Chapter 36

Chapter 36

These four words.

Like a fuse.

The previously ambiguous atmosphere in the room was instantly ignited, and a group of people started making strange noises.

I've discovered that Wu Qi really has a knack for creating atmosphere.

It easily changed the wind direction by 180 degrees.

Xu Feng excitedly grabbed a cushion from the sofa and covered his face, trying to suppress his screams; Tian Qingqing didn't react much, but her face was already flushed, and she picked up her phone to share it with some gossip group.

Li Guangheng's shouts were particularly grotesque.

I clearly heard his game teammate ask in surprise through the loudspeaker, "Who's slaughtering a pig?"

Meng Xiaoqiong, on the other hand, remained calm and composed, putting down her phone and saying, "So Wu Qi is really surprised by this answer, seeing that our A-Yue is almost drooling?"

Li Guangheng was extremely blunt: "Yes, yes, you were the calmest. After you heard that, you flashed into the enemy tower and used your ultimate on the minions. Before the enemy jungler even arrived, you had already taken care of yourself. If you keep saying you're calm, I'm really going to report you for putting on a show."

Meng Xiaoqiong: "..."

The game ended swiftly due to this unexpected event, resulting in a defeat.

A few people suddenly gathered around, gossiping all at once.

"How did they kiss?"

"How else could they kiss? Of course, Qi-ge took the initiative! You can figure out the rest yourself. Yue-jie was half-hearted, and Qi-ge played along, and it was all over in one go, *slap*!"

...Fuck your sister.

I was about to curse when Wu Qi grabbed a holiday homework book from the side and hit the other person on the head, saying, "Get out of here and slap him, how can you be so perverted?"

Just as Li Guangheng was about to retort, an untimely phone call rang.

“How is that lewd… I described it so beautifully.” Li Guangheng looked aggrieved, then picked up his phone, “I’m going to take this call in a bit—hello.”

Wu Qi leaned closer and asked me in a low voice, so that only the two of us could hear, "Is this how the word 'aesthetic' is used?"

I replied dismissively, "Anyway, it sounds better than 'sleazy'."

Wu Qi persisted: "Anyway, on that day—the fireworks were dazzling, and every house was lit up. The word 'beautiful' is too petty; 'brilliant' is what's truly grand."

I looked up at him. How could someone say something sarcastic without batting an eye?

"It makes you seem to have a high level of literary skill."

Wu Qi, whose skin was clearly even thicker, was about to continue speaking when a roar suddenly came from the other side.

"—You only got 47 points in Chinese? You couldn't have copied the reading comprehension passages from the essay, could you? Did you switch your brain during the exam?"

The room, which had been filled with whispers, fell silent instantly. It was as if a long, narrow face had suddenly appeared at the classroom door; everyone was too afraid to move, and even Wu Qi was stunned and forgot what he was going to say.

Li Guangheng silently moved his phone away, afraid that the person on the other end of the phone would jump out and hit him.

"I'm giving you ten minutes to get back here right now!"

The phone beeped and then hung up.

Li Guangheng looked up with a mournful face, only to find himself surrounded by sympathetic glances.

Wu Qi withdrew his gaze and couldn't help but tease, "The one with good literary skills is right here."

I:"……"

Li Guangheng looked like he didn't want to live anymore and asked me, "Sister Yue, is it okay if I stay here until school starts?"

Although I really wanted to help, I held back.

"Gods don't care about family matters," I said coldly. "If they don't feed you, you probably won't even live to see the start of the school year."

Li Guangheng: "..."

The brief moment of pleasure made people forget about the final exams. This phone call not only brought Li Guangheng back to reality, but also made everyone else feel very involved, and they began to fall silent.

Few students in the class achieve grades that satisfy parents. With Yu Yuan absent, no one in this room can go home smiling.

Meng Xiaoqiong's phone ran out of battery, so she shook her hand and said, "I've had enough, I'm going home too."

Li Guangheng sighed, "What's coming will come. Xiao Qiong, do you think I'll be beaten to death?"

Meng Xiaoqiong pinched her brow: "My phone can ring anytime. Call me if you're really about to die."

"Will you collect my body?" Li Guangheng didn't believe she was that kind.

Meng Xiaoqiong: "I won't answer."

Li Guangheng: "?"

Meng Xiaoqiong: "Let me show you the despair of facing death."

Li Guangheng: "Damn it!"

The others were amused, and the atmosphere gradually warmed up.

However, no one was in the mood to continue playing. Xu Feng got up to leave, thinking about his embarrassing grades, and muttered, "What's meant to happen will happen, there's no escaping it."

At an age when young people are arrogant and think they can look down on everyone, they will always be dampened by a test result.

People left one by one, all with a forced smile on their faces.

Before leaving, Tian Qingqing suddenly asked me, "A-Yue, were you always the 'other people's child' in the eyes of parents?"

"ah?"

I was stunned for a moment, not understanding the metaphor.

Tian Qingqing seemed to notice my confusion, smiled awkwardly, and explained, "I really envy you. I feel like you've always been the kind of honest, obedient, and perfect child since you were little."

I looked at her, completely bewildered.

