Chapter 3: Becoming a High School Student

The next morning, Xu Chen, led by his older sister, arrived at his high school. "Chen-di, come in. Mom has spoken with your teacher." Xu Nan looked at Xu Chen gently, noticing his tall and straight figure. She felt that her brother had changed a lot since he came back, and had become a better person. If it weren't for his male-looking face, she would have even suspected that her brother had been switched at birth. But thankfully, "He's my brother." Xu Nan nudged Xu Chen, and he walked into the school gate. Looking at the lively high school students around him, he felt much younger. Because Xu Chen had caused so much trouble, his sister had been called into the class by the teacher for a talk, so naturally, Xu Chen knew where his class was.

"Hello, is the teacher here?" Xu Chen knocked on the door, pushed it open, and entered the office. Beside the desk was a female teacher about the same age as his "mother." The teacher looked up and said, "Oh, Xu Chen, you're here. Please have a seat." She then took out a stack of materials, including test papers and handouts. Xu Chen glanced at them and took them. "These are the materials you'll need this semester. Next year is the college entrance exam, so study hard. If you don't understand something, I'll help you find the teachers for each subject."

Teacher Li didn't express any expectations for Xu Chen. He left in the first year of high school and came back in the third year; even a miracle couldn't make his grades improve, especially since he was a student who used to cause trouble and didn't study. "Come on, I'll take you to class." Teacher Li led Xu Chen and opened the classroom door. "Teacher Wang, this is Xu Chen. Can I arrange a seat for him?"

Teacher Wang looked at the door with a puzzled expression. The students were buzzing with discussion. "Xu Chen? Didn't he drop out?" "He missed over two years and he's back in class? I wonder what he's thinking." "He looks so handsome. I'll ask for his WeChat later under the pretext of adding him to the class group." Hearing the chatter in the classroom, Xu Chen sat down in the seat the teacher had designated, a hint of excitement in his eyes. "Okay, next, we'll talk about the county system. Class, who proposed the county system?..." The lesson ended with Xu Chen holding his head high, listening attentively. Teacher Wang felt gratified, yet also a little disappointed. "get out of class dismissed!" Xu Chen then wrote his name on all the brand-new textbooks.

Two girls nearby were whispering among themselves as they watched Xu Chen. "Tao Jia, do you know him? I heard you were in the same class as him before the class reshuffling." "I guess I know him. He's a social butterfly, a chuunibyou (middle school syndrome) sufferer, and a fighting maniac. But he seems to have changed a lot today." Tao Jia looked at Xu Chen, a hint of admiration flashing in her eyes. High school girls generally like boys who fall into three categories: those with "legendary" experiences, those with a bad-boy personality, or those with good grades. Of course, the most important prerequisite is that they're handsome. Xu Chen had all three except for his good grades. It's no wonder that Tao Jia, as the class monitor, had a crush on him. Of course, it was just a crush. In Tao Jia's eyes, she might have mustered the courage to date Xu Chen in her first or second year of high school. Senior year was a life-changing stage, so she naturally couldn't focus her energy on romance.

The girl named Wang Li thought for a moment, then resolutely walked towards Xu Chen. "He shouldn't refuse if I ask for his WeChat under the pretext of adding him to the class group," she thought. As she walked, she straightened her school uniform and hair, then sat down at the desk in front of Xu Chen. "Hello, Xu Chen, my name is Wang Li." Wang Li's pretty face flushed slightly as she stared intently at Xu Chen. She didn't quite understand what was wrong with her; she had only decided to ask for his WeChat, but now she was staring at him like a pervert.

This was understandable, of course, Wang Li's fault. Xu Chen had already tried his best to suppress his Daoist aura. As cultivators, everyone possessed a Daoist aura to facilitate affinity with all things in heaven and earth and accelerate the absorption of spiritual energy. "Hello, I'm new here, please guide me," Xu Chen replied with a smile. Wang Li's face instantly turned red, and she stammered, "Okay... I... you can ask me if you don't understand anything." She then fled the scene. From his sister's memories, Xu Chen understood that he had probably been hit on. He smiled, then opened his book and began to memorize quickly. A moment later, Teacher Li came in from outside the classroom. "The PE teacher went home to take care of her child. This class will be English." The students immediately groaned in despair.

In the same liberal arts "rocket class" on the same floor, several girls were also gossiping. "Mu Wan, Xu Chen is back. You're probably going to have a headache again." A hint of helplessness flashed in Mu Wan's eyes. Ever since Xu Chen "targeted" her in the first year of high school, she had felt particularly awkward. She had been scared away by Xu Chen's high-profile confession and had enjoyed more than two years of peace and quiet. Unexpectedly, this guy was back in the third year of high school. Mu Wan decided to go home early in the afternoon. "Wang Tao, Xu Chen is back. Your goddess Mu Wan needs your help." Mu Wan's deskmate and the girl behind her whispered. Wang Tao was shocked when he heard this, and then secretly made up his mind, "Tell Mu Wan not to be afraid of Xu Chen. I... I'll think of a way."

At this moment, Xu Chen was diligently taking notes. Now that he had decided to start a new chapter in his life, he naturally wanted to try to forget his identity as a cultivator and become a true Earth high school student. Teacher Li looked at Xu Chen with great curiosity, "What has he experienced in the past two years? He's like a completely different person."

As school let out in the afternoon, Xu Chen packed his books into his backpack and stepped out of the classroom. A male voice rang in his ear, "Xu Chen, now that you're back... you... should study hard and stop bothering Mu Wan." A thin boy stood in front of him. Xu Chen wondered who this person was, and who Mu Wan was. Xiao Bai then said, "I just took over the school's intranet and found that there is indeed a student named Mu Wan in this school." Xu Chen stared blankly at Wang Tao, his divine sense bursting out and covering the entire school. "Mu Wan, do you think Wang Tao will get beaten up by Xu Chen?" The girl looked at Mu Wan nervously. The two of them were walking towards the school gate. "Tongtong, don't worry about that, let's go home quickly." Mu Wan pulled Tong Yao and hurried out of the school gate.

Xu Chen withdrew his divine sense and looked at Wang Tao. Wang Tao's forehead was covered in cold sweat, and his expression was extremely flustered, as if he was wary of Xu Chen's next move. "Don't worry, I won't bother her anymore." The girl was indeed beautiful; no wonder the skinny boy dared to defy the intimidating aura left by Xu Chen No. 1 to stop him. "Focus on your studies. Nothing is more important than studying." Xu Chen put his hand on Wang Tao's shoulder and then left. Wang Tao was completely bewildered. You, a complete academic failure, want me to focus on my studies?

Unbeknownst to him, Xu Chen observed Mu Wan's expression. When Wang Tao was mentioned, her eyes remained completely unmoved, as if Wang Tao, who had come to stop Xu Chen from harassing her, was a complete stranger to her. "Pathetic," Xu Chen chuckled. Then he went home.
