On the way back, things weren't so lucky. There were two groups of robbers on the road. When Xu Lin saw them brandishing their gleaming knives, she just shot them dead. Since she would be making a living on this road in the future, she decided to intimidate them once and for all to save herself trouble later.
Because they used firearms, they didn't spend much time in between and arrived at the base at 3:30 pm. The two took turns driving and quickly ate some rice balls on the way before heading straight to the store.
Xu Lin named the shop "Wei Xian Fang". Old Zheng had already set up the shelves and was cleaning the shop, and the timing was just right.
The three of them worked together to lift the seafood out of the truck. To keep it fresh, they had put water tanks filled with seawater and oxygenation devices on their truck. Each water tank contained dozens of kilograms of fish. There were four water tanks in the truck, and another layer of dried seafood was placed on top of them.
“We didn’t think it through enough,” Xu Lin said.
They collect the goods by the kilogram, pouring in dozens of kilograms at a time, until the container is full, then it weighs several hundred kilograms.
"Luckily, this shop used to sell building materials and has a crane, otherwise the three of us would have had to carry the fish basin by basin," Old Zheng said, wiping his sweat.
After the water tank was removed, Xu Lin directed Zhou Pin to operate the crane to place it around the store and put the dried goods on the shelves.
The moment the seafood was being transported, it attracted the attention of the surrounding businesses. Around three or four in the afternoon, when things were quiet, everyone came out to watch. Once the tanks were brought inside, people came over to inquire.
"Are you open for business?" a young girl asked at the door.
"We're open for business, come in and have a look," Xu Lin quickly greeted the guests.
The girl, who was probably around twenty years old, circled the tank, pointed at the crucian carp, and asked, "How much are the crucian carp?"
"8 points per pound. You're the store's first customer, so we'll give you 6 points."
"Weigh these two for me," the girl said, pointing to the two swimming the most enthusiastically.
"It weighs 9 jin (4.5 catties) in total, 54 points." Xu Lin said with a smile as she weighed the item.
The little girl swiped her card at the points machine and then walked away with the fish.
The points-based credit card machine was also obtained by Zhou Pin. Xu Lin felt that apart from the idea, everything else about the store was taken care of by others.
Five or six people had already come in by then; they were all shop owners from the surrounding area, some buying fresh fish and others buying dried goods.
Li Jingjing and Wang Jing also came over. Xu Lin sent them a message as soon as she arrived at the base. Originally, she asked them to come and make purchases, but the two of them ended up becoming sales clerks. Lao Zheng also didn't leave and helped Zhou Pin weigh the products. Xu Lin was only responsible for collecting money.
Within two hours, the seafood was sold out, leaving only a few dried goods on the shelves. The group of people sat on small stools, exhausted, and drank water.
"It's not cheap at all, so why is it like it's free?" Wang Jing wondered.
“We think it’s not cheap, but rich people don’t think it’s expensive. Besides, we don’t eat it every day. We just want to eat something new! It’s been almost two years since the apocalypse,” Li Jingjing said.
"I've set aside some seafood for everyone; we'll take it with us when we leave," Xu Lin said while doing the accounting.
"Why keep it for us when it's so expensive?" Wang Jing said.
“Okay, then I’ll pay you for your help,” Xu Lin said.
"Don't be shy, we'll accept the seafood," Li Jingjing said.
So when the three of them left, each of them carried two fish and a bag of starfish.
Xu Lin and Zhou Pin tidied up the shop quickly and went home. They were exhausted after working from 2 a.m. to 7 p.m.
After returning home and eating the stir-fried dishes they had taken from the space, the two of them washed up and rested. They would take stock of everything after they woke up.
