Chapter 41 The Future

As the night passed, Xu Chen woke up from his sleep, stretching his body in the morning sun as usual. He then took out his phone and texted Wang Li, "Lili, shall we go shopping today?" He then went out for breakfast. Having been on Earth for almost a year, his lifestyle had changed back to that of an ordinary person. He went out in the morning sun, heading to his familiar porridge shop. It was around six o'clock. After finishing his breakfast and paying, Xu Chen checked his WeChat messages. "Lili, that little lazybones, is probably still fast asleep." He smiled, put away his phone, and went for a walk along the riverbank. The sun was already mostly visible. Bathed in the warm sunlight, Xu Chen walked along the riverbank, thinking of the old fisherman he had encountered, and then of the fish. "That fish will probably take a few more years to grow. Once it's ready, I have to make sure Lili eats it," he thought. As he pondered this, a voice rang in his ears, "Xu Chen, what are you doing here?" Xu Chen put down his phone, which he had just shared his location with Wang Li, and turned around to see an unfamiliar face. He asked hesitantly, "Excuse me, who are you?" The boy replied shyly, "I'm Xu Lei." "Hey, you're in the same class as me. I came fishing by the river with my grandpa today." Xu Chen looked down at the riverbank, thinking to himself, "That fisherman's really going all out!" He then said apologetically to Xu Lei, "Sorry, you know I've only been back at school for a little over a semester." Xu Lei said nonchalantly, "I'm used to it. For the past three years, I've been practically invisible. To be honest, I really envy you, Xu Chen. You have such good grades, such a beautiful girlfriend, and a bright future. As for me, even if I give it my all for three years of high school, I'll probably only be able to barely get into a third-tier university, and then I'll have to go back to Xingcheng to work and earn money." Xu Chen patted Xu Lei's shoulder, offering no further words of comfort. Xu Lei's eyes reddened as he spoke, then he wiped them and smiled at Xu Chen, "I'm sorry you had to see this, Xu Chen." Xu Chen shook his head, saying each word carefully, "Since you've tried your best, don't regret it. Maybe you just haven't met your benefactor yet. Don't overthink it; look forward." Xu Lei nodded. "Xu Chen, can we add each other on WeChat?" Xu Chen took out his phone, and the two added each other as friends. He then hurried downstairs to find his grandfather. Did Xu Chen have a benefactor? Yes, if it weren't for Li Qingshan, he probably wouldn't have survived those years as a nominal disciple, because when he first arrived at Tianquan Sect, he was just a child. That's why he said those words to comfort Xu Lei. He turned and left, walking back the way he came, and found Wang Li waiting for him on the street, waving at him. Xu Chen walked over and took Wang Li's hand. "Lili, you were very good today, getting up at seven o'clock." Wang Li smiled smugly. "Hmph, Chenchen, tell me, how are you going to reward me? I want a super-sized milk tea." Xu Chen looked at Wang Li with a smile. "No, I have to reward you with something else, something that will make us both happy." Then, before Wang Li could notice, he quickly and accurately kissed her lips. Wang Li was already used to Xu Chen's advances and responded shyly. After a long while, their lips parted, and Wang Li glared at Xu Chen fiercely. "Pervert Chenchen, hmph." "My wife is just adorable." Xu Chen smiled at the shy Wang Li and pulled her to the milk tea shop.

"Lili, do you think Superman exists in this world?" Xu Chen and Wang Li were drinking milk tea in a bubble tea shop, sitting next to the air conditioner to enjoy the cool breeze. In summer, whenever there was a seat near the air conditioner, the two would always rush to get one. Wang Li took a sip of her extra-large cup of milk tea and thought for a moment. "Yes, I think you, Xiao Chenchen, are Superman." She looked at Xu Chen with tenderness and admiration. If it weren't for Xu Chen's help, how could she have gone to Peking University? Xu Chen was her Superman in life. Xu Chen smiled slightly, "Lili, Superman brother has something to tell you." Wang Li asked curiously, "What is it, Xu Chen?" Xu Chen walked to her side and whispered in her ear, "I will be your Superman for life." Feeling Xu Chen's warmth and the teasing in his words, Wang Li's pretty face flushed slightly. Then, as if she had thought of something, she said to Xu Chen, "We're about to enter university, and it won't be long before we enter society. Chenchen, is there anything you want to do?" Xu Chen carefully recalled his goals. First and foremost, of course, was to reach the Nascent Soul stage, followed by doing more for Wang Li. Searching for some rare herbs, if not on Earth, then searching the endless universe, even returning to Tianquan Star. So, he slowly said to Wang Li, "Lili, what do you think about me becoming a travel blogger? I want to experience more of China's scenery, meet more people, and see more of life." Upon hearing this, Wang Li's expression changed. "Chenchen, I don't want you to do that. I want us to work together, live together, and strive together." Seeing Wang Li's changed expression, Xu Chen stopped talking about his grand plans. Becoming a travel blogger was just a casual remark. To find rare herbs, he had many, many other options; he could even ask Xiaobai for help. "Become a teacher, take the civil service exam? Go into business? Lili, what's your choice?" Xu Chen changed the subject, throwing the question at Wang Li. Yes, he was going to live with Wang Li for the rest of his life. Before he was ready to reveal his identity to her and help her embark on the path of cultivation, he needed to plan his future carefully. At least until then, he wanted to be able to live happily with Lili. Xu Chen thought of the fish. It should be soon. In a few more years, Lili would be able to change her physique through this fish. Upon hearing this, Wang Li felt somewhat uneasy. She said meaningfully, "I want to be a teacher in Beijing, or go back to Xingcheng and teach at one of the four top universities." Xu Chen immediately took Wang Li's hand, "Live each day to the fullest, and happiness will come as promised. Lili, don't think too much, just be happy." Wang Li nodded, and seeing that Xu Chen had finished his milk tea, while she still had more than half of her extra-large cup left, she immediately handed the milk tea to Xu Chen and said coquettishly, "Chenchen, I can't drink anymore." Xu Chen patted her head, "I really can't do anything with you." Then he took the milk tea and helped her finish it.

"This kind of life is so peaceful and comfortable, unlike the decades of monotonous seclusion I used to endure." Xu Chen thought to himself as he walked with Wang Li. A moment later, Wang Li's phone rang. She answered it and, after hanging up, said to Xu Chen, "Chenchen, I have to pick up Xiaozhi later. I guess I'll be a mom again today." Speaking of her younger sister, who was more than ten years younger than her, Wang Li felt both love and helplessness. Her parents were busy with work, and her grandparents and maternal grandparents lived in the countryside, so she mostly took care of her sister. Xu Chen said softly, "Then I'll go with you. Let's take Xiaozhi to play in the city today." Wang Li nodded, and the two took a taxi and left.
