Chapter 98 Machinery Plant

"Let's go, aren't we going to eat?" Li Weiguo glanced at them and didn't continue the topic.

Xu Jiaguo, on the other hand, looked completely bewildered. He didn't understand why everyone had fallen silent so suddenly after Secretary Li simply said that the cafeteria was nice. This included even Factory Director Sun, who had been chatting and laughing with Secretary Li just moments before.

Wang Shouren, however, was aware of it.

If you say this after you've finished eating, it's a compliment. But if you say it before you've eaten, it's a criticism.

They criticized the small cafeteria for being overly decorated.

Fortunately, Li Weiguo did not leave, but stayed for dinner.

What this means is, I've warned you before, and I'm giving you face this time, but if you don't change your ways later, don't blame me.

Everyone present was shrewd and astute.

They can understand both kind and harsh words.

Factory Director Sun breathed a sigh of relief and became even more enthusiastic.

After Li Weiguo left, Factory Director Sun didn't neglect Wang Shouren. He gave him a tour of the factory and even sent an assistant behind before leaving. The assistant was also surnamed Sun, probably a relative of his.

After Director Sun left, this clerk, Sun, visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, offered one to Wang Shouren and one to Xu Jiaguo, and lit it.

Men's friendships can begin with a single cigarette.

From Officer Sun, Wang Shouren learned that this guy was also a vocational school graduate. He was assigned here because of Director Sun's connections. He himself didn't really want to come. In his own words, a good man should have ambitions beyond his hometown. If his mother hadn't dragged him by the ear and made him come here, he might not have come at all.

Making friends with genuine people makes things a bit easier.

Both Xu Jiaguo and Wang Shouren thought so.

At least, they were able to become familiar with each other in a short period of time.

Sun Gan first took them on a tour of the factory dormitory. The environment wasn't great; it was a four-person room with two bunk beds and a worn-out desk. But in those days, it was a fairly decent room.

"This was specially prepared for you by the factory recently. What do you think? Not bad, right?"

"It's really good." Xu Jiaguo nodded.

"No one else lives here. This place is specifically for you. You can stay here as usual, or if you live close to home, you can go home to stay."

"I won't go home, staying here is fine." Xu Jiaguo didn't hesitate; he had brought all his change of clothes with him today.

Wang Shouren, however, said, "My home is not far from here, I'll go home to live."

Xu Jiaguo felt a little regretful, after all, it was a rare opportunity to live together again and reminisce about their old dormitory life. But then he thought about it, and realized Wang Shouren had only been married a short time, so he let it go. He had a wife, and a new one at that; what man would want to share a room with another man?

After arranging the logistics, Officer Sun said, "Okay, you can take care of things here. I'll bring you your work badges later. You can just go to the canteen to eat. Don't worry, the factory will cover your food and lodging here. Come on, I'll take you to the technical department."

The technical department of the machine factory wasn't as big as I'd imagined. It was a large office with only about twenty seats in total, and there weren't any individual cubicles. Everyone worked at a large desk. There weren't many people in the technical department; most of the seats were empty, indicating that they were probably working in the workshop.

Upon seeing Secretary Sun lead his men in...

I thought it was a new employee.

Without needing to be introduced by Officer Sun, Wang Shouren began to introduce himself: "Hello comrades, I am Wang Shouren, the instructor from the Ministry who came down to help our factory with technical reforms. This is my colleague Xu Jiaguo. I look forward to working with you all in a few months, and I hope that we can cooperate with each other to complete my work."

Wang Shouren had just finished speaking.

Officer Sun then chimed in: "Comrades Wang Shouren and Xu Jiaguo are comrades whom Director Sun pleaded with higher-ups for a long time before they came down. Let's all welcome them!"

"Clap clap clap clap clap..."

A round of applause broke out, and the head of the technical department stood up and said, "Welcome, welcome. Instructor Wang will be working here for a period of time, and everyone should actively cooperate with his work."

“My name is Yan Xianhua. I used to be an engineer in our factory. Later, the head of our factory's technical department was transferred away by higher authorities, and I took over his position.”

This kind of thing is quite normal in this era. After all, everything is in need of rebuilding, and combat effectiveness is the top priority. This is also why the top leaders have a headache. An engineer found a direction and was about to make his mark in a factory. Then, some problems arose at the higher-ups, and they needed technical personnel, so he was transferred away immediately.

The leftovers in the factory, while not exactly defective, were enough to address some of the problems.

There are still too few people with truly innovative thinking.

Wang Shouren is one of them. That's why the top leader specially transferred him to the ministry. He was really afraid.

If Wang Shouren were to achieve something significant while still working at the steel rolling mill, he would be transferred immediately. He would have no one to turn to. So, after confirming the situation, they transferred Wang Shouren directly to the ministry. You might say that working at the steel rolling mill is a waste of talent, I understand, but working at the ministry is not a waste of talent. This is a ministry that needs to be strategically positioned nationwide, so it's not easy for others to transfer him away.

Later, Wang Shouren's achievements indeed confirmed his ideas.

After that steel rolling mill came out, some people did inquire about his connections.

When they found out that his connections were within the ministry, they gave up on the idea.

These days, everyone is having a hard time.

This Engineer Yan was also very straightforward; he preferred to be called Engineer rather than Director.

Wang Shouren didn't waste any words and went straight to the point: "Hello, Engineer Yan, I'm a clerk from the Ministry of Industry. My main purpose here is to help the senior leaders implement the assembly line reform. I've already achieved good results at the steel rolling mill. This is my first posting here, and I hope Engineer Yan can help me out as much as possible."

"No problem, no problem." Yan Xianhua was less serious when he heard Wang Shouren say that.

This includes people in the office.

Since we're all in the tech field, there aren't as many barriers between us.

They're genuinely afraid of those people who come down to "gild their resumes," constantly changing their tune and saying this and that. In the end, they not only accomplish nothing but also waste a lot of time. It's good to be a technical person; with technical skills, you either have them or you don't, without all those convoluted schemes.

"Alright, Director Yan, I'll leave that person to you. I have to go back and report..." Seeing how quickly Wang Shouren had integrated, Officer Sun was happy to have some free time.

He came over to emphasize the importance of Wang Shouren, and to put it simply, not to be negligent.

It seems that Director Yan understands the importance of this matter, so he can rest assured.