Wu Qi then stepped in to defuse the situation, saying, "It's amazing that you came up with those three words to tease her; she doesn't fit any of them at all."

Tian Qingqing laughed and retorted, "At least I won't get scolded when I get home after the exam, right?"

Wu Qi chimed in, "Who dares to say anything about her?"

After everyone left, I closed the door and came to my senses. I turned around and questioned Wu Qi, "What do you mean by not even a single one?"

"Are you very honest?" Wu Qi asked.

"Not being honest?" I retorted.

"Why did that honest man drug me back then?!"

"Shut up."

Wu Qi spoke very bluntly, which made me furious. I quickly covered his mouth, afraid that those people would smell the gossip and come back to continue gossiping.

Wu Qi's eyebrows curved into a smile as he gently placed his hand over mine, his fingertips pressing against my knuckles and pulling it down a little to reveal his lips and teeth.

He added, "You don't obey either."

Two of the three words were easily debunked.

I am neither honest nor obedient; I am the most imperfect child.

I am self-aware.

Wu Qi turned around and made a hand gesture, and several small copper coins jumped out from between his fingers.

Copper coins served as heads, and gold thread was wrapped around them to form bodies, creating several lifelike little copper coin figures.

The little copper coin man jumped off Wu Qi and began tidying up the messy room on his own, as if he were consciously doing so.

My attention was diverted as I watched the little copper coins bouncing around.

Perhaps because their heads are too big, they walk unsteadily, swaying from side to side. They also try their best to imitate human movements, jumping from the coffee table to the sofa and striking a standing long jump pose. It takes two small copper coin figures to carry a single deck of cards back.

Even when he's busy and tired, he wipes away his sweat.

Wow.

Who taught you?

A little copper coin figure lost his footing by the coffee table and fell off, clinging tightly to the corner of the table to keep himself from falling.

Seeing how hard it was struggling, I handed it a red thread and helped it back onto the table.

"When did you figure out this feature?"

I looked up and asked Wu Qi.

Wu Qi's gaze lingered on me for what seemed like an eternity before finally turning away at my question. He said, "Is this all the skill I have left in the mortal realm? How can I please you without diversifying my abilities?"

I rolled my eyes at him: "If you're so capable, go and do some useless research."

Wu Qi lifted my hand, revealing a red thread trailing on it. As if the evidence were irrefutable, he forced a smile: "You're not much better off."

"..."

Back when I was in heaven, I was quite rebellious. Usually, if one person committed a crime, the other person would also be implicated, either by coming up with bad ideas or by devising wicked schemes.

However, I rebelled in the shadows, while Wu Qi betrayed us in the open.

Looking at it this way, Wu Qi is the one who lives a bright and honest life, and is consistent inside and out.

He's incredibly arrogant and flamboyant, both in public and in private.

After the table was almost tidied up, Wu Qi leaned against the entryway and asked me, "How are you going to spend your holiday?"

"It's almost the end of the year, and I'm already having a headache thinking about all the things I'll have to deal with. Even though I've been demoted, I can't just stop working."

“Don’t take it too seriously,” Wu Qi said. “You really think you’re some kind of superhero.”

I replied, "Even if I'm not responsible, I still need to earn some extra money for the second half of the year."

Wu Qi laughed even more arrogantly: "Hey."

I:"?"

Wu Qi: "The God of Wealth is already in a good position, why would you need to work hard?"

I:"……"

I can never win an argument with him, so I just snapped, "Don't abuse your power."

"I abused my power?" Wu Qi walked to my side, gently put his arm around my shoulder, and circled around me, just enough to show me the red line.

The divine objects in the heavens are much more exquisitely crafted than those on earth.

The cord was neatly wound, with a smooth texture, and upon closer inspection, subtle patterns could be seen. Sunlight streamed in through the window, causing the red cord to shimmer with an unusual glow.

Since that New Year's Eve, Wu Qi's long-dormant irrationality has finally begun to surface.

“If you’re so capable, come with me to the Heavenly Court to find the Heavenly Emperor. With this red rope, let’s see who’s abusing their power,” he said.

...

All right.

Given the Heavenly Emperor's unreasonable nature, and with Wu Qi adding fuel to the fire, he'll probably insist that I shamelessly entangled the red rope onto Wu Qi.

Unable to refute, I could only get to the point: "So what good plans does the God of Wealth have?"

Wu Qi lifted a strand of my hair, twirled it around his fingertip, and the end of the hair occasionally brushed against my cheek, causing a ticklish sensation.

“Coming to the mortal world only to study hard and not to travel and enjoy the scenery is too boring,” he said slowly. “Ah Yue, winter is more than halfway over, and the snow has fallen deep enough.”

I blinked.

I don't understand.

Wu Qi said, "Let's go skiing."

Those eyes were dark and bright, gentle and serene; I became the only ripple in his eyes.

I looked away.

I remembered what Tian Qingqing said today.

"I feel that you have always been the kind of honest, obedient, and perfect child since you were little."

I am not.

I was the most rebellious and conflicted kid.

It was because someone appeared who untied my knot and appreciated my rebelliousness.

All my imperfections have been pieced together into the shape of a heart, beating rapidly within my body, forever captivated by it.
