"Why did you suddenly ask about him?" Annie asked.
Chen Dong said, "I remember that Mr. Ma introduced this engineer to us back then. I forgot his name, but at that time I also asked him to handle the cooperation between our ICQ and QQ."
At this point, Anne remembered this detail.
Actually, when the two bosses were discussing this engineer, Annie was also wondering why Chen Dong would directly name the engineer who poured tea as the middleman to handle the project.
Chen Dong explained, "Think about it, when we went there, QQ Penguin Technology Company was already spending money to recruit people. Didn't they recruit assistants or secretaries?"
"Why make an engineer from the company pour us tea? At the very least, their office director, Liang Huihong, is sitting in the conference room."
Lin Zhiyuan pondered the matter several times and seemed to have grasped some of the logic. "You mean this engineer deliberately came in to attract our attention?"
"At least it shows that he is a person who likes to show off."
Chen Dong recalled the scene, "I noticed him right away. This engineer was definitely not content to work at Tencent."
"However, at that time, I asked him to directly handle the project simply because he was an engineer at Tencent and should be very knowledgeable about the technology of the project."
"It seems we can try to win this person over."
"Annie, have someone investigate this engineer. I need to get his information."
"I understand," Anne replied, her tone hesitant.
Poaching talent from tech companies is not a very ethical practice.
However, this was the boss's order, and Annie had no choice but to comply.
An hour later, Annie came in with the documents and introduced, "This person's name is Yu Weie, and he is one of the founding partners of QQ."
"His first job was at QQ Technology Company, so it seems he started working there right after graduation."
Annie continued, "The other founding partners include Liang Huihong and Luo Qun."
Chen Dong fell into thought, which meant that he had been involved in the development of the earliest version of QQ.
Most importantly, QQ faced setbacks after its launch, and Tencent was on the verge of bankruptcy. He must have experienced that as well.
It's truly remarkable that they managed to hold on until Tencent Technology received investment from Darius Media.
Anne added, "I tried to pretend to be a job applicant and contacted their company. The people there said that the current head of development for the Penguin project is not this Yu Wei'e."
Chen Dong was somewhat surprised. Generally speaking, given that the company's veterans were also highly capable technical talents, why would Tencent choose to sideline an engineer who had made such significant contributions at such a crucial time as the launch of QQ?
Anne thought for a moment and guessed, "Could it be that Yu Wei'e made some mistake in his work, which is why he was squeezed out of the center of the project?"
"That's impossible. He was the one who built this original version. Now we've hired more engineers and technicians, and they're all experienced. With these people supporting the project, how could there be any major problems?" Chen Dong retorted.
"Besides, if there had been a problem, QQ wouldn't have been able to launch so smoothly."
Lin Zhiyuan thought, "It's possible that he's been sidelined by the other engineers and technicians. After all, he's a company veteran. If they don't sideline him, there's no room for them to get promoted."
Chen Dong smiled dismissively and looked at Lin Zhiyuan seriously, saying, "Tencent Technology Company isn't without a boss."
"As a company veteran and a key technical member, Yu Wei'e has been with Tencent through such difficult times. Even if someone wanted to sideline him, could they do it without Jack Ma's consent?"
This statement highlighted the key point, and everyone focused their attention on Mr. Ma.
During the project development, they must have encountered differences in ideas or caused some internal conflict, which is why they sidelined Yu Wei'e.
Moreover, the decision to create a fictional world must have been approved by Mr. Ma.
The more he analyzed the situation, the more complicated it became. Chen Dong, a mere engineer, actually took it seriously.
"Boss, what's the point of us looking up Yu Wei'e's information?" Annie asked curiously.
"What do you think?" Chen Dong tapped the document that Engineer Chen had brought on the table with his finger and said, "QQ is now far ahead of the competition in the Chinese market."
"With such powerful promotional methods and such strong financial backing, QQ has progressed almost without any obstacles in the Chinese market."
Chen Dong sighed, feeling very frustrated. "But right now we can't do anything to QQ. The upgrade and optimization of ICQ is still only in the planning stage. The engineers, architects, and technicians haven't provided a complete project plan yet."
Because Tencent launched QQ ahead of schedule, they didn't have time to react. Time was too tight, and all the upgrade and optimization plans were still just general concepts.
"Either stop QQ's rise or disrupt the existing order from the outside. This requires ICQ to be launched as soon as possible and upgraded and optimized quickly. Alternatively, we can disrupt their balance from within, which requires knowing ourselves and our enemy."
Chen Dong began to plan a grand strategy: "I need to know what went wrong within Tencent that made Mr. Ma go so far as to exclude the company's veterans, especially those in charge of technical engineering, from the project center."
