Chapter 99: Starting Work Mode

After officially starting work, Wang Shouren did not immediately offer any opinions.

Any 5S management system requires different strategies to be developed for different factories.

Lathes occupy a significant portion of his plans. After all, the quality of a lathe often directly translates to production output. Of course, researching lathes might not be his current focus.

However, since we're already here...

Of course I have to take a look.

"Shouren, Secretary Li gave me instructions before we came. What do you think I should do?" Xu Jiaguo seemed quite excited; this was his first time going on a mission with someone else. For the past year, his main task had been handling documents for Secretary Li, and he felt like he'd become rusty. Now that he finally had a chance to go out, he naturally wanted to prove himself.

"Follow me."

"Then what."

"It's gone."

"That's all?!" Xu Jiaguo raised an eyebrow. "Is there nothing I can do?"

Wang Shouren rolled his eyes and uttered Xu Jiaguo's extremely familiar words again. A year ago, when Xu Jiaguo asked him why he was so good, Wang Shouren had said the same thing to him: "Watch carefully and learn well."

However, that time, he really studied and learned from Wang Shouren.

But he really couldn't stand sitting in the library all day long.

It wasn't that he lacked the patience, but rather that studying with Wang Shouren could easily shatter his resolve.

When Wang Shouren picked up a book, he could not only absorb the knowledge in the book in a short time, but he could also apply what he learned to other books. He could often learn an entire system of knowledge on his own.

But he couldn't do it; in this line of work, rote memorization is useless.

Hearing Wang Shouren say this, he felt somewhat helpless, but he still followed along.

He wanted to see just how brilliant this former genius was at handling these matters, and how he could impress the leaders.

When he actually got to work, he realized just how outrageous Wang Shouren's work ability was. Before he came, he had already studied some of Wang Shouren's past examples, but when he actually arrived at the scene, he was a little dumbfounded.

Assembling a lathe is no easy task.

All sorts of parts, all sorts of processes, all sorts of craftsmen—all he felt was a sense of chaos.

It was extremely chaotic, completely unlike the factory he had imagined.

However, judging from Wang Shouren's expression, it seemed as if he had expected this all along.

He didn't say anything, just stood there silently, taking notes in a notebook, occasionally going up to ask them questions. Because of their positions, the workshop director knew them and basically answered all their questions.

He originally thought that this kind of life would last for a long time.

Who knew that in the afternoon, Wang Shouren pulled him aside for a short meeting. When he finally saw what was in the notebook, a word flashed through his mind—genius.

Yes, an absolute genius! He hadn't seen many steps in the morning, but Wang Shouren had already broken one step down into over twenty. He even marked the difficulty of each step, and included some of the master craftsman's complaints. Simply amazing!

"Shouren, what's wrong with your brain? I just can't think of that," Xu Jiaguo remarked.

"Watch carefully, learn well, think more, and you'll gain experience." Wang Shouren didn't even look up. "Tomorrow, you can break down the simpler procedures. Leave the complex ones to me; we can work together better."

“But, isn’t it a bit too detailed that you’ve disassembled it like this?” Xu Jiaguo asked, looking at Wang Shouren’s notebook.

"Don't worry, it's not about implementing it exactly as stated here, it's just to see how difficult it is. It's about considering the overall capabilities required for this position."

In fact, Wang Shouren had always wanted to pursue a refined assembly line, breaking down a single job into several, recognizing that the difficulty of a part varies, and separating the process was the right way. However, in those days, people basically worked while chatting, occasionally stopping to boast. Why? Because the parts they were making were all single units.

Once a certain number of workpieces are completed each day, the task is considered finished.

After all, if you do more work, your salary won't increase.

This is all determined according to one's own level.

Therefore, Wang Shouren had no intention of splitting up positions at all. Why split up positions when the 5S management system alone could increase production?

Another point is that if you really want to break down the job positions, you actually can't.

The workload has increased dramatically, by at least three levels. Who can stand that?

Before the Lunar New Year, a high-ranking leader inquired about this topic. He likely understood the advantages and disadvantages, asking if Wang Shouren had a way to implement it. However, Wang Shouren didn't accept the offer. Implementation wasn't difficult; controlling the workers' emotions was.

He didn't say anything, and the senior leader didn't continue.

Just tell him to do his job properly.

This understanding was only shared between the two of them.

However, both of them also knew that this was a kind of reform that was bound to be implemented in parallel.

So, Wang Shouren came here this time to try and see if the "boiling frog in lukewarm water" method would work. He'd set a precedent, and if the factory's leadership wanted to increase production, they'd have to continue refining his approach.

Sometimes, just getting started is enough.

This survey took a long time, required attention to every workstation, and involved a lot of work in all aspects.

However, it also allowed Wang Shouren to better understand how backward lathes were in that era.

He rarely stayed in the office; after all, he and Xu Jiaguo were his superiors, and nobody likes sharing a room with their superior. In any era, many people enjoy slacking off; if they can avoid making a fuss, they'll avoid it.

For a moment, both of them became barely noticeable.

Two weeks have passed in the blink of an eye.

Wang Shouren had toured almost all the workshops and made a detailed plan for the production efficiency, speed, and manpower of each workshop.

Furthermore, a clear division of labor was established for each of the various processes.

"I don't understand," Xu Jiaguo asked while tidying up, "My version is clearly better."

“Yes, your version is better.” Wang Shouren rolled his eyes: “With your mindset, you can only say you’re lucky to be able to get by in the ministry.”

"What do you mean?" Xu Jiaguo wasn't the kind of guy who wouldn't listen to advice. In the ministry, he was walking on thin ice, afraid of being demoted.
