"Wang Li, when Weisheng comes out, let's give him our blessings and leave. The pastries aren't very good, and I don't like drinking red wine." Xu Chen looked helplessly at the pastries on the plate, not wanting to waste them, but really unable to eat them.
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Weisheng, with a fake smile, took Su Yue's arm and entered the room. In front of everyone, he put an engagement ring on Su Yue's finger. This is how strange marriages between big families are. Even though the two people don't like each other, they can still put on an act as if they have been in love for a long time.
"Weisheng!" Xu Chen stepped forward and hugged Zhao Weisheng. Wang Li and Su Yue hugged him back. "Wei-ge notified us a little late, so we didn't have time to prepare gifts. We're sorry, so Lili and I can only give you hugs as gifts."
"Brother Chen, it's good that you could come."
"Xu Chen, long time no see!" Su Yue extended her hand and shook hands with Xu Chen. "How is Liren Pharmaceutical doing in Tianhai?"
"Indeed, to be honest, I didn't expect Ms. Su to be so efficient. You agreed to cooperate so quickly, which caught me off guard when the people from Tianhai came."
"That's also because of you. Weisheng told me that you are also his elder brother."
"Weisheng, it seems I still owe you a debt of gratitude. Thank you."
"No, no, I'm not very capable. I hope Brother Chen will give me some guidance in the future."
"No problem, no problem."
After exchanging pleasantries, Xu Chen took Wang Li to a private car and drove her home.
"Chenchen, did you notice? Zhao Weisheng looked really unwell today." Wang Li sat down on the sofa, took a sip of water, and started gossiping.
"Of course! Who would be happy to get engaged to someone they don't like?"
"Then why is that girl all smiles? She's very pretty and has an outstanding presence. Could it be that she's pursuing Zhao Weisheng?"
"This is the tragedy of big families. That girl is called Su Yue, the eldest granddaughter of the Su family in Jiangnan. She is very rich."
"A tragedy in a wealthy family?" Wang Li shook her head. "Chenchen, luckily we both come from small families, so we don't have so many rules and regulations."
"Lili, you're mistaken. I am the young master of the Tianquan Sect, a powerful family from another world!"
"Young Master Xu, Brother Xu!"
"Oh, what brings you here, beautiful lady?"
"I'm hungry, let's make a midnight snack quickly."
"Yes, ma'am."
The next morning, after dropping Wang Li off at school, Xu Chen headed to the base.
"Old Tang, what happened? They even called me over during class."
"Do I know you? Your memory is exceptionally good. You've already grasped most of it without even having to attend classes."
"Yes, what exactly happened?"
Then, Old Man Tang revealed the whole story: "The last operation showed the various military regions the true strength of martial artists. Special forces instructors from all the military regions across the country are watching the combat footage at the Ministry of National Defense. I couldn't keep it under control any longer, you see..."
"I understand. Let me teach them?"
"Well, please bear with me a little longer. I originally wanted to keep it a secret, but when we're fighting abroad, there's a lot of coordination between different departments, so it's hard to guarantee that no one will find out."
"Aren't they aware of the last time we went to Myanmar to crack down on drug traffickers?" Xu Chen asked.
"They knew, but I brushed it off by saying I'd negotiated with the Burmese government and requested reinforcements." Tang Tiancheng's lie sounded a little unnatural. The formation of the martial arts special forces was entirely his responsibility; he could start and stop whenever he wanted. The reason all the instructors had gathered in Beijing was a little trick he played on Xu Chen, letting Xu Chen know his "difficulties" so Xu Chen would agree more readily.
"Old Tang, call them all over here. Let me explain." Xu Chen's head was buzzing. This official position was really hard to accept; once he took it, a whole bunch of things would come up.
"Okay, they'll be here in half an hour."
Twenty minutes later, several instructors entered the base. Tang Tiancheng introduced their names to Xu Chen one by one and then formally introduced Xu Chen to them.
"Everyone, this is Colonel Xu Chen. Judging from his rank, he is your superior, but he is also a greenhorn. Just call him Xiao Xu."
The instructors looked at the "young" Xu Chen with disbelief.
"Do you think I'm very young?" Xu Chen had just asked when the instructors nodded inappropriately, but then, realizing something was wrong, many of them shook their heads.
"Six, six, good. Form a team of 30 people for training in the capital. After that, you will each lead your soldiers back to your respective military regions to teach martial arts. The number of people should not be too many, no more than 50."
"Senior Colonel, what exactly is this training method?"
"After everyone arrives, you can just observe."
"Colonel, we want to cultivate too!"
"No! The path of martial arts is all about innate talent and physical constitution. You are too old. Of course, it's not impossible to succeed in cultivation at forty or fifty, but you will suffer ten thousand times more than young people. You might even die from the pain during the process. So if you want to cultivate, you can, but you just need to sign a waiver of life and death."
"We'll sign!"
"Alright, go back and inform them. It will begin in a week!"
The following week, Xu Chen returned to school for classes. After all the personnel and supplies arrived, he returned to the base. The military had already informed Peking University, so Xu Chen was not at risk of being expelled.
"A girl??" Xu Chen was a little surprised to see a dark-skinned girl in the queue. His secretary whispered, "Colonel, this... this is the granddaughter of the commander of the Eastern Military Region."
Xu Chen nodded, glanced at the girl a few more times, and was about to give instructions when, unexpectedly, the dark-skinned girl broke away from the group and started arguing with Xu Chen.
