Chapter 69: The Return of the Amnesiac Player – A Silent But Impressive Event.
“Gabriel, kill me.”
As the words fell, the Seraphim plunged the holy sword, gleaming with platinum light, into the Father's chest.
A dazzling light shone in all directions, and the holy light swirled among the clouds. The vast and melodious divine music echoed and reverberated. In this sacred land of ultimate goodness and beauty, in the boundless river of time and space, a supreme and solemn figure collapsed and peacefully fell asleep in an eternal dream.
The image flashed by in an instant, and Wen Yue suddenly woke up.
It's so strong, I'm dreaming of going to heaven.
Wen Yue breathed a sigh of relief, but when she looked up, she realized she had relaxed too soon.
The boundless sea meets the sky, where the clear blue of the waves meets the pale white of the sea. The orange-red sunrise casts golden rays across the sky, turning the sea into a shimmering gold, and the air is exceptionally fresh.
"The mother box is useful."
"He came back to life."
As she heard voices, Wen Yue looked up and saw a perfect face. His eyes were deep and blue, as vast as the starry sky, and his features were sculpted with sharp angles and a high nose bridge—where did this ancient Greek sculpture come from?
With a shifty gaze, Wen Yue noticed three other figures beside her: a tall, burly man with sharp eyes and bronze skin; a dashing, beautiful, and powerful older sister who exuded the aura of a warrior; and at the end, a half-human, half-machine guy who looked like a Terminator.
Wen Yue's gaze lingered on the big S and trident logos on the chests of the two closest people, then glanced at the familiar outfits of the other two, and hesitantly asked, "Are you cosplaying?"
Players are silent until they make a stunning entrance. Their minds suddenly go blank, their mouths, not to be outdone, spewing nonsense.
The scene fell silent for a moment.
Aquaman Arthur broke the silence first: "I think we might have resurrected the wrong person." This didn't fit his image of Batman.
"Or did you dig up the wrong grave?" Steelbone found one extremely rare possibility among millions of possibilities.
"He is Batman," Superman declared confidently, shattering his teammates' wild guesses: "He is Bruce Wayne."
"I'm not..." Wen Yue was about to deny it when she moved her hand, causing ripples. She suddenly realized that she was soaking in water, her collar slightly open, revealing her sickly pale skin, bloodless and lifeless like jade.
Lowering her eyes, Wen Yue saw her reflection clearly in the gradually calming water. Her long, thick eyelashes drooped, her eyes held an unreadable expression, revealing an unfathomable mystery. Her thin lips were pressed together, exuding a chilling aura. Changing the subject, she added, "But it could also be true."
Where did she end up? It seems she inexplicably time-traveled.
Wen Yue remembered receiving a beta test slot for a Batman simulation game. After clicking "start game," everything went black, and in the blink of an eye, she found herself here. Players just want to play a game, not actually become Batman.
“He doesn’t seem to be thinking straight.” Wonder Woman noticed the player’s unfamiliar attitude towards everyone and his bewildered reactions after waking up.
“I suggest using the Mother Box again for treatment.” Aquaman turned around, his brow furrowed in surprise: “Wait, where’s the Mother Box?”
When Batman was resurrected, the Mother Box was blasted away by the energy burst. Everyone immediately surrounded the resurrected hero, and no one noticed that the Mother Box, which had been floating on the sea, had disappeared without a trace, leaving only the desolate sea breeze blowing sadly by.
“Victor, what did you see…” Aquaman was about to ask Cyborg when Wonder Woman’s pupils constricted, sensing something amiss: “Something’s wrong, get out of the way!”
"Parademons, die." Cyborg, who was closest to where the Mother Box disappeared, stood in mid-air, his eyes indifferent and devoid of humanity. The mech's weapon systems activated layer by layer, and the sonic cannons in his hands aimed at the group. He fired without hesitation amidst the heartbroken cries of his teammates.
The piercing sound waves caused tinnitus and dizziness to overwhelm Wen Yue's brain, forcing fragile players to lie down first.
The scene, both unfamiliar and familiar, profoundly illustrates that when there is no real threat, teammates are the biggest threat.
"Victor, what's wrong?" Wonder Woman's protective silver bracelets formed a protective field, firmly resisting the attack and shielding everyone behind her.
Despite the tinnitus and dizziness, her brain raced, and Wen Yue, familiar with DC storylines, stated the setting instead of answering: "Cyborg's armor is Apokoliptian technology, and it is controlled by Apokoliptian."
"I think the one who's really not quite lucid is Cyborg." The player only has amnesia; his mind is still sharp, and he's as witty as ever.
Wen Yue stared at Steelbone's empty eyes, which flashed red light, making him look like a real robot, even more like the Terminator than the Terminator himself. "It seems he's immersed in the illusion created by the Mother Box, treating us as enemies. He just called us Parademons."
The sonic cannon caused a stun effect, combined with the high single-target damage of the point-blank cannon, and the wide-range group attack of the laser beam. It seemed that he had encountered a deep-seated grudge in the illusion.
The Mother Box disappears, Cyborg attacks his teammates, and a series of details that occur in a short period of time are linked to the plot. Players can deduce the general picture of the event from these small details.
"Is our enemy Darkseid? Has Steppenwolf come to Earth to raid our base? How many Mother Boxes have we lost?" Wen Yue lay weakly in Superman's arms. Her reliable teammate steadily led the player to avoid Cyborg's ray attack. The player didn't even feel any jolt. She focused on the current situation and asked for key information.
