After the last mission, Xu Chen wasn't asked to do any more. Perhaps Tang Tiancheng was out of cigarettes and couldn't bring himself to ask. In short, aside from studying, he was quite relaxed.
"Brother Chen, tonight is my brother's engagement banquet with Su Yue. Can you come?" During the ten-minute break between classes, Zhao Weimin put down his pen and discussed attending the banquet with Xu Chen.
"Of course, where is it located?"
"It's at my house. When you get there, give me a call and I'll come out to meet you."
"The time was a bit rushed. You should have told me earlier. I didn't prepare any gifts."
"We're family, what gifts do we need? Your presence is the best gift."
"Brother Wei, what you're saying sounds so cheesy to me." Xu Chen crossed his arms and deliberately moved away from Zhao Weimin.
"You little brat."
That night, Xu Chen and Wang Li discussed attending the banquet. Wang Li frowned and then said, "Chenchen, you should go. I don't feel very comfortable at this kind of banquet."
"You can't not go! Wang Li, after you graduate and start working, you'll have to attend many of these kinds of social events. How can you avoid them? Be good, go change your clothes quickly, your husband will be by your side."
"Okay then." Wang Li reluctantly went into the bedroom, changed her clothes, and took Xu Chen's hand to go out and get in the car.
After a ten-minute drive, the two arrived at the Zhao family's manor. Upon arrival, Xu Chen and Wang Li encountered a variety of people dressed in luxurious clothes, making Xu Chen and Wang Li's casual attire stand out.
"Where did those two come from? Did the Zhao family invite them?"
"How rude! Dressing so casually for such a formal occasion, hahaha."
The crowd only discussed it verbally, since the only people who could be here besides those invited by the Zhao family were mentally ill people, and obviously the Zhao family wouldn't allow a mentally ill person to enter.
A few minutes later, the Zhao family servants opened the gate, and people walked in one way and cars in another. Several stewards checked the invitations at the door and entered one by one. Xu Chen took out his phone to call Zhao Weimin, but was bumped from behind.
"Can we go ahead without an invitation?" It was the same rich young master again, but instead of the usual rich young master and his entourage, it was the rich young master and his entire family.
"Son, come here, let's go in!" The tycoon ignored Xu Chen and looked at the rich young master behind him.
The rich young man squeezed in front of Xu Chen and Wang Li. As he squeezed past, he was about to reach out and flirt with Wang Li when she slapped his arm hard.
"Ouch, it hurts so much!" The rich young master clutched his right hand and collapsed to the ground. Everyone looked over, and Gao Shenghu, seeing his son screaming, quickly went to his side.
"Son, Xiaolong! What's wrong?"
"Dad, this woman hit me! She's so strong!" Gao Xiaolong pointed at Wang Li and complained.
Gao Shenghu glared angrily at Wang Li, "Did you hit my son? Men!" The bodyguards immediately took their positions, ready to attack Wang Li. Wang Li gestured for Xu Chen to step back, and Xu Chen obediently did so, a scene that stunned everyone present.
"Looks like this guy is a coward."
"Useless! Let the woman stand in front of you. Get ready, come with me to rescue the damsel in distress."
Several bodyguards immediately stepped forward, preparing to grab Wang Li's arms. Wang Li took the steel rod that Xu Chen had produced from who-knows-where and was about to knock down the bodyguards with a few blows when Zhao Weimin arrived at the main entrance with his men.
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, please have mercy!" Zhao Weimin stood in front of Gao Shenghu's bodyguards, mainly because today was a good day, and it wouldn't look good if an accident happened.
"Viagra? What brings you here? I haven't even called yet."
"The servants informed me of the conflict at the gate, so I quickly brought people over. I didn't expect it to be you, Chen Di, and Wang Li. Come in, Grandpa is waiting for you."
Some people were startled by this statement. Zhao Yi was waiting for this young man? Who was this brat? Gao Shenghu's face turned pale. He told his bodyguards to quickly send his wife and son home, but then turned around and went into the manor to attend the banquet. He was joking, how could he afford to offend someone that even Old Master Zhao Yi was waiting for? If he didn't appease this man, and he mentioned him to Old Master Zhao, all his decades of hard work might just vanish.
"Old Zhao, I'm here." As soon as they entered the villa, Xu Chen led Wang Li straight up to the third floor, where they found Zhao Yi sitting at the table with two bowls of tea.
"I hadn't considered this young lady." Zhao Yi smiled kindly at Wang Li, who nervously returned the smile, almost speechless.
"Lili, sit down." Xu Chen made room for Wang Li and pulled her to sit down. Then, he said to Zhao Yi, "Old Zhao, is there something you wanted to talk to me about?"
"Can't I come to you for no reason? Do you know that I treat you like my own grandson, just like Old Man Tang?"
"Nonsense! Have you ever seen a grandfather send his own grandson to the battlefield?"
“I’ve seen a lot.” Zhao Yi’s eyes were full of memories. Then he clapped his hands. “You kid, you have everything. Old Tang said you like this kind of cigarette. I’ll have them deliver it to your house later.”
Xu Chen looked at the several boxes of special-supply cigarettes and nodded repeatedly. "What are these cigarettes for? Do you have something for me to do again?"
"Thank you! Just thank you."
"Actually, there's no need for that. Now that I've accepted this official position, I'll naturally take responsibility. But Elder Zhao, it would be disrespectful of you not to accept your kind offer."
"You become much more polite once you receive benefits. You're such a mercenary." Old Zhao lit a cigarette and then asked, "Xu Chen, what do you think of the marriage alliance between our Zhao family and the Su family?"
“You shouldn’t ask me about this, Old Zhao. This is your family matter. You should ask your descendants.”
