Chapter 212 Shop Renovation

Xu Lin handed Lao Zheng several sheets of paper: one panoramic view and several detailed maps of each location.

"It looks good, there's basically nothing that needs to be changed," Old Zheng said from a professional perspective after looking at it for a while.

"Let's get started then. Just tell me what you need me to do." Xu Lin tied on her apron and rubbed her hands together, eager to get started.

"First, sand the wall surface, then we'll apply the paint." After saying that, Old Zheng began to demonstrate.

The two finished sanding the walls in one morning, and at 11 a.m., Zhou Pin came to deliver lunch.

Lunch consisted of braised pork, hot and sour bean sprouts, cabbage stew with glass noodles, and a seafood soup.

"No need for such a grand affair for our own people, it's too extravagant," Uncle Zheng said, waving his hands repeatedly as he looked at the dishes.

"No need for formalities, you've been helping us with the work, so you'll definitely have to eat your fill. This is just some simple home-cooked food," Xu Lin said.

After dinner, Xu Lin said she wanted to rest for a while, but Lao Zheng insisted on working. Zhou Pin told Xu Lin to go home and rest, and he would do the work, calling it a balance between work and rest.

Xu Lin didn't argue with him. She took the lunchbox home and said she would bring him dinner that evening.

When Xu Lin arrived at five o'clock in the evening, the store had been completely transformed; the walls had been painted and the counter had been completed.

"Xiao Zhou said if you're not coming tomorrow, we'll set up the counter first and see if you like it. The shelves don't matter if they look good or not," Old Zheng said with a smile.

"I love it! This is exactly the counter I've always dreamed of. You guys are amazing!" Xu Lin said with great satisfaction.

"Then I'll build the shelves according to the blueprints tomorrow, and I guarantee a smooth opening the day after tomorrow," Old Zheng said confidently.

"Okay, let's eat first." Xu Lin was hungry.

Dinner consisted of stir-fried pork, chicken stew with mushrooms, braised fish, and seaweed and tofu soup. Old Zheng offered some polite words before finally starting to eat.

After dinner, the three of them went home. Xu Lin took out her communicator and checked the base's voice chat. Someone was already uploading short videos.

"When will the shopping module be ready?" Xu Lin asked anxiously.

"About a week. We'll go to Jinshi tomorrow and open for business the day after," Zhou Pin said.

"Is my career hindering yours?" Xu Lin asked.

"My career is meant to support you, so don't think too much about it. Go to sleep; you have to get up early tomorrow."

The two went to bed early and set off at 2 a.m. the next day in order to return that same day.

Although it was 2 a.m., it was still daytime outside. Now there is only one hour of darkness each day, and the rest of the time it is daytime. Xu Lin was wondering why the temperature should be very high with such long daytime. Zhou Pin said that the Earth's orbit may have changed, and it is farther away from the sun, so the temperature is not that high.

This also has its advantages: longer sunshine hours shorten the growth cycle of various crops, and with the addition of new varieties researched at the base, a crop can be harvested in about one or two months, thus solving the hunger problem.

With the hunger problem solved, people will pursue a better standard of living, which means people will buy seafood, right? Xu Lin became happier and happier as she thought about it.

They took the official road and the journey was relatively smooth. They had grain in their vehicle, which they planned to exchange for seafood with the locals.

Upon arriving at the market, vendors were already setting up their stalls, all selling freshly caught fish. Since it was Xu Lin's first time selling fish, she didn't plan to deal in any deep-sea fish; she would simply buy some from the locals to test the waters.

Because Xu Lin traded grain for fish, the fishermen quickly gathered at their stalls, selling dozens of kilograms here and there, and soon the truck was full.

Xu Lin checked the time and it was only a little past 10 o'clock. She packed her things and prepared to return to the base, hoping to catch the evening market rush.
