Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Things were simple after that. We exchanged contact information and made plans to have dinner or go out for fun every now and then.

After I finished telling Zheng Yunyun, she said apologetically, "I'm sorry, I didn't know you had amnesia."

I've long been accustomed to it and don't think there's anything wrong with it. I said, "It's okay, I don't even care anymore."

I only said this verbally. Without my memories, I always feel that my life is incomplete. Master Zhang and the others seem to be reluctant to let me recall the past. Although I didn't say it openly, I will definitely look into it secretly. No matter what I did in the past or what kind of person I was, I don't care. I just want to get my memories back.

When we were lying on the bed, Zheng Yunyun saw a bead on my wrist and asked, "Your bead is so delicate, what is it made of?"

"This is an evil-repelling bead that one of my sisters made for me."

"Wow, it's so beautiful, can you show it to me?"

I took the evil-repelling bead off my hand and handed it to her.

She looked at the evil-repelling beads for a long time and said, "This is more beautiful than jewelry. Can this thing really ward off evil?"

I have no doubt about Erma's ability, and the fact that I used it to ward off ghosts that night really proves that it works.

"Really," I replied.

Then she reluctantly returned the evil-repelling beads to me and asked mysteriously, "Have you ever seen a ghost?"

Talking about ghosts in the middle of the night, I suddenly thought of the female ghost in red who has been haunting me these past few days.

Seeing that I was silent, she continued to talk to herself: "I really saw a ghost when I was a child."

When she said that, my curiosity was aroused, so I asked her, "What's it like?"

She said: "I was only five or six years old at the time. My dad was taking me home on his motorcycle at night, and on the way I saw a cloud of white fog. It looked like a person, floating on the road. I told my dad that there was someone there, but he told me to shut up and stop talking nonsense. The next day he said I was seeing things. But I definitely wasn't seeing things. The fog was drifting on the road, just like a person walking."

"And what happened next?"

"Then there was a car accident. A man on his bike went straight off the road. There were stone pillars on both sides of the road, and the motorcycle knocked them down, killing the man. Accidents kept happening there, so we hired a mechanic to take a look. He then cut down the poplar trees on both sides of the road, saying they were too tall and dense, blocking the view. Even after they were cut down, accidents still happened frequently. Since then, no one has dared to use that road, and it's been abandoned for over a decade now."

Once we started chatting, we both forgot our tiredness and started chatting. Zheng Yunyun is very outgoing, which is a bit like my personality.

Then she told me about something that happened there. Once the topic of ghosts was opened, it was like Pandora's box that could not be contained.

"When I was in college, there were six of us in our dorm. My senior student said someone had died in our building, in the sealed-off dorm on the fourth floor, at the very back. Rumors like these are normal in schools. They're usually just made up by students at night when they're bored, and over time, they become true. But later I realized it might be true. That day, Zhang Yu and I came back from outside, and she walked me downstairs to the dorm. It was already very late."

"Is Zhang Yu going to do that with us?"

She said shyly, "Yeah."

"You guys have been together since college?" I said in surprise.

"We're not together, we're just good friends." Looking at her expression, I knew she had a good impression of him.

"Go on." I looked at her with a smile.

She felt embarrassed by my look, and then continued, "He walked me downstairs, and I watched him go. At that time, everyone in the building was asleep, and it was very quiet. As a result, when I turned around, I caught a glimpse of the dormitory on the fourth floor. It's strange to say, I usually don't pay attention to that place, but tonight I took a look unconsciously. I saw a girl standing behind the window of that dormitory, looking at me. At that time, I thought I was seeing things, but I immediately remembered the legend that someone had died in that dormitory, and the appearance described was very similar to that girl.

I was so frightened that I ran straight to my dorm. My dorm was on the fifth floor, so I had to pass the fourth. As I was passing the fourth floor, I for some reason glanced towards the end of the hallway and saw a dark figure standing there. In my panic, I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle. The dorm manager on the fourth floor heard me screaming, came out, and scolded me for yelling so late at night.

Even though she scolded me, I wasn't angry at all. I felt like I was finally saved. Do you understand how I felt at that time? I finally saw a living person, and my courage grew.

As a result, when I was sleeping at night, I vaguely heard someone walking back and forth in the dormitory. The footsteps made me annoyed. I was about to lose my temper when I saw it was a dark shadow, and my roommates were all on the bed. I was so scared that I shrank into the quilt and dared not come out.

The next day, I told my roommates about it, and they all said it was a good story. I anxiously told them it was all true, but no one believed me. After that incident, I didn't dare live in the dorm anymore and rented a place with someone else.

Alas, later on, a senior student on the fourth floor of our building jumped to her death. It caused quite a stir at the time. Some said it was due to relationship problems, others said it was due to excessive exam pressure, and still others said she fell while sleepwalking. In the end, there was no consensus. But I have a feeling it was related to what I saw that night, and afterward, that dormitory building was closed off.

After that, she asked me, "Have you ever encountered such a thing?"

When she saw that I didn't say anything, she kept asking, "Have you ever done that? Tell me quickly."

I couldn't persuade her, so I told her about the red-dressed female ghost I had encountered recently. She excitedly said, "Don't they say on the Internet that people wearing red clothes are evil ghosts? That thing is really powerful."

When I saw her like this, I realized that you can't judge a person by their appearance. I thought she was very quiet, but when she talked about this matter, she became like a loudmouth.

"Maybe someone has jumped from the building where you live. What's the name of your neighborhood? I'll check it for you."

After hearing what she said, I thought, yes, I can check it online.

So I said, "Xinyuefu."

She picked up the phone and exclaimed after a while: "Oh my god, it really exists."

I immediately got out of bed, moved closer to her, and looked at her phone screen.

The two of us huddled together, and on her phone, written prominently: "Ten years have passed since the murder, and the truth is becoming increasingly blurred. Is there still a chance of solving the Xinyuefu murder and body burial case?"
