Chapter 5 Neighbors

"I can follow behind you, like a shadow chasing the light in a dream. I can wait at this crossroads, regardless of whether you will pass by..."

The familiar alarm clock sounded again, signaling another beautiful day. Xu Lin stretched and got out of bed, letting her consciousness enter the space.

Good heavens! The water in the warehouse is still steaming, and the garlic sprouts in the vegetable garden are an inch taller than those in the warehouse. Rebirth novels really do live up to their reputation.

After making herself a simple breakfast and tidying up, the installation technicians arrived one after another. Because it was the off-season, the plumber even brought two apprentices to practice on. The plumbers installed boilers and modified underfloor heating in her home. Xu Lin went to chat with the technician who was installing doors across the hall and "incidentally" got to know her new neighbor in apartment 801.

The new neighbor was not very talkative. Apart from Xu Lin greeting him and him introducing himself as Zhou Pin, he spent the rest of the time listening to Xu Lin and the installation technician chatting.

"It's rare to see a triple-security door like yours," the installer said.

“I have paranoia, so having an extra door provides an extra layer of peace of mind,” Xu Lin said with a smile.

"That's true, girls need to be safety conscious," the installer said.

When the door was being installed for Xu Lin, 801 came over to help. Seeing the huge construction work on Xu Lin's house, 801 looked at Xu Lin thoughtfully and then asked the craftsman if he had time to renovate 801 as well. The craftsman readily agreed and would go to 801 as soon as he finished his work here.

Xu Lin suddenly had a bold idea. Before she could learn more about apartment 801, he suggested installing a security door at the stairwell. Since her own apartment had just been replaced, Xu Lin appeared indifferent on the surface, but her heart was churning with excitement.

By the end of the morning, the renovations at Xu Lin's house were basically complete. After paying the final payment, she still had 250,000 yuan left. The door installer also installed the door at the bottom of the stairs, and told them that he wouldn't be involved if the property management came knocking.

Xu Lin decided to go out for lunch and then do some shopping. She chose to eat hot pot at the food street. Eating hot pot alone wasn't so lonely, right? Ignoring the strange looks from those around her, Xu Lin ate until she was drenched in sweat.

After finishing her meal, Xu Lin strolled around the food street. Each restaurant had ordered 100 portions of each dish under the guise of company employee meals, to be picked up every evening.

The deposits from several stores totaled 20,000 yuan, leaving 230,000 yuan in hand. The shop owners were all smiles at the big spender, voluntarily rounding down the amount and even giving away a lot of disposable chopsticks and napkins.

Xu Lin lives in a port city that is a large trading port, facing Xiao Rizi Country across the sea. After lunch, she rented a warehouse near the trading port for two months, which cost 40,000 yuan. She also hired a retired old man for 3,000 yuan a month to guard the gate and sign for express deliveries during the day.

After arranging the warehouse and the old man, it was already 4 PM. Xu Lin rushed to the city's largest agricultural wholesale market, found the person in charge, and used the excuse of opening a chain supermarket and holding a promotional event to send all kinds of vegetables, fruits, grains, oils and seasonings to the warehouse in batches according to the quantities on the shopping list. In the apocalypse, vegetables are hard to come by.

I paid a deposit of 50,000 yuan, inquired about the location of the seed wholesale market from the person in charge of the wholesale market, and ordered half a kilogram of each kind of vegetable and fruit seed. I only wanted the original seeds, not hybrid ones.

The small garden space is perfect for planting, allowing for self-sufficiency and seed saving for sustainable development. The seeds were quite expensive, over 20,000 yuan, but the owner rounded it down and even gave Xu Lin a free USB drive with planting instructions for various grains, vegetables, and fruits, complete with text and videos. This truly touched Xu Lin's heart.
