Chapter 270 Dealing with the Intruders

Xu Lin walked out of the fence gate.

"An explanation? What kind of explanation do you want?" Xu Lin said.

When the person who had been shouting saw someone come out, he paused for a moment, then pointed at the corpse on the ground and said, "Look at what you've done to my brother, you..."

“Don’t talk nonsense. How did I harm your brother? He was obviously trying to steal something and ended up falling into a trap and dying,” Xu Lin said.

"They fell into your trap and died!" the man insisted.

"The trap is right here. I didn't send him to steal anything."

"Enough with the nonsense! Either pay with your life or compensate us for our losses!"

I realized they were asking for supplies.

"Paying for his life is out of the question. He fell to his death while stealing, it has nothing to do with me. Go find whoever wants it, and stop babbling here. If you don't leave, I'll unleash my dogs!"

After Xu Lin finished speaking, she turned around to go back. In the instant she turned around, the other party hit her with a stick. In the blink of an eye, Xu Lin turned around and slashed at the other party with a 1.5-meter-long broadsword.

The other side was not to be outdone and swarmed forward. Zhou Pin, Sun Wei, and Li Jingjing took out knives to fight back.

The scene was quite bloody at one point, but Xu Lin's side ultimately won a great victory by annihilating the enemy.

The other side's two children were also killed by their own men in the melee.

Blood flowed like a river on the ground. Xu Lin and the other three went directly to the mountainside to fetch seawater to wash the bodies. Then they found a pit and burned the corpses.

After they finished packing, it was already noon. The four of them didn't have time to rest and went to where the people were staying. They had quite a lot of supplies. If they hadn't coveted Xu Lin and the others' supplies, they could have lived very well with just these supplies.

Their supplies were stored in a cave, with tents set up outside for living. The cave was quite cold, and contained hundreds of boxes of bottled water, hundreds of boxes of instant noodles and dried noodles, as well as rice, flour, and oil, along with toiletries, clothes, shoes, and medicine. These supplies were either previously hidden there or scavenged from elsewhere.

The four of them carried the supplies from the cave back to the courtyard. Xu Lin suggested dividing the supplies by number of people, while Sun Wei suggested dividing them by household. Xu Lin, Zhou Pin, and their two dogs also reached an agreement to divide the supplies equally into two portions, which were then split between the two households.

With so many new supplies, the two families decided to have dinner together that evening to celebrate. Xu Lin, Grandma Wu, and Li Jingjing prepared dinner, while Zhou Pin and Sun Wei went halfway up the mountain to collect the boats belonging to those people.

Xu Lin had her eye on their boat as soon as they arrived; with a boat, they could go to the next mountain to find supplies.

We had dumplings for dinner, with shepherd's purse and chive fillings. The five of us ate 150 of them, which was so satisfying.

The dogs were finally able to eat the dog food they'd been craving—the very supplies those people had been providing. This gave the group a new idea: dog food could also be used as supplies; it had a long shelf life, was nutritious, and easy to carry—truly an essential item for post-apocalyptic living and traveling.

Originally, Grandma Wu said she would give all the dog food to Xu Lin since they didn't own a dog, but Xu Lin refused, saying that dog food could also be used as human food in a critical moment, and insisted on splitting it equally between the two families.

The poor dogs will only have this one meal; they'll have to find their own food later.

After the group finished eating, Sun Wei suggested that they go out to sea to fish or take a boat to check out the neighboring mountain, as the harvest there was almost complete.

“I suggest that our two families take turns going out to find supplies. There has to be one of us watching over the place. We have walkie-talkies, so we can contact each other immediately if there are any problems,” Zhou Pin said.

He would never admit that he wanted to travel alone with Xu Lin so that it would be easier to collect things.
