said angrily, "Aren't you talking nonsense to me?"

She glanced at Ma Ping, then asked him to go back and talk to the patriarch about this matter first, and she stayed to accompany me.

This matter originally belonged to Ma Ping. Now that something went wrong, he would definitely go back and tell the clan leader about it. It wasn't a big deal, but Ma Ping was concerned about Sister Ma's safety and gave her instructions for a long time.

"Okay, stop wasting time and go quickly. Don't forget to pick us up in two days." Sister Ma drove Ma Ping away.

Now, Sister Ma and I were the only ones left at the village entrance. With nowhere else to go, we simply circled to the Black Mountain behind the village. This mountain now tilted upwards towards the sky, and it took us a long time to reach the top. Sitting there, we looked down at the village below, and it really gave us a different feel.

Looking down from above, the entire village's terrain had become a vast pit, reminiscent of a grave. Only now, the grave was facing downward, with the coffin on top—in other words, the entire grave was upside down. The coffin, which should have been buried in the earth, now appeared on the surface, while the mound of the grave bulged into the ground.

The villagers were like a flock of sheep, wandering around the street.

A terrifying thought came to my mind: Are these villagers all kept in captivity?

To test my theory, Sister Ma and I once again explored Heishankan at night. Although we knew the villagers stayed indoors at night, we tiptoed into the village. Countless eyes appeared in the trees at the entrance. We didn't disturb them and simply entered the village. But that didn't mean they wouldn't come looking for us. Several of them turned to look at us. We didn't move, and neither did they. For a moment, we stared at each other.

We quietly moved towards the village. The eyes once again made the familiar "quack" sound. This time, they didn't attack us, but all flew into the sky. Then, the ground shook violently, and the black mountain behind the village, which had been suspended at one end, now fell heavily to the ground.

Sister Ma and I both lost our balance and sat on the ground. The loud bang hurt my ears. Then I saw several figures running out of the village. As they got closer, I could see they were the village chief and his men. They spotted Sister Ma and me and surrounded us. I secretly gathered my golden-feathered arrows in my hand, ready to strike if the situation turned sour.

The village chief shone his flashlight in our faces and exclaimed in surprise, "Why are you making such a commotion when you're not sleeping inside? Oh, and why isn't Master Ma Ping with you?"

The old man remembered us again.

Sister Ma and I stood up and looked at the puzzled faces of the villagers around us. I stepped forward and said, "Village Chief, we're just out to see what's going on in your village. Brother Ma Ping has already gone back and will be back in a couple of days. But don't worry, this person next to me is also a descendant of the Ma family and will definitely help you solve your problem."

After saying that, I pulled Sister Ma's clothes.

Sister Ma immediately picked up on me and said, "You all should go away. We've noticed some signs and I believe we'll be able to help you resolve them soon."

The village chief then said, "Then I'll trouble you two masters."

The village chief gave the villagers a call, and they all went back to their homes. I then put away the golden-feathered flying arrow in my hand and returned with Sister Ma to the place where the village chief had previously told us to stay.

Sister Ma muttered, "Why did they remember us again?"

I pointed to the black mountain and then to the sky.

Now that Black Mountain has returned to its original position, the countless eyes in the sky above us have long since vanished, and the moon is its normal yellow. I think this is the key: as long as Black Mountain changes its position, the villagers will lose their memories, and once it returns, they will regain their memories.

But what I still don't understand is that, from a global perspective, this is a huge formation, and what is the purpose of building this formation? It can't be just to make the villagers lose their memories, right?

Now this Black Mountain is shrouded in fog and I have no idea what to do.
