"Okay, we'll do it your way."
"Let's go, let's hurry up and rent a truck. We'll drive around the area, collect whatever we can, and then bring back building materials."
At 2:30 p.m., the two drove to the car rental window in the service hall. The window was deserted, and the staff member was dozing off with his head propped up on his arm.
Zhou Pin stepped forward and knocked on the window.
"We'd like to rent a small truck to transport building materials for renovations. How much will it cost?"
"5 points per hour, 100 points per day, 1000 points for deposit, and 10 points per liter for gasoline."
"We have gasoline, we'll rent it for five hours."
Xu Lin handed over her ID card, swiped 1025 points, signed a rental contract with the staff, and then took the deposit slip and rental contract to pick up the car.
There were five or six small trucks, two large trucks, as well as cars and SUVs parked at the pickup location. Zhou Pin chose a relatively new small truck to drive, while Xu Lin drove the SUV. The two of them left the base together.
After leaving the base, there were many cars and pedestrians on the road, all out looking for supplies. The two of them didn't have much hope for this trip, and drove north towards higher ground.
The area around the base has probably been looted by someone, so Xu Lin wanted to find some saplings to move into her space to plant.
Half an hour later, the car wound its way around and came to a stop at the foot of a mountain.
The trees on the nearby hills either died from flooding during the torrential rains, froze to death during the extreme cold, or withered to death from the current extreme heat. The surviving ones were probably dug up and exchanged for supplies. The two had no choice but to give up, move the decoration textbooks from their space to the truck, and head back.
"I originally wanted to be a scavenger to find supplies in the neighborhood, but now I have to give that up and just stay home and focus on my farming and animal husbandry!"
The truck was carrying cement, bricks, doors, lime, paint, sofas, tables, stools and other household necessities back home. Along the way, it attracted a lot of onlookers, and some people even came up to ask where they found the supplies. Most of the furniture in the houses had been burned during the extreme cold.
The two returned to the villa area. One advantage of living in a remote area was that there were no neighbors around. Perhaps considering the high cost of metal railings, the yard was enclosed by a wall, which made it easy for Xu Lin to cheat and collect the supplies from the car with one click.
"It's ridiculous that I have to bring my own things back from outside before I can put them away."
"Better safe than sorry. How can we explain the renovation and building materials in our home if we don't do this?"
The two rested at home for a while and then went out to transport building materials twice. Around 7 p.m., Zhou Pin went to return the car, while Xu Lin tidied up the bedroom at home first.
Xu Lin asked Zhou Pin to transfer the refunded deposit to his card, so that Zhou Pin would have points if he went out on his own someday and wouldn't be penniless.
Xu Lin first cleaned the bedroom floor, then took out the easy-to-install and disassemble snap-on wood flooring and started laying it on the floor while the air conditioner fan was blowing.
When Zhou Pin returned, the entire bedroom had been made up, and the two of them sat on the floor and had a simple dinner.
The villa has electricity, and there are no power restrictions. As long as the electricity bill is paid on time every month, the two of them can continue working at night.
Xu Lin took out a curtain rod and curtains from her spatial storage and asked Zhou Pin to hang the curtains first, saying that having curtains would make her feel safe.
After hanging the curtains, Zhou Pin went outside to change the locks on the main door and the interior doors. The main door couldn't be changed, as it would look out of place, but the front door of the house had to be changed; safety first.
