Chapter 23 Immortality?

The night passed, and Xu Chen arrived at school early, finding Wang Li sitting alone in the classroom doing math problems. "Lili, you're here so early?" Wang Li nodded. "I had to be early, Chenchen. I wanted to go to Peking University with you, but my overall score is still a bit uncertain. I need to catch up in math." Xu Chen looked at Wang Li with gratitude, then suddenly remembered something. He turned and left a moment later, carrying soy milk and fried dough sticks into the classroom. He placed them on Wang Li's desk, and she didn't stand on ceremony, picking them up and eating as she looked at a math problem. Xu Chen observed her for a while and then said softly, "Lili, this problem requires auxiliary lines. Here, I'll teach you."

After a while, the students gradually arrived. Many glanced at Xu Chen and Wang Li, who were snuggled together, with envy in their eyes. The bell rang, and the history teacher entered the classroom to begin explaining the recent humanities exam. He then stopped lecturing, scanned the room, and his gaze fell on Xu Chen. He directly asked Xu Chen, "Xu Chen, tell me about the promoters of the Self-Strengthening Movement and what they each did." Xu Chen stood up and answered fluently. The teacher gave Xu Chen an approving look, "Very good, you have a solid grasp of the basics." Then he said to the other students, "Some people don't have good grades, some even have very poor ones, but they sleep in class every day. They don't listen when the teacher tells them to. The college entrance exam is coming up soon. Let's see what happens to those people." The history teacher's words were pointed, and he stopped lecturing. A few students in the back row whispered, "If I had Xu Chen's brain, I wouldn't be afraid of you, you balding middle-aged man." "Exactly, exactly." Xu Chen heard the history teacher's nickname, sat down, looked at the teacher, and smiled inwardly. He really was incredibly smart. Suddenly, he heard a rustling sound of papers next to him. He glanced over and saw Wang Li secretly taking out her math test paper and doing practice problems. Xu Chen whispered, "Lili, listen to the lesson first. I'll teach you how to do the math test paper later." Wang Li glanced at the teacher and found that his attention was focused on explaining the test paper, so she whispered, "I think I understand this problem now using the method you just told me. I feel uneasy if I don't solve it now. Don't worry, I'll listen to the lesson after I finish this problem." Xu Chen simply helped Wang Li finish the problem, while keeping his spiritual sense constantly focused on the history teacher. A few minutes later, seeing Wang Li put away her math test paper and listen to the lesson again, Xu Chen breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason, the more he moved towards becoming an ordinary person, the more awe he felt for the teaching profession.

"Chenchen, why are you so smart, and I'm so stupid?" During recess, Xu Chen and Wang Li were strolling on the playground. Since they became a couple, this had always been their way of interacting. Hearing this, Xu Chen softly replied, "Heaven sent me to make you smarter, you little silly girl." He then gently flicked Wang Li's white nose. Wang Li pinched Xu Chen's waist, "Little Chenchen, you're so naughty, I'm ignoring you." She turned her head away. Xu Chen found it amusing, "Alright, alright, it was my fault, Li Guiren, I know I was wrong." Hearing this, Wang Li reached out and touched Xu Chen's forehead. Xu Chen bent down slightly, "Good boy, little Xu." "Chenchen, have you thought about our future?" Wang Li regained her composure, looking at the playground before her. The college entrance exam was approaching, a time when they faced life's challenges. When making a choice, both men and women have their own worries. Xu Chen held Wang Li's hand, "What you think is what I think. Lili, tell me what you think first?" He looked at Wang Li earnestly. Wang Li's face showed a thoughtful expression, then as if she had imagined something, her pretty face blushed, "I like that kind of ordinary life, working hard together, saving money with you to buy a house and a car, and then... having a few little babies." At the end, Wang Li turned her head away, her cheeks burning. For some reason, even though she was already eighteen, she still felt very shy talking about matters of the heart, as if her heart was about to jump out of her chest. Xu Chen said softly, "What you think is what I will strive for. Believe in ourselves, such good times will come!" Wang Li nodded. Hearing the school bell ring, she quickly pulled Xu Chen and ran towards the classroom.

Suddenly, Xiaobai started talking to Xu Chen in her mind, "Xu Chen, have you really fallen in love with her?" Xu Chen replied, "Yes, Sister Xiaobai." "Don't forget your identity. I've talked to your master about the lifespan of cultivators. With your cultivation level, you should have a lifespan of over three thousand years, right?" Xu Chen was unusually silent. Yes, it's true that I will give Lili a happy and joyful life, but when that time comes, can I bear to watch her die in front of me? Xiaobai continued, "What are you going to do? Break up with her? Or continue to deceive yourself like this?" Xu Chen looked at Wang Li, who was pulling him away, lost in thought.

All day, Xu Chen pondered how to handle the situation he had envisioned. "Should I teach her to cultivate immortality? But Lili doesn't have the aptitude." Xiao Bai then said, "I have a solution, but it's a bit cruel for Wang Li." Xu Chen quickly asked, "Sister Xiao Bai, what solution?" Xiao Bai slowly said, "You should have been to our civilization's planet with your master. What did you discover then?" Xu Chen recalled his travels with the old man in Xiao Bai's civilization, "Spaceships were flying everywhere, and the whole planet was brightly lit." Xiao Bai didn't waste any more words, "Let me put it this way, everyone you saw back then, as long as the energy supply is continuous, is immortal." Hearing this, Xu Chen's expression was incredibly complex. "How is that possible? How did you do that?" Xiaobai continued, "Consciousness transfer means transferring a person's consciousness into a specially designed consciousness-loading machine. The consciousness then drives the machine to act like a normal person, and the energy source is stellar energy received from a Dyson sphere." Xu Chen didn't quite understand the latter part, but he roughly understood the first part. "If what you're saying is true, Sister Xiaobai, does that mean Lili will become a robot?" Xiaobai replied, "Yes, she will become a robot that can theoretically live forever." She then added, "If you decide to use this method, your cultivation level must reach a very high level. Although I don't understand the specifics, you know what your master did to our civilization."

Xu Chen looked at Wang Li, who was listening attentively to the lesson, and said, "No, I won't let you become like that. There should be spiritual herbs on Earth. I will search for them. If I really can't find them, I will go back to Tianquan Star. I must change your aptitude, Lili, so that you can embark on the path of cultivation." Xu Chen's eyes were firm.

That evening, Xu Chen rushed home. In the kitchen, he asked Xu Nan, who was busy cooking, "Sister, do you know which famous mountains and rivers in China are worth visiting?" Xu Nan looked at her brother curiously, but honestly replied, "Kunlun Mountains, Hengduan Mountains, and Qilian Mountains are all quite famous. Chen-di, are you dreaming about life after the college entrance exam?" Xu Chen nodded. "I need to go out and see more of the world, broaden my horizons, and get to know this land for myself." Xu Nan patted Xu Chen's head with her oily hand, encouraging him, "A good man should have ambitions beyond his hometown. I support you in going out and seeing more of the world." Xu Chen touched his hair, his face contorted in pain, "Sister, what are you doing? Ouch!" Then he hurriedly ran to the bathroom.
