The two didn't rest when they got home. They harvested all the vegetables in the yard and weeded the sweet potato field, keeping busy all afternoon.
The next evening, Zhou Pin returned from get off work and handed Xu Lin a box.
"What?"
"Open it and take a look."
"What a strange phone." Xu Lin opened the box; it was an electronic product that looked like a phone but wasn't quite one.
"This is a communicator. I've been busy with this for the past few days. It's similar to a mobile phone, but it doesn't have as many functions as the smartphones we used before. It can still make calls and send messages without any problems. However, due to a shortage of raw materials, the screen is a bit small."
"My boyfriend is amazing!"
"The communicator is solar-powered and can also be charged. This is the power button on the side," Zhou Pin said, pressing the button to turn on the phone.
"They've had phone calls and text messages, what is this 'Voice of the Base'?"
"It's an official platform where you can see announcements from the base, post ads, buy things, and so on."
"good."
"The screen is small and has fewer functions, so the battery consumes less power. A full charge can last for half a month."
"That's impressive."
"The base's signal tower has just been successfully built, and we can use it to communicate from now on."
"After a year of internet abstinence, I never imagined I'd be able to get my hands on a communicator in my lifetime."
"There are many more possibilities in the future. By the way, we've made some progress on that reborn person."
"How so?"
"His name is Li Long. He's from Nan Province. Before the apocalypse, he worked in Beijing. Now he's in charge of the supplies exchange department in the service hall. He should have been reborn at the very beginning of the apocalypse."
How did you know?
“There’s someone in our department who’s from the same hometown as him. They have a hometown association. At the beginning of the apocalypse, this group split into two factions: one wanted to go back to their hometown, and the other wanted to stay in Beijing.”
"He initially said he wanted to go home, but then one day he suddenly announced that he would stay in Beijing?" Xu Lin asked.
"Yes, you're such a clever little devil."
"He must have exchanged quite a few things at the goods exchange department."
"I suspect that the cellar was just one of his storage locations for supplies."
"We're all in the same boat. If he poses no threat to us, we can all go our separate ways."
"Are you free tomorrow?" Zhou Pin suddenly asked.
"Tomorrow I'm fertilizing the flowers in the flower bed by the door, and the strawberries I planted before are ripening, so I'm planning to pick a few. Is there anything I can do for you?"
"I also heard today that there's a hill to the east of the base with nice rocks on it."
"Wake me up tomorrow morning, and I'll go check on things." Xu Lin's eyes lit up instantly.
"Okay, it's far away, it might take a whole day to get there. Go to bed early tonight." Zhou Pin touched his nose and continued eating.
After finishing their meal, the two chatted for a while. Xu Lin noticed that Zhou Pin seemed a bit out of sorts, probably because he had been working too hard lately, and told him to get some rest.
The next day, Xu Lin woke up early without Zhou Pin having to call her. She hadn't received any supplies for a long time and couldn't wait any longer. If she hadn't been afraid of Zhou Pin scolding her, she would have stayed up all night.
After breakfast, Zhou Pin went to work, while Xu Lin drove to the hill Zhou Pin had mentioned.
"Don't forget to call me when you get to your destination, so I can check the signal."
"Okay!" Xu Lin eagerly opened the car door and set off.
"That heartless bastard!" Zhou Pin said casually.
"Who are you talking about! Don't talk about our Linlinzi!" Wang Jing jumped out from behind Zhou Pin.
"Okay, okay, I won't say anything, let's get to work!" Zhou Pin surrendered, and the group started working on the mangoes.
