Chapter 71 Building a House

"Don't worry, Miss Jiang. Since you trust Shili Village so much, we will definitely not let you down," Village Chief Lu said excitedly.

He secretly decided that he would gather all the men in Shili Village to build houses, so that they wouldn't have to go to the town's docks to do hard labor and move things.

After leaving the silver, Jiang Hua took Jiang Jingyi back. She heard that the admission notices for Shifang Academy would be delivered tomorrow.

The students selected by the dean will send their enrollment cards three days in advance. Seeing that Jiang Jingyi was not nervous at all, Jiang Hua felt relieved. She had been worried that he would keep worrying about this matter.

However, when Jiang Hua and her friends passed by Aunt Liu's house, they discovered that Aunt Liu hadn't gone to set up her stall that day.

"Huahua, where have you been?" Aunt Liu greeted her warmly as she came out of the yard.

"Just got back from Shili Village," Jiang Hua replied. "Auntie, aren't you going to set up your stall today?"

"Sigh, let's not talk about it anymore," Aunt Liu sighed.

"Auntie, is business not good?" Jiang Hua asked suspiciously, rarely seeing Aunt Liu so worried.

"This business is probably not going to work out. The Xu family and the Xu family have also set up a stall at the market to sell this. They say that Lin Shuyan has figured out how the wolf tooth potatoes are made."

"I also got a small cart, and today I went to town to set up a stall. The price I'm selling is even cheaper than what we have at home," Aunt Liu said with a hint of helplessness.

She had no choice; she hadn't sold a single item all morning, so she might as well go home. After all, other people were selling them for less than hers.

"I see. Then Auntie, you should rest at home for a few days." Jiang Hua comforted her, "We'll think of another way after a few days."

"Huahua, do you have any other ideas?" Aunt Liu asked immediately.

She regretted asking the question as soon as it came out, remembering that Lin Shuyan and that rich young man had also taken away her shop's business in town. She realized that her question had unintentionally upset Huahua.

"Not yet. I've been busy pickling bamboo shoots at home lately. Do you want to come and help, Auntie? I'll pay you the same way as before," Jiang Hua asked.

"Huahua, your shop hasn't been doing very well lately. Why are you pickling so many bamboo shoots?" Aunt Liu asked, puzzled.

“It’s not that I want it, it’s that Mr. Shen from Mingyue Tower wants it. He wants to transport it to other places to sell,” Jiang Hua briefly mentioned.

"I see." Aunt Liu nodded. "Okay, then I'll go to the mountain to dig bamboo shoots tomorrow."

“Okay, Auntie, I’ll go with you tomorrow.” Jiang Hua nodded.

The next day.

Thinking that there was still plenty of time, Jiang Hua took Jiang Jingyi and Aunt Liu up the mountain to dig bamboo shoots.

Actually, there aren't many bamboo shoots in the bamboo forest outside Black Wind Mountain. She dug up about a hundred pounds of them a couple of days ago, and they're still drying in the yard.

Actually, it was also to deceive people. Although there was an inexhaustible supply of bamboo shoots and long beans in the space, they couldn't let people think that they were dug out out of thin air.

"Huahua, is that enough?" Aunt Liu said, noticing that the baskets the two women had brought were already full.

“Okay, Auntie, let’s go back first.” Jiang Hua picked up the basket full of bamboo shoots and took two more from Aunt Liu’s basket to lighten the load.

“Huahua, no need, I can carry it,” Aunt Liu said hurriedly.

"Auntie, I'm strong, let me do it." Jiang Hua didn't refuse anymore and took the lead.

Soon, they returned to the courtyard. As soon as Jiang Hua entered the courtyard, she noticed that there were far fewer bamboo shoots. Even Jiang Jingyi noticed it.

"What's wrong, Huahua?" Aunt Liu asked, noticing the strange expressions on their faces.

"Stepmother, has our house been robbed?" Jiang Jingyi asked.

"Maybe so. It's impossible for the bamboo shoots drying in the yard to just disappear into thin air." Jiang Hua put down the basket in her hand and laid out the bamboo shoots she had just dug up to dry in the yard.

"Good heavens, it really is!" Aunt Liu noticed that there were fewer bamboo shoots on the ground and saw that Jiang Hua was still drying them in the yard.

"Huahua, let's not put it away. What if someone comes to steal it again?"

"We're just waiting for them to come and steal it," Jiang Hua said casually.

We'll wipe them all out in one fell swoop then.

"Huahua, do you know when they'll come to steal it?"

"Maybe later, someone's home now," Jiang Hua said as she put down the basket she was carrying.

He then turned and went to the kitchen to check on the pickled bamboo shoots and green beans in the water vat. Luckily, no one had touched them.

We've already made an appointment with Mingyue Tower. After noon, Sun Nian and the others will come and take them away. I heard Shen Qingchuan say last time that he's planning to return to the capital in the next few days.

"Huahua, should I have Tianming come over later?" Aunt Liu asked with some concern, worried that she and her child might be bullied.

"Alright," Jiang Hua nodded, not refusing.

Aunt Liu was home alone, so Jiang Hua let her stay for lunch to avoid having to go back and cook.

Just after the group finished lunch, Sun Nian's carriage arrived with a large number of people. The cargo carriage also carried several large water vats for replacement.

“Miss Jiang, our boss has also arrived,” Sun Nian said respectfully as he stepped forward.

"Huahua, since you have guests, please take me back first," Aunt Liu said immediately, getting up to leave.

"Auntie, let me see you out." Jiang Hua saw Aunt Liu to the gate of the courtyard.

They happened to see Shen Qingchuan's luxurious carriage, and Shen Qingchuan happened to lift the curtain of the carriage, and their eyes met.

"Miss Jiang," Shen Qingchuan greeted her politely with a bow.

"Master Shen, it's an honor to have you here. Please come in and have a seat," Jiang Hua said politely.

Shen Qingchuan followed Jiang Hua without changing his expression and sat down in the courtyard.

"I never imagined that Miss Jiang lived in such a poor and humble place," Shen Qingchuan said tactfully.

“My stepmother is already building a new house. It’s my fault and my father didn’t do a good job with this house, which has made things difficult for her,” Jiang Jingyi said, pouring him a cup of tea.

"Oh, why doesn't Miss Jiang buy a courtyard house in town?" Shen Qingchuan asked curiously.

"I like living a simple and peaceful life in the village," Jiang Hua said casually.

“Miss Jiang doesn’t seem like the type to settle down and live a peaceful life.” Shen Qingchuan picked up the fragrant tea on the table and took a sip.

“I’ve been doing business in various parts of Dasheng for the past few years and have tasted all kinds of good tea. This is the first time I’ve tasted your tea. The aroma was already overflowing as soon as it was poured out,” Shen Qingchuan praised without reservation.

“Isn’t everything here good?” Jiang Hua said with a smile. “If Master Shen likes anything, I’ll pack some for you to take with you when you leave.”
