Just then, Lu Qiqi pulled Jin up and pushed her towards Lu Dazhuang.
Once Jin was free, she hugged Lu Dazhuang and began to wail and curse, "You heartless bastards! I provided you with food and clothing, and you dared to lay a hand on me!"
More and more people gathered outside, peering into the house. Lu Qiqi smiled; she wanted a large crowd.
"Provide us with food and clothing?" Lu Qiqi sneered.
“You guys were hiding inside eating millet, while my sister and I were drinking bitter vegetable water. The millet and noodles that Uncle gave us were all taken by you. After my older cousin finished eating, she came to tell us how delicious it was.”
"Is this what the eldest son is doing? Is it even human?"
"When the second son was still alive, he was the one who farmed all the family's fields. Who wouldn't envy someone with such a strong and capable body?"
"They even stole the food that their son-in-law gave them as relief; they're shameless."
Seeing that the situation was getting out of control, Lu Changping also became anxious: "It's obvious that you sisters stole things, your hands are not clean."
"Children without parents are ill-mannered. They dared to steal. It's a good thing the eldest son didn't beat them to death."
These villagers are adept at changing their tune depending on the wind blowing; whichever way the wind blows, they'll lean in that direction.
Lu Qiqi took it all in. She turned slightly to the side and said, "My sister and I sleep under tattered blankets and on straw. We eat bitter vegetables every day. Your main house is locked up all day long. What could we possibly steal?"
Knowing he was in the wrong, and with so many villagers outside, Lu Dazhuang couldn't think of anything to say.
Lu Qiqi pressed her advantage, "Since our uncle's family treats us sisters so badly, we might as well sever ties and go our separate ways from now on."
Hearing Lu Qiqi's words, everyone gasped. This girl was incredibly bold, daring to say she would sever ties. If there were no men in the house, who knows how much she would be humiliated.
"I heard from the village head that we're going to have to flee the famine the day after tomorrow. These two sisters are probably courting death."
Lu Dazhuang's eyelids twitched. He didn't think Lu Qiqi really dared to sever ties; she was just starving and trying to get food.
“We have done our best for your father, but you two are so disobedient that you even dared to hit your aunt. We can’t control you. From now on, let’s be strangers.”
Lu Qiqi coldly looked at Lu Dazhuang's hypocritical appearance, "The villagers present are all witnesses. If this family continues to slander us, we hope the villagers will uphold justice."
Lu Dazhuang helped Jin Shi leave, and the crowd gradually dispersed.
Hiding in the corner, Lu Yao looked at Lu Qiqi with teary eyes: "Sister, what are we going to do now?"
Lu Qiqi walked over and pulled Lu Yao into her arms, her eyes shining: "From now on, I'll take you out for drinks and meat."