"Steppenwolf is already on Earth, and with this, we've lost two Mother Boxes." Scorching red lasers filled the sky. Respecting Cyborg as an ally, Superman didn't dare to act recklessly, and simply led the players to a dodge.
Where is the last one?
“At your house,” Superman replied, “below Wayne Manor.”
The waves roared and surged angrily, their immense power blotting out the sky as they crashed down upon Cyborg. Taking advantage of the sea, Aquaman, wielding his trident, was a force to be reckoned with. Today, Aquaman, once a fringe observer in the Justice League, shone brightly as a key offensive force.
Although Cyborg's high-tech equipment made him immune to water, he was no match for the combined strength of Ocean Master and Wonder Woman. He was at a disadvantage in a head-on battle and lost without any doubt after a prolonged fight.
Da Chao, the top-ranked player, spent the entire battle on the sidelines while holding Wen Yue, and landed next to his three teammates after the battle.
“Victor has been controlled by Apokolips for some time now. Our original plans and intentions may have been under Darkseid’s surveillance all along.” Superman bent down and gently put Wen Yue down.
"Batman, the Justice League has just been formed, Green Lantern is still in space and hasn't returned, and Flash is currently working with your Bat-family. What should we do next?" Regarding the response to the Apokolips army and Darkseid, they have been following the plan left by the player.
"Well, Batman should have a backup plan." Wen Yue's eyes revealed a clear confusion as she cautiously asked, "So, do you have one?" Did Batman give them a Plan B?
The group looked at each other, and Da Chao shook his head regretfully.
"You're Batman, I should be asking you." Aquaman brandished his trident and raised his hand to calm the raging waves caused by the previous battle.
"I don't know." The sea breeze chilled the player's heart. Wen Yue shivered and hugged herself tightly. She was just a pitiful, small, and innocent ordinary player. It was too much to ask her to be the Batman who could predict everything.
In Cyborg's mind, the illusion constructed by the Mother Box was gradually torn apart. The bizarre and false reality shattered, and the dreamlike bubble dissipated, revealing the mottled real world hidden beneath the illusion. He struggled to regain his clarity of mind.
Recalling his uncontrollable actions, Cyborg avoided his teammates' gaze: "I lost control just now and teleported the Mother Box away. It should be in Steppenwolf's hands now. And the illusion created by the Mother Box... I'm sorry, I think I should leave the team." He couldn't control when the next illusion from the Mother Box would appear, and in this situation, staying away from his teammates was the best course of action.
"That was the effect of the Mother Box's illusion, not your fault, Victor." The gentle sea breeze ruffled Wonder Woman's long, wavy brown hair, reflecting the dawn's light. Beneath the warrior's resolute exterior lay a soft heart, gentle yet full of strength.
Cyborg silently shook his head. He didn't leave the team because of guilt or because of attacking his teammates, but because of his uncontrollable behavior. He was worried that he would be unable to escape the control of Apokolips and the influence of the Mother Box and would become a burden.
“You can overcome the illusion of the Mother Box on your own; there’s no need to leave the team because of it.” Wen Yue couldn’t let the true protagonist of this Apokolips invasion war leave, so she tried her best to persuade him: “The Mother Box stores countless memories and knowledge, but it doesn’t understand humanity and love. I think the Mother Box must have told you in the illusion that compromise and surrender would get you everything you want. However, your justice and kindness overcame the temptation of the devil, and your firm will overcame your desires. There is no doubt that you have the qualities of a hero; you are a member of the Justice League.”
Cyborg didn't take the players' encouraging words to heart and calmly analyzed the pros and cons: "Rather than keeping a ticking time bomb around, which could drag the whole team down at crucial moments, letting me leave the team is the best option."
"Besides, my combat abilities are still too weak compared to yours. I'm dispensable in the team. The only useful thing about me is this high-tech equipment, which may be affected and manipulated by Apokolips. There's no need for me to drag you down." Cyborg didn't want to be a deserter. He would investigate and monitor the vanguard sent by Apokolips in the digital world on his own. "After that, I will act alone. If I get any useful information, I will pass it on to you."
As the Lasso of Truth fell, Wonder Woman released her restraints on Cyborg and comforted him, "Don't underestimate yourself, Victor. Your abilities are just beginning; you're still exploring them and haven't reached your peak yet."
Wen Yue agreed with Wonder Woman: "Indeed, the power you have shown so far is just the tip of the iceberg. Your potential is limitless, and you are the decisive factor in this battle."
Connecting this to the later storylines of DC, players understand Cyborg's importance: "We need your ability to communicate with the Mother Box. Your abilities originate from the Mother Box; you can connect to it and are the only one among us capable of opening and closing the Boom Channel. The Apokolips Legion is coming soon. Now is your time. The fate of the world is in your hands. The world needs you, Victor."
Aquaman has not only a kingdom in his heart, but also the world. He once understood Cyborg's feelings when he was lost: "We come from different worlds, but fate has brought us together to fight side by side. Now we are on the same side, and the alliance deserves your place."
Superman placed his hand on Cyborg's shoulder, silently conveying warmth and support, "We're fighting together, you're not alone."
A deep warmth welled up in his heart. At that moment, Steelbone seemed to sense something; this was the team.
Sunlight spills across the shimmering sea, scattering countless shimmering fragments of gold. The era of superheroes has arrived. Heroes with immense power form alliances, united by their sense of justice, to fight against external enemies. They are not alone; they fight bravely.

Author's Note: —Amnesia allows players to see their subordinates (specifically, the player's bat-like birds) from the perspective of an ordinary person and a victim. Hehehe!
